The paper considers methods for manufacturing polymer-matrix samples for the determination of mechanical properties outlining the basic approach to the development of modes for pouring and curing of polymer blocks. Samples were made of cured adhesive binders VSK-50, VSK-14-2m, VSK-14-2mR, VSK-14-2mRm, and tests were carried out to determine the following characteristics: tensile and flexural strength, elongation, tensile modulus when stretching and bending.

Fumed silica particles (SiO2) were directly added into poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) by melt mixing process. The effects of amount of fumed silica particles on mechanical properties of PBS/fumed silica composites, those are tensile strength, tensile modulus, impact strength as well as flexural strength, were investigated. It was found that the mechanical properties decreased with increasing fumed silica loading (0-3 wt%). In order to increase polymer-filler interaction, fumed silica was treated with 3-glycidyloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPMS), and its structure was analyzed by FT-IR spectrophotometry. The PBS/modified was found to possess better tensile strength, tensile modulus, impact strength and flexural strength that those of PBS/fumed silica composites.

Polymer matrix composites made from phenolic resin are filled with natural graphite powders. They are fabricated by compression molding technique. The density, electrical conductivity and flexural strength of composite are analyzed to determine the influences of mould pressure and mould pressing time on the physical, electrical and mechanical properties of composite. It is found that the density, electrical conductivity and flexural strength of composites increased with increasing mould pressure. Under pressure of 40 MPa for 60 min, the density, electrical conductivity and flexural strength of composites were 1.85 g/cm3, 4.35  103 S/cm and 70 MPa, respectively. The decreased gaps could be the main reason for the increasing of density, electrical conductivity and flexural strength as mould pressure increases. The results also show that the density of composites increased with increasing mould pressing time.

The results of the studies of the effect of excipients of mineral and organic origin on the mechanical properties of polyether sulfone based on 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl and 4,4'-dichlordiphenylsulfone are adduced. It has been shown that the introduction of hard fillers is accompanied by the increased modulus and reduced ductility of the polymer matrix, the intensity of these effects depends on the concentration, shape and particle size additives. It was revealed that the composites with talc and discrete carbon fibers were characterized by higher mechanical properties. Their test as materials for FDM 3D printing method shows the highest suitability composites with talc for this technology.

The objective of this study is to enhance the thermal and mechanical properties of the photosensitive resin for RP (Rapid Prototyping) modifying with TiO2 nanoparticles NPs. The coupling agent KH570 was chosen for treating the surface of TiO2 NPs. The influence of the TiO2 content on the viscosity and the curing depth of photosensitive resin were analyzed in this study. We also tested the mechanical properties such as tensile modulus, tensile strength, hardness and flexural strength. Using differential scanning calorimetry, we tested the thermal stability of the modified photosensitive resin. Modified photosensitive resin's comprehensive performance was really good when the content of TiO2 was at 0.25%, the increase in tensile strength from 24.3 to 46.9 MPa was noticed to be 89%, the increase in tensile modulus from 1990 to 2251 MPa was noticed to be 18%, the increase in hardness and flexural strength was noticed to be 5 and 6%, respectively. Moreover, the heat stability and plasticity of the modified photosensitive resin are also enhanced. This paper gives a cost-efficient method of improving the functioning of photosensitive resin for RP.

In this article, the mechanical properties of biaxial and triaxial woven aramid fabric and respective reinforced composites were investigated. Both fabrics had the same mass/m2. The first part of the experimental investigation was focused on the mechanical properties of different non-laminated aramid fabrics (biaxial and triaxial). The second part was concerned with the mechanical properties of composites made of a different combination of layers of fabric reinforced with an epoxy resin matrix in the order of biaxial+biaxial, trixial+triaxial and biaxial+triaxial. The composites were tested for tensile strength, flexural strength, strain and Young’s and flexural modulus. It can be seen from the results that the density and direction of the yarns are the most important parameters for determination of the strength of the fabric reinforced composite. The biaxial composite clearly showed better tensile strength, while the bi-tri axial order showed good flexural strength compared to the other composite combinations. These fabric reinforced composites have suitable applications in the areas of medical, protection and in the automotive industries.
