Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang proses digitisasi dan print-out citra radiografi karsinoma nasofaring luaran suatu perangkat simulator di RS. DR.Sardjito. Proses digitisasi dilakukan menggunakan sistem frame grabber yang dikembangkan oleh Laboratorium Fisika Citra FMIPA UGM yang terhubung dengan sistem radiografi fluoroskopi. Setelah diperoleh 20 citra untuk sekali proses paparan radiasi, dilakukan proses normalisasi dan proses kalkulasi citra. Proses analisis terhadap citra hasil meliputi analisis visual, histogram, dan profil garis yang dilakukan menggunakan software New Image Analyzer 2007. Untuk kepentingan dokumentasi permanen, citra di-print-out. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, operasi add dapat memberikan kualitas visual citra terbaik, sebagaimana tampak di layar monitor maupun setelah di-print-out. Kualitas citra hasil print-out relatif tetap sepanjang spesifikasi printer yang digunakan sesuai.   Kata kunci: Digitisasi, Print-out, Frame Grabber, Radiografi Fluoroskopi, Karsinoma Nasofaring

Increased nuclear size, resulting in an increase in the relative proportion of nuclear to cytoplasmic sizes, is an important morphologic criterion for the evaluation of neoplastic and pre-neoplastic cells. This paper describes investigations into the suitability of automated image analysis for quantitating changes in nuclear and cytoplasmic cross-sectional areas in exfoliated cells from tracheas treated with carcinogen.Neoplastic and pre-neoplastic lesions were induced in the tracheas of Syrian hamsters with the carcinogen N-methyl-N-nitrosourea. Cytology samples were collected intra-tracheally with a specially designed catheter (1) and stained by a modified Papanicolaou technique. Three cytology specimens were selected from animals with normal tracheas, 3 from animals with dysplastic changes, and 3 from animals with epidermoid carcinoma. One hundred randomly selected cells on each slide were analyzed with a Bausch and Lomb Pattern Analysis System automated image analyzer.

The geometric structure of pore space in some carbonate rocks can be correlated with petrophysical measurements by quantitatively analyzing binaries generated from SEM images. Reservoirs with similar porosities can have markedly different permeabilities. Image analysis identifies which characteristics of a rock are responsible for the permeability differences. Imaging data can explain unusual fluid flow patterns which, in turn, can improve production simulation models.Analytical SchemeOur sample suite consists of 30 Middle East carbonates having porosities ranging from 21 to 28% and permeabilities from 92 to 2153 md. Engineering tests reveal the lack of a consistent (predictable) relationship between porosity and permeability (Fig. 1). Finely polished thin sections were studied petrographically to determine rock texture. The studied thin sections represent four petrographically distinct carbonate rock types ranging from compacted, poorly-sorted, dolomitized, intraclastic grainstones to well-sorted, foraminiferal,ooid, peloidal grainstones. The samples were analyzed for pore structure by a Tracor Northern 5500 IPP 5B/80 image analyzer and a 80386 microprocessor-based imaging system. Between 30 and 50 SEM-generated backscattered electron images (frames) were collected per thin section. Binaries were created from the gray level that represents the pore space. Calculated values were averaged and the data analyzed to determine which geological pore structure characteristics actually affect permeability.

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the correlation between the DNA Fragmentation Index (DFI) and sperm morphology in patients undergoing ICSI, as a predictive parameter in reproductive outcomes. Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 125 infertile patients enrolled in a fertility clinic. Seminal characteristics were measured following the WHO guidelines (2010) for the examination of the seminal fluid. After collecting motile sperm population by pellet swim up, DFI was calculated and simultaneously associated with sperm morphology using in situ TUNEL assay and an image analyzer software in at least 250 spermatozoa for each patient. Results All subjects were divided into two groups according to a cutoff established, by choice, of the sperm DFI (15%): group A (< 15%) consisting of 65 patients and group B (≥ 15%) of 60 patients. Data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical methods. The results demonstrate that there is no statistical difference between the two groups in seminal characteristics. The collective data show a high significant correlation, suggesting that spermatozoa with abnormal morphology are the best candidates to contain DNA damage (p < 0.001). Also, when group A is compared with group B, an increased percentage of morphologically normal spermatozoa with fragmented DNA was observed in patients, with DFI values ≥ 15% (p < 0.001). Conclusion These results are aimed at providing an exact value of DFI in morphologically normal spermatozoa, which will be helpful to the embryologist in evaluating the risk of transferring, during the ICSI procedure, a spermatozoon whit normal morphology but fragmented DNA.

ABSTRACTCollaborative work between Brookhaven and Los Alamos National Laboratories is developing a new type of linear accelerator that uses a high-power, picosecond pulse CO2 laser to irradiate a specialized form of grating with a pitch of 10.6 microns. The electromagnetic field that results can be used to accelerate electrons at field gradients of several GeV/m with potential efficiencies much better than current accelerators. The grating must be conductive to minimize resistive losses, be able to withstand high fields without damage, and requires dimensional tolerances in the sub-micron range. These requirements focus attention on grating material selection, microfabrication methods, and metrological methods used for quality control. At present, several types of gratings have been manufactured by reactive ion etching of fused silica in CHF 3/Ar or etching silicon with KOH/H 2O or ethylenediamine-pyrocatechol solutions. Metrological analysis of the gratings has begun with a Tracor Northern 5700 digital image analyzer.

Wettability for lead free solder 99.0Sn-0.3Ag-0.7Cu (SAC237) with addition of different weight percentage carbon nanotube after thermal treatment was investigated. SAC 237 solder powder with flux was mixed with 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.03% and 0.04% carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to form SAC-CNTs solder paste. Printed solder paste on test board with Cu surface finish was then reflow under 270°C temperature and isothermal aging at 150°C for 0,200 and 400 hours. Wettability of SAC-CNT solder was determined by measuring contact angle using optical microscope and image analyzer. As a result, from reflow process right through 400 hours of thermal aging, SAC237 with 0.04% CNT has the lowest contact angle as compared to other SAC-CNTs and SAC237 solder. As a conclusion, addition of carbon nanotubes into solder SAC237 improved their wettability on Cu substrate, especially at 0.04% of CNTs.

Abstract Objective.—To evaluate a possible association between clinical outcome of patients with oligodendroglioma and expression of 2 cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors, p21/Cip-1 (p21) and p27/Kip-1 (p27), and of DNA topoisomerase II-alpha (Ki-S1), which has been recently used as a marker of cellular proliferation. Design.—Ninety-one specially selected patients with cerebral oligodendrogliomas treated with surgery and radiotherapy were studied retrospectively. Tumor specimens were immunohistochemically examined with antibodies to p21, p27, and Ki-S1. A computerized color image analyzer was used to count immunostained nuclei. Results.—The mean Ki-S1 labeling index (LI) was found to be significantly prominent for World Health Organization (WHO) high-grade tumors (9.5% vs 3.2% for WHO low-grade tumors). In contrast, the mean p27 LI was significantly higher for low-grade tumors (43.3% vs 25.7% for high-grade tumors). The number of p21-positive cases and the mean p21 LI were found to be relatively equal for low- and high-grade tumors. For low-grade oligodendrogliomas, the progression-free and overall survival times were found to be significantly shorter for tumors with p27 LIs less than 20%. For high-grade oligodendrogliomas, survival times were significantly reduced for tumors with Ki-S1 LIs greater than 10%. Regression-tree analysis identified 4 groups of oligodendrogliomas with distinctly different outcomes: (1) 32 patients with low-grade tumors and p27 LIs greater than 20%; (2) 14 patients with low-grade tumors and p27 LIs less than 20%; (3) 25 patients with high-grade tumors and Ki-S1 LIs less than 10%; and (4) 20 patients with high-grade tumors and Ki-S1 LIs greater than 10%. Conclusions.—Immunoreactivity for Ki-S1 and p27 was found to be useful for further subdividing oligodendroglioma prognoses among low-grade and high-grade tumors. It seems unlikely that p21 immunohistochemistry will be of value for determining clinical outcomes for patients with oligodendrogliomas.
