A paper focuses on analyzing the impact of Big Data (BD) on minimizing the risk in investment and construction projects. The work presents the aspects of risk occurring during the execution of the construction project. It presents an on-line survey which was aimed at knowing the opinion of Polish construction companies on the BD, and checking their readiness to implement technologies supporting manipulation of the data. It was underlined that results of the BD analysis provide a powerful tool for risk management, however, it is hardly noticed by the Polish respondents.

Risk analysis and management is nowadays a critical factor to successful construction project management, as construction projects tend to be more complex, dynamic, always unique, and competition increasingly tougher. risk management helps the project participants—client, contractor or developer, consultant, and supplier—to meet their commitments and minimize negative impacts on construction project scope, cost, schedule (and quality, as a Result). The benefits of the risk management process include identifying and analyzing risks, and improvement of construction project management processes and effective use of resources. This paper reports the research that aims to discover how construction companies perceive the significance of the construction projects risks they face and the extent to which they employ potential risk responses. Santrauka Šiandien rizikos analizė ir valdymas yra svarbūs sėkmingam statybos projektų valdymui, nes statybos projektai tampa vis sudėtingesni, dinamiškesni, visada unikalūs, o konkurencija tarp statybos bendrovių taip pat didėja. Rizikos valdymas padeda projekto dalyviams—užsakovui, plėtotojui, rangovui, konsultantui ir tiekėjui—vykdyti savo įsipareigojimus ir sumažinti neigiamą taką statybos projekto apimčiai, išlaidoms, tvarkaraščiui ir kokybei kaip rezultatui. Rizikos valdymo proceso metu sistemingai nustatomi, analizuojami ir reaguojama į potencialius rizikos veiksnius, todėl statybos projektai valdomi efektyviau, veiksmingai naudojami ištekliai. Šiame straipsnyje trumpai pristatomas tyrimas, kuriuo siekiama sužinoti, kaip statybos bendrovės suvokia statybos projektų rizikos veiksnius, su kuriais jiems tenka susidurti, ir kokią reagavimo strategiją ir atsakomuosius veiksmus jos renkasi.

The paper studies the relationship between transaction costs and risk management in the construction projects affecting ecosystem considering economic externalities. Quantitative indicators of the impact of transaction costs on the level of risk in the project are thoroughly investigated. The construction project risk management model based on transaction costs is discussed in detail. Collected and experimental data of the construction project, which has a significant impact on the ecology of the Baikal region in the Russian Federation is analyzed and the uncertainty reduction caused by transaction costs is measured.

The success of the Government's construction projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 2011 has been anchored on the potential of construction firms in completing these projects based on the planned timeframe as well as the budget. Consequently, from a project management viewpoint, the main objective of the present study was to assess the critical success factors in developing countries' construction projects and to examine the impact of risk management, leadership, experience and expertise, and project size on construction projects in DRC. Data was gathered from respondents in the construction projects in DRC using quantitative methods. A statistical software program, SPSS version 25, was subsequently used to analyze the collected quantitative data. The findings emanating from this study contribute to the body of knowledge on key success factors in construction projects in DRC as a developing country. It was revealed from the study that the success of construction projects in DRC could be boosted through effective and efficient risk management. In addition, effective and efficient leadership mainly transactional leadership would affect construction project success. Further, the more the experience and expertise of construction project staff, the more likely the project success criteria would be met, and the more likely the project would be successful. And lastly, smaller-sized and medium-sized construction projects may be more successful, whereas mega projects may not be very successful due to insufficient and limited experience and expertise.

Delay-risk factors associated with clients in a construction project have a major impact on a successful delivery on time and within budgeted cost. Risk management studies so far have not effectively managed project risk factors in a way that can assist clients in creating strategies to reduce impacts and risk. To address these issues, the study aims to provide a new methodology for analyzing and managing the risks by building a conceptual model. The study includes the development of a framework, named the client risk management model (CRMM), by integrating the findings from a literature review and a construction industry survey. A client risk analysis system was developed by integrating the analytical hierarchy process and a Monte Carlo simulation within an @Risk program. A case study demonstrated the methodology to analyze and quantify the impact of risk factors, and to create a suitable risk mitigation strategy at the design stage of a construction project. The system was found to be useful for quantifying the impact of client risks and the support in taking proactive decisions.

Risk audit is often poorly implemented in construction projects because of the absence of constant auditing of risks by construction project managers. Construction companies are experiencing large financial deficits because of managers failing to audit and monitor project risks. The purpose of this study was to examine whether the utilization of risk audit correlates with project success in construction projects. An electronic survey instrument was used to collect data from a sample of 50 construction project managers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas in the United States. Spearman's rho correlational analysis and simple logistic regressions were used to examine the relationship between risk audit and project success. The results of this study indicated that there is a positive and significant association between risk audit and project success in terms of schedule performance, cost performance, customer satisfaction, and business success. One of the recommendations presented in this study was to expand the study to developing countries to see whether the findings from the study remain the same. The study concluded that construction organizations should regularly consider the importance and usage of risk audit techniques to improve the success rate of a project.

Risk management is one of the most essential and significant part of construction projects due to assuring the attainment of project goals. Because of increasing global energy, more attention is needed to be paid towards risk management in oil and gas companies. The aim of this study is to improve the implementation of risk management within contractor companies in the oil and gas construction project through the evaluation of the most import risk groups and the barriers of implementing risk management in this part of industry. The current study is carried out in Iran and the scope of study includes only the construction project in oil and gas companies. A total of 48 questionnaires were distributed to the respondents and only 35 were obtained duly answered. The data was analyzed using  SPSS software during the preliminary stage of this study, a variety of risk groups have been studied, six of it were identified to be the most probable in  oil and gas construction projects which includes financial, technical, contractual, design and construction, policy and political, and weather and environmental risk groups. Among these groups “financial risk” is the most critical group, while “weather and environmental” is the least critical group. The important barriers of implementing risk management are lack of expertise in techniques, lack of familiarity with techniques and lack of information and knowledge.

The article presents the results of research on psychosocial condition among Polish and Ukrainian students during the quarantine. The aim of the research was to verify the impact of the pandemic and its accompanying phenomena on the well-being of youth. In order to achieve this goal, the CAWI on-line survey method with double measurement was used. The first measurement carried out at the beginning of the quarantine resulted in 3659 filled out surveys in Poland and 739 in Ukraine. The second measurement conducted at the end of distance learning brought 1978 filled out surveys in Poland and 411 in Ukraine. The results of research indicate that the quarantine had a negative impact on the psychosocial condition of youth. The deterioration of emotional condition and the increase in mental disorders has been observed. Due to the pandemic and distance learning, the mental health of youth deteriorated significantly. Polish youth were negatively influenced by the pandemic to a greater extent than young Ukrainians.

Risk is a condition caused by uncertainty. Risks will occur on any construction project, including bridge construction projects. Efforts that can be taken to minimize the impact of these risks are to engage in risk management activities. This research was conducted on bridge construction work on toll road procurement project in Pejagan-Pemalang, Pemalang-Batang and Salatiga-Kertasura. The purpose of this research is to analyze the risk of bridge development project in toll road project using Risk Breakdown Structure (RBS) method and then the result as database in discussing risk response strategy. The bridge construction project has 36 risks that are divided into six groups: materials and equipment, design, human resources, finance, management, nature and environmental conditions. Bad weather risks are the higest risk and seasonal risk causing temporary work stoppages. This risk-response strategy is avoidance. Short-term avoidance response strategy is to add shift workers, install tents and add additives in the acceleration of the process of maturation of concrete. The long-term avoidance response strategy is to evaluate and rearrange the work schedule by considering the weather forecast report.

Purpose This paper aims to quantify the impact of craft worker shortage on construction project safety performance. Design/methodology/approach A database of 50 North American construction projects completed between 2001 and 2014 was compiled by taking information from a research project survey and the Construction Industry Institute Benchmarking and Metrics Database. The t-test and Mann-Whitney test were used to determine whether there was a significant difference in construction project safety performance on projects with craft worker recruiting difficulty. Poisson regression analysis was then used to examine the relationship between craft worker recruiting difficulty and Occupational Safety and Health Administration Total Number of Recordable Incident Cases per 200,000 Actual Direct Work Hours (TRIR) on construction projects. Findings The result showed that the TRIR distribution of a group of projects that reported craft worker recruiting difficulty tended to be higher than the TRIR distribution of a group of projects with no craft worker recruiting difficulty (p-value = 0.004). Moreover, the average TRIR of the projects that reported craft worker recruiting difficulty was more than two times the average TRIR of projects that experienced no craft recruiting difficulty (p-value = 0.035). Furthermore, the Poisson regression analysis demonstrated that there was a positive exponential relationship between craft worker recruiting difficulty and TRIR in construction projects (p-value = 0.004). Research limitations/implications The projects used to construct the database are heavily weighted towards industrial construction. Practical implications There have been significant long-term gains in construction safety within the USA. However, if recent craft shortages continue, the quantitative analyses presented herein indicate a strong possibility that more safety incidents will occur unless the shortages are reversed. Innovative construction means and methods should be developed and adopted to work in a safe manner with a less qualified workforce. Originality/value The Poisson regression model is the first model that quantifiably links project craft worker availability to construction project safety performance.
