Scientific literacy and critical thinking skill are the considerable 21st century competencies must be owned by nowadays students. This study aimed at determining the correlation among three variables i.e. critical thinking skill, motivation, and scientific literacy possessed by high school students. The research used a quantitative approach to explore the correlation among variables observed. The total sample were 124 of X MIPA graders selected using the simple random sampling technique. The data collection was carried out by providing test instruments to measure students’ critical thinking skill, motivation, and scientific literacy. The all variables then were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that (1) there was a positive correlation between the critical thinking skill and scientific literacy (11.83%), (2) there was no significant correlation between motivation and scientific literacy, and (3) the both predictors (i.e. critical thinking skill and motivation) were able to predict the criterion (scientific literacy) (22.56%). It is suggested to optimize students’ critical thinking skill and motivation to sharpen students’ scientific literacy.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND SCIENTIFIC  LITERACY OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN EAST JAKARTA AbstractPISA in 2012 and 2015 shows the level of scientific literacy skills of Indonesian students is at a low level. One of the factors that influence the literacy ability of a person is the ability to think critically. The research aims to determine the relationship between critical thinking skills and high school students' scientific literacy in East Jakarta. The study was conducted in four state high schools in East Jakarta. A total of 167 students were taken as samples chosen by simple random sampling. The method used is descriptive with correlational studies. The average value of critical thinking skills is 45 in the category of lace. The level of scientific literacy of students is at level 3, which has been able to identify a scientific problem described clearly in the context of the level of science. The correlation coefficient obtained was 0.45, with a coefficient of determination of 0.199 and a simple regression model. Ŷ = 0.66 + 2.39X. This study concludes that there is a positive relationship between critical thinking skills and scientific literacy, where critical thinking skills contribute 19.9% to scientific literacy. AbstrakPISA tahun 2012 dan 2015 memperlihatkan kemampuan literasi sains anak Indonesia berada pada taraf rendah. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan literasi seorang adalah kemampuan berpikir kritis yang dimilikinya. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan literasi sains siswa SMA di Jakarta Timur. Penelitian dilaksanakan di empat SMA Negeri di Jakarta  Timur. Sebanyak 167 siswa diambil sebagai sampel yang dipilih secara simple random sampling. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan studi korelasional. Rata-rata nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis sebesar 45 berkategori rendah. Level literasi sains siswa berada pada level 3, yaitu sudah mampu mengidentifikasi permasalahan ilmiah yang dideskripsikan dengan jelas pada tingkat konteks sains. Koefisien korelasi yang didapatkan sebesar 0,45 dengan koefisien determinasi sebesar 0,199 dan model regresi sederhana. Ŷ = 0,66 + 2,39X. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan antara kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan literasi sains, dimana kemampuan berpikir kritis memberikan kontribusi sebesar 19,9% terhadap literasi sains.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keefektifan model pembelajaran Realistik dalam Seting Kooperatif (RESIK) ditinjau dari sikap terhadap matematika, motivasi belajar matematika, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa SMP. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu dengan pretest-postest non equivalent group design. Penelitian ini menggunakan satu kelompok eksperimen dan satu kelompok kontrol. Populasi penelitian mencakup seluruh siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Selong, Kabupaten Lombok Timur, NTB yang terdiri dari 6 kelas. Untuk menguji keefektifan model pembelajaran RESIK dan model konvensional ditinjau dari masing-masing aspek yaitu sikap terhadap matematika, motivasi belajar matematika, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis digunakan analisis one sample t-test pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Selanjutnya untuk membandingkan keefektifan model pembelajaran RESIK dan model konvensional ditinjau dari aspek sikap terhadap matematika, motivasi  belajar matematika, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji T2 Hotteling dengan taraf signifikansi 5%, dan uji-t univariat untuk menentukan model manakah yang lebih efektif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran RESIK efektif ditinjau dari sikap terhadap matematika, motivasi belajar matematika, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa. Model pembelajaran RESIK lebih efektif daripada model konvensional ditinjau dari sikap terhadap matematika, motivasi belajar matematika, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis.Kata Kunci: realistik, kooperatif, RESIK The effectiveness of the realistic model in cooperative setting in terms of the attitude, motivation, and mathematical critical thinking skill of junior high school students AbstractThis research aimed to describe the effectiveness of the realistic model in cooperative setting (RESIK model) in terms of the attitude, motivation, and mathematical critical thinking skill of junior high school students. This research was a quasi experimental study using pretest-posttest non equivalent group design. In this study, two experimental groups were used. Population of research covered the whole number of six classes of grade VII student of SMPN 1 Selong, Lombok Timur, NTB. There were three different tests used to examine the data. One sample t-test at a significance level of 5% was used to examine the effectiveness of learning using RESIK model and conventional approach in terms of the aspect of students’ attitude toward mathematics, mathematics learning motivation, and mathematical critical thinking skill. Then the data was analyzed using T2 Hotteling test at significance level of 5% to compare the effectiveness of RESIK model and conventional approach, and the last test was by using t-univariat test to determine which approach was more effective. The result indicates that both RESIK model and conventional approach in learning mathematics were effective in terms of the aspect of students’ attitude toward mathematics, mathematics learning motivation, and mathematical critical thinking skill at grade VII of SMPN 1 Selong. RESIK model more effective than conventional model in terms of the aspect of students’ attitude toward mathematics, mathematics learning motivation, and mathematical critical thinking skill.Keywords: realistic, cooperative, RESIK

This study aims to determine the profile of students' literacy skills in one of the private high schools in Karanganyar. This study uses a survey method. The study population was all high school students of class X, XI, and XII MIA. The sampling technique uses stratified proportional random sampling with a total sample of 45 students. Science literacy skills are measured using the 2015 Program for International Student (PISA) test with indicators developed by Gormally. The results showed that in general, the average value of students' scientific literacy skills was 52.22% in the deficient category. The results of each indicator of scientific literacy skills are as follows: (1) scientific opinion identification skills of 55.56% in the low category, (2) effective literature search of 48.89% in the very low category, (3) understanding the research design elements amounted to 37.78% in the very low category, (4) charted 57.78% in the low category, (5) solved the problem with quantitative skills of 53.33% in the very low category, (6) interpreted the statistics the base is 60.00% in the medium category, (7) inference, prediction and conclusion drawing 62.23% in the medium category.

This study was designed to examine the possible constraints that can affect high school students’ mathematics performance in five selected high schools in Awi-zone and west Gojam. Observations and reports from examining bodies revealed that a high percentage of secondary school students continue to perform poorly in mathematics examinations. From a total of nine high schools, five were selected using simple random sampling technique. The respective sections were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Four sections were selected from each school. Then, two hundred samples of students were employed using comprehensive sampling technique. To obtain data, questionnaire, classroom observation, and semi-structured interviews were used. Fifty students from each school were selected using simple random sampling technique for the questionnaire. Similarly, three teachers from each of the sample school were selected using simple random sampling technique for the questionnaire, classroom observation and interview. The quantitative data were analyzed using one sample t- test whereas the qualitative one was analyzed using descriptive interpretations. The findings showed that students have laid claim on the problem of scoring passing mark as a result of poor mathematics performance. In addition, the result indicates that teachers possess the theories and their application of indirect instruction, organizing mathematics lessons, classroom management using assessment techniques. The findings also implied that there are opportunities to improve students’ performance in mathematics in the high schools to the expected level. Furthermore, the findings showed that paraphrasing math word problems improves performance of some students. In relation to the findings of the study, recommendations are forwarded.

ABSTRACTThis study examines how strong internet' influence is regarding to intensity and appeal of the message to the attitudes of senior high school students in relation to cyberbullying. Reflecting on some cases abroad and also in Indonesia, can be assumed that the phenomenon of bullying is able to affect the attitudes of students who are searching for their identity related to their beliefs, life meaning, and life purpose. This study uses explanatory survey with a target population of high school’s students in the city of Medan. Sampling technique using simple random sampling with proportional allocation. The research shows that there is linier relation between cyberbullying and students behaviour in Medan.Keywords: cyberbullying, teenager, behaviour ABSTRAKPenelitian ini mengkaji seberapa besar pengaruh internet menyangkut intensitas dan daya tarik pesannya terhadap sikap pelajar SMA dalam kaitannya dengan cyberbullying. Bercermin pada beberapa kasus-kasus di luar negeri dan juga dalam negeri dapat diasumsikan bahwa fenomena bullying dapat mempengaruhi sikap pelajar yang sedang mencari identitas diri yang berkaitan dengan keyakinan, pencarian makna kehidupan, dan tujuan hidup. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survey eksplanatori dengan populasi sasaran pelajar SMA Negeri di Kota Medan. Penarikan sampel dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling dengan alokasi proporsional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan yang linier antara cyberbullying dan sikap remaja di kota Medan.Kata kunci: cyberbullying, remaja, perilaku

This study aimed to investigate impact the science process skill-based learning on critical thinking skills of Junior High School students. Subjects were eighth grade students of Rengel Junior High School 1 that were selected by purposive random sampling. Measurement data by means of science process skills test and critical thinking skill test was analyzed by using inferential statistical one-tailed t-test and linear regression. The results showed that implementation of science process skill-based learning was effective to improve the critical thinking skill of Junior High School student

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach has become an interesting research object. Several studies have proven that the STEM approach has overcome various learning problems. It involves many teaching and learning aspects, either the cognitive, affective, or psychomotor domains, positively affecting the students' learning outcomes. This study aimed to describe the effect of the STEM approach with the Brainstorming method on critical thinking and creative thinking skills of students in physics learning. This study employed quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group design. The sampling was done through the simple random sampling technique with a total sample of 60 high school students. The instrument used in this study was an essay test instrument to measure critical thinking and creative thinking skills. The Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used as the research hypothesis testing technique. The results showed that the significance score of critical thinking skills was 0.001, and the significance score of creative thinking skills was 0.019. So, it can be concluded that the application of the STEM approach with the Brainstorming method is effective in improving students' critical thinking and creative thinking skills in learning physics, both through multivariate tests and separate tests.

This research is aimed at identifying the level of resilience of high school students post-disaster in West Sumatera. This research is descriptive quantitative, with the total sample of 1143 students by using simple random sampling technique. The instrument used is TIRI. The data are analyzed descriptively with the analysis of the level of resilience in percentage, using SPSS version 20.00. The Result of the research reveals that the condition of the students’ resilience is high. The result showed that in general male students are at high category and female students are also at high categoryn of resilience, still there are significant differences of the students’ resilience based on gender. The research suggests more efforts are needed to improve the condition of the students’ resilience on certain aspects to be more optimal.

This Mathematics critical thinking skill is one of the components a student must possess. This skill will assist them to be able to make the right decision. In fact, however, not many of them having a high of critical thinking skill. It causes them to be lack of skills in completing the mathematics cases. This research aims to: (1) describe the critical thinking skills of junior high school students in solving mathematical problems and (2) identify the students' critical thinking components in the focus, reason, inference, situation, clarity, dan overview. This was descriptive research with a qualitative approach. This research involved 32 subjects comprising 15 male students and 17 female students. The method used in this research is test, interview, and triangulation. The test used in this research consisted of 6 problems representing 6 sub-skills of critical thinking skills. The results of data collection were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that: (1) the critical thinking skills of junior high school students were in a low category; (2) overview became the lowest critical thinking sub-skills mastered by the students compared to other critical thinking sub-skills
