The study explored the teachers teaching strategies in six high achieving schools in Banda Aceh. One main purpose of the study was to explore particular strategies teachers use in conducting teaching effectively. The study was approached using the qualitative classroom research. The settings of the study were six high achieving secondary schools in Banda Aceh. The data of the study were collected through in-depth semi-structured Interview, observation and also focus group discussion. The data which was analysed using coding techniques reveals that most teachers interviewed suggested that they feel teaching at schools was at ease, and this due to mostly their extensive teaching experiences, trainings and Students’ learning passion.

This thesis investigates early childhood teachers' perspectives of how they support children's scientific learning, and how they felt about the way they supported that learning, within one childcare centre setting. Using a qualitative case study approach the views of the six participants teaching at the research site were gathered during initial individual interviews. Participants were then asked to document situations where they noticed and recognised children engaged in scientific learning. In a second interview participants talked about the documentation they had gathered and what responses they had to what they had seen, if any. The interview data and participant documentation was then coded and collated into a matrix form in order to use the initial findings as the basis for a focus group discussion involving all participants. The transcript of the focus group discussion was then added to the initial findings and subsequently considered in light of Rogoff's (2003) three analytical foci (the personal, interpersonal and cultural-institutional). This enabled a broad spectrum of ideas to emerge and served to highlight several teaching strategies.Three key findings emerged from the data. The first, a unique contribution of this study, highlights specific teaching strategies relating to the interdependent nature of team teaching relationships. The dialogue that developed between participants during the research emerged as a significant teaching support. The way the participants drew on each other's expertise, knowledge, experiences, and physical support was noticeable and often contributed to an individual participant's learning and increased confidence. On an individual level, the second finding concerned how capable and competent the individual participants felt about their support of children's scientific learning was related to their view of what 'science' is, and the role they thought the teacher should play in science education. This emphasises the importance of teachers having subject knowledge and a solid understanding of the nature of science (NOS). Furthermore, in this study the complexity of increasing the effectiveness of the support that early childhood teachers provide for children's scientific learning was revealed as the third finding. The influence of participants' confidence in and attitudes toward supporting children's scientific learning is further complicated when considering them in relation to the role of the teacher's understanding of NOS. Both of these factors have implications for the difference in teachers' available knowledge, skills and resources, and their inclination to use them. This thesis argues that there is no one solution to encouraging teachers to engage in more effective scientific learning support. However, reflective practice can enable teachers to develop their understanding of what science is and a pedagogy that will support the children's scientific learning, as well as increasing their confidence in and willingness to expand their scientific subject knowledge base. In addition, it also contends that collective teaching strategies are a significant factor in early childhood teachers' abilities to notice, recognise and respond to children engaged in scientific learning and as such need further consideration in teacher education, policy making decisions, and future research.

This participatory action research aims to (1) construct a classroom research development model for Thai tertiary lecturers in the three southern border provinces and (2) evaluate their classroom research performance. Through voluntary participation, the target group comprises 40 lecturers in Thailand, specifically from Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus; Yala Rajabhat University; Princess of Naradhiwas University; Fatoni University; and Boromarajonani College of Nursing Yala. In-depth interviews were conducted with two university administrators, and a focus group discussion was held for 12 participants, including lecturer representatives and the researchers. Initial data on suggestions were collected to construct a draft classroom research development model which was subsequently assessed for quality by three purposively sampled experts. The selection criteria for these experts included having a research background in Education or having conducted at least three research titles on classroom research. The instruments were an in-depth interview form, a focus group discussion form, a model quality assessment, a self-assessment form, and a learning log. The data were analysed with content analysis and descriptive statistics.

This study is aimed to investigate the mechanism of abroad apprenticeship labour program, including income rate, to understand the process of transferring knowledge, and to portray its implementation to regional development. There are at least three aspects will be discussed, firstly, to understand the process of apprenticeship overseas; secondly, to evaluate their income and economic activities after returning home; and thirdly, to evaluate how the local government involves in empowering ex-apprentice labour overseas. The research employed several methods for getting data such as structured interview by using questionnaire, focus group discussion, in-depth interview, tracking, and observation. This study indicated that (I) Apprenticeship process mechanism is not fully transparent yet; (2) Their income are relatively high, however, looking at their job they are still absorbed in 3D jobs (dirty, dangerous, difficult); (3) Several arising problems set the volunteer in low bidding position, and (4) process of transferring knowledge they got from overseas is vague.

The trend of enrolment in private schools is growing rapidly. The criteria of quality for teacher candidates is complex one, great value is placed for oral interviews along with other formal techniques of selection process. The present study focused to investigate the desired and observed levels of qualities for teacher candidates perceived by their employers at private educational institutions in Pakistan. Interviews of personnel involved in selection process, a focus group discussion and a survey were used as the research method. After semi-structured interview with 20 employers the initial three levels of dimensions of qualities for teacher candidates i.e. dimensions of educational and professional knowledge; dimensions of teaching and professional skills; and dimensions of values and attitudes were developed and kept for focus group discussion. In this way six qualities for each dimension were finalized and the survey was conducted to rate the desired and observed levels of 18 items. A total number of 139 responses were available through this survey. The mean of desired and observed responses for each item was calculated. The difference between means, standard deviations and t-values were also calculated. The differences in mean values for desired and observed levels for all three categories indicate that employers of private schools are not satisfied with the output of teachers training programs.

The performance of three Irrigation System (IS); Arva Ghari, Tirkang Kimbesi and Hemja Sinchai Pranali was assessed using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and structured interview. The IS situated in the Kaski district were managed by users committee which were mainly formed by the election. The water availability is sufficient in upstream and decreases towards downstream leading to tail end deprivation, however, there was no dominance of influential person in water allocation. Proper distribution system minimizes the conflict among the users which depends on the condition of the canal along with regulating structures. The deposits of silt on bed and vegetation on banks have reduced the discharge capacity which needs the regular maintenance for the better performance of the IS. Separate fund should be raised for the repair and maintenance of canal. FMIS should be supported to strengthen its capacity as these are yet to be institutionalized and genuine farmers should be encouraged to participate for the management of the IS.
