This paper contextually endeavors to grant insights and perceptions on the teaching of English for Specific purposes (ESP) through ICT-based instruction amid COVID-19 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies in Tangier (FSTT). To avoid total curriculum disruption, the FSTT urgently declares online learning, which has palpably manifested a plethora of pitfalls primarily pertinent to logistics according to the study results. Drawing on previously published materials, the use of quantitative research analysis allows the researcher to empirically unravel different challenges and educational gaps among the research population. The findings of the survey indicate that more investment should be made at the level of research in order to enable ICT- based instruction to be more regulated, yet most importantly properly managed. By so doing, students’ motivation and interaction tremendously augment as they become more genuinely and actively engaged in the teaching/learning process.

Technology has impacted the learning approaches and vice-versa with an aim to improve the standards of language teaching/learning process. The present study focuses on teachers’ preferences and use of technology in their language classrooms. A survey was conducted to seek opinion of EFL teachers both male and female at the English language center on technology-related competencies. The survey comprised four domains: planning and preparation, classroom management, instruction, and professional responsibilities (Danielson, 2007).The questionnaire was distributed to 100 English language teachers (50 males and 50 females) at Taif University English Language Centre. They use the available technological gadget in the classroom to exploit some of the activities. They must use the university LMS for uploading certain activities and assessment otherwise they hesitate to design technology-based activities for English language learners. The global health disaster COVID-19 has imposed a self-refrainment from social gathering to contain the disease, because social distancing is the only shield from community spread. Home and work places are altogether giving an unanticipated, unpredicted and unpleasant milieu due to global spread of COVID-19. The teaching–learning process is no exception, with the closure of all educational institutions as a protective step to save lives. The teaching–learning process has been reflecting a very wide and deep impact of COVID-19. With all teachers and learners confined to their places of stay, learning has been impacted to a large extent, with a sense of uncertainty, insecurity and dilemma around effective learning. In fact, the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the mission and rigour of teaching–learning out of gear. With all classrooms shut, the pandemic has exposed teachers and learners more towards the online learning mode, with no other option perceptible at this point of time. Though online education has always been embraced by academics as a supporting tool, switching over completely to the online mode of learning has raised some serious concerns pertaining to its efficacy and the reluctance of learners in embracing it as a substitute of the regular mode of learning. This study reveals the perception of 2,895 learners on the efficiency of online learning as a substitute of the regular mode of learning. The results show the acceptance of online learning only as a supporting tool to regular learning instead of as a substitute of the regular learning mode on the basis of various factors of effective learning, such as content, pedagogy, assessment and rigour.

A lecturer should do an ‘extra efforts’ to make the teaching learning process run smoothly. However, during the process, there is a fallibility which might not be directly observed by the lecturer. The lecturer, therefore, needs to carry out an evaluation of his/ her teaching. It can be done is through applying Lesson Study which consists of plan, do and see and involving observers to optimize the process. This research was limited on answering the research problems: what are the observers’ roles in lesson study to improve the competency of the lecturers? and what are the mutual feedback of the observers in conducting lesson study? The design of this study was descriptive and qualitative research. The required data were collected by using active-participatory observation by observing 3 observers and 5 model lecturers. In addition, the researcher also did post-interview. Based on two cycles of lesson study, the researcher found that the observers had significant roles to improve their competency. Moreover, the findings showed that they got mutual feedback to improve their competency and classroom management which is discipline, active, interactive, enjoyable, and motivating to make an active learning. This proves that lesson study is worth to be applied in developing the competency of the lecturers in faculty of teacher training and education.
