For performing this research we started designing Seeger, in which one must look at the entire context in which the musical manifestation occurs, in order to more deeply understand their meanings. Participant observation and open-ended interviews with some of the major characters within the religious context were the main methodology used. We also recorded the field through photographs, videos and audio recordings in order to facilitate the establishment of a collection and facilitate the transcription and analysis of the material collected. With this study, we intend to demonstrate that the universe of sound in rituals of Umbanda is crucial and constitutive of these religious manifestations. In this regard, we note the recurrence of references to Africa and Bahia, to slavery, to the old black and suffering of the black community, along with a close association to black movements, community and its manifestations. Abstract This paper investigates the Lebanese conversational style in relation to Lebanese cultural values. The study adopts a discourse analysis approach based on interactional sociolinguistic methodology for the analysis of audio-recordings and semi-structured interviews involving Lebanese nationals (multi-active culture) and members of linear-active cultures, in addition to participant observation. Four distinctive linguistic features characterizing the Lebanese conversational style are identified: topic (focus on personal topics and abrupt topic shift), pacing (overlap and fast pace), expressive phonology and intonation, and formulaic language. The findings of this study reveal that the Lebanese have a high-involvement conversational style as a result of their cultural values which reflect those of high-context, multi-active and collectivist cultures. Furthermore, a connection is made between cultural and communicative differences which can account for instances of stereotyping and misunderstandings between members of the two cultural groups.

Earth is indisputably the cheapest and most abundant nature-given building material in the universe. Housing or shelter which is second most important need of man after food has become unreachable and unattainable by the low-income group in developing countries today. This is due to the high cost of building materials and the dependence on contemporary materials which only the rich can afford. Therefore, this paper appraised the applicability of earth as a building material, the advantages and acceptability or otherwise in Cross River State, Nigeria. The method of study includes literature review, participant observation, questionnaire administration and use of focal group discussion. The data obtained was analyzed using simple statistical approach with results presented in tables. Findings revealed that over 85% of the buildings in the study area are constructed with earth. Also, the level of acceptability of earth material is very high in the study area. The study concluded that more awareness should be created on the use of earth and government agencies should promote earth acceptability by constructing some housing projects using earth.

Photography has had a close association with anthropology from the beginning of the discipline. However, this proximity has not been as evident since the 1960s. Despite this seeming discomfort with photographs in contemporary social anthropology in particular, they can play a useful role in social research in general and social anthropology in particular as both sources of information and objects of research. This is not to about using photographs as a decorative element in a written text as is often done. What is useful is to see how photographs can become audible taking into account when and where they were taken and by whom. To do this however, methodological considerations of photography needs to travel from the sub-disciplinary domains of visual sociology and visual anthropology into the mainstreams of these disciplines as well as into the midst of the social science enterprise more generally.

This chapter discusses effective ways to develop relationships between communities and museums around shared cultural agendas, practice, and knowledge exchange. Through the lens of an eight-month pilot that emerged from the Pararchive project and was partnered by the National Media Museum (NMeM), Bradford, the chapter addresses what it means to access a dormant but invaluable national archive and associative collections from the position of differently situated community groups. It highlights how the Pararchive–National Media Museum partnership (PNMeM) promoted opportunities for community groups to select, document, and creatively exploit archival resources in ways in which conventional museological practice and use do not allow. The chapter also outlines the key challenges encountered. In doing so, this chapter draws on detailed notes generated through participant observation, on the study of relevant documents and artefacts, and on important insights gained from audio recordings of relevant project meetings and an evaluative end-of-project workshop.

In search for life in the Universe, scientists are interested in identification of molecules having amino (-NH2) group in the interstellar space. The aminoacetonitrile (NH2CH2CN), which is precursor of the simplest amino acid glycine (NH2CH2COOH), is identified near the galactic center. The 2-Aminopyridine (H2NC5H4N) is of interest for scientists as it has a close association with life on the earth. Based on spectroscopic studies, we have calculated intensities of 2-Aminopyridine lines due to transitions between the rotational levels up to 47 cm?1 and have found a number of lines which may help in its identification in the interstellar medium. Frequencies of some of these transitions are found close to those detected in the envelope of IRC +10216 that are not assigned to any of the known species.

ABSTRACT Purpose: The purpose of the research is to understand how the organization can assign meaning to the emotional labor performed by salespeople in the experience store. For this, it was analyzed the sources of the meaning of the work in the process of managing the emotions realized by the salespeople. Originality/value: There are few studies in the international literature that proposed to articulate the meaning of work (Rosso, Dekas & Wrzesniewski, 2010) and management of emotions (Grandey, 2000) and there is no research about it on the national level. Based on this gap, the present research proposes that the meaning of work and management of emotions are intrinsically related in the management field, as a way of homogenizing behaviors and feelings related to work and organization. The originality of the research is to explain how organizations can establish mechanisms of meaning to work and contribute to processes of management of emotions with a more genuine character, and, consequently, how this subjective form of the work contributes to the construction of the brand experience in the sales environment. Design/methodology/approach: This is qualitative research that occurred in an experienced store located in the city of São Paulo. The methodological strategy was to enter the universe of work of the salespeople, through participant observation technique, with the purpose of understanding and explaining how the sources of the meaning of the work can contribute in the process of management of the emotions realized by the salespeople. The Hermeneutics was adopted for data analysis. Findings: The research presents that the sources of the meaning of work promoted by the organization, such as "authenticity", "self-efficacy", "belonging", "self-esteem", "sense of purpose" and "transcendence" mobilizes the salespeople's genuine emotions toward organizational goals.

In analysis of the cultures of graduated karatekas, we intend to analyze that the mythical warrior traditions of Japan Samurai is present in a dominant way in karate globalization process, constitutive by an eastern philosophy, an identity lifestyle, and private organizational involvements as a form of resistance to Western sports competition model. We set three hypotheses and construct an analysis model. We have used extensive methodology and the application of various techniques of social research: direct observation, participant observation, semi-directive interviews and survey. The universe was 244 practitioners of advanced karate (brown and black belts), at national level. 31 interviews have been made. The results show that there are an identity lifestyle among experienced practitioners of karate, although due to particular uses and social provisions. The analysis of the information mobilized points out the existence of a character multidimensional of orientation. The data also point out that the relationships between the experience apprentices of karate of the non-competition and sport competition have been becoming characterized for tensions, resistance and conflicts dynamics, generators of scissions among teaching agents, practice spaces or clubs and federal structure.

The research is focused on finding the social, geographical, and religious context of the sawéran tradition in the Muslim community of Pasirtamiang, the dynamics of the message narrative in the sawéran lyrics, and the Islamic values and messages contained therein. This focus is important so that the dialectic between religion and culture, which is sometimes seen as a form of syncretism that endangers religion's existence, can be clarified. In this writing, the Muslim community of Pasirtamiang shows a fairly representative model of religious and cultural dialectics so that their people can preserve their cultural heritage without losing their Islamic identity. The research used explanative methods to find causal relationships between local wisdom facts identified by participant observation and in-depth interviews. The results showed that the socio-geographic and religious factors of the Pasirtamiang community also influenced the development process of the sawéran tradition. The format and substance of the sawéran content have transformed, the lyrics are simpler, and the Islamic values are emphasized, both technically and substantially. Islamic values in the lyrics sawéran are classified into divine, spiritual, and moral values. Overall, the content of sawéran's lyrics is an integral part of the Islamic message.
