Accounting for inflation is one of the more controversial topics in financial reporting. This paper traces the evolution of the system of inflation accounting used in one of the most highly inflationary economies in the world—Brazil. The history of inflation accounting in Brazil (known as monetary correction) is divided into three time periods: pre-1964, 1964 to 1976, and 1976 to the present. The events pertinent to the system of monetary correction in each of these periods are first discussed and then evaluated. It is shown that the system of monetary correction has been subject to massive political pressures since its inception, but gradual improvements have taken place over the years.

Accounts of conflict often ignore the plight of female survivors. In this paper, we explore the history of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge years focusing on the suffering of three females during these years along with their current outlook and support for education in their village. Situated against the history of the three specific time periods: the Khmer Republic Period, the Khmer Rouge Period, and the Vietnamese Period, the words of these women help us understand the personal toll behind numbers and facts. Reported using the Portraiture Approach with a feminist lens, their stories serve as a frame for understanding the female experience in current genocidal regions of the world.

Persistent inflation in the American economy has led accounting rule makers to require large firms to report the effects of inflation on certain of their financial statement data. At present, these adjusted data are to be presented as supplementary disclosures under Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 33, “Financial Reporting and Changing Prices.” One major result will be significant changes in cost estimates and asset valuations. The changes in financial accounting requirements are likely to be reflected almost immediately in managerial accounting procedures, with specific implications for marketing decisions in such areas as new product introduction, pricing strategy, and the valuation of individual customers and market segments. The authors describe the new accounting data briefly and, using examples, illustrate the implications for marketing managers.

The ‘Epilogue’ takes an overview of accounting and considers some high level questions. How important has accounting been in the history of the world? It is clear that some sophisticated record-keeping system is necessary for larger and complex international organizations and double-entry bookkeeping serves well in this function, which is why it has gradually replaced other systems around the world. Can we rely on accounting? There are now fairly detailed rules on what to disclose and how to measure, plus monitoring and enforcement have been strengthened around the world. Did accounting cause the global financial crisis? Is financial reporting as good as it can get? And can we trust the auditors?

Research background: Manipulation and the use of creative accounting or earnings management have become an increasingly popular topic in the history of researchers. Since 2002, this issue has attracted the attention of scientists and economists around the world. On the Slovak market, more than 30 insurance companies are actually operating, and some analyses have revealed that some of these insurance companies are engaging in activities that do not comply with the law. Purpose of the article: The article aims to use selected models for the detection of fraudulent financial reporting to determine whether there are unfair activities in insurance companies in Slovakia. At the same time, we evaluate the reliability of selected models and recommend the best models for this sector. Methods: Based on the set criteria, the Beneish model with five parameters and the Beneish model with eight parameters are applied to selected 20 companies in the Financial and Insurance activities sector to determine which companies have manipulated the financial statements. The analysis is performed using real data on Slovak companies from the Amadeus database. Findings & Value added: For the Financial and Insurance activities industry, we recommend using the Beneish model with eight parameters. Comparing the two models, we can conclude that this model is more accurate and thorough. The reason is also that this model works with more data from the financial statements.

Past decade has witnessed several changes in the process of conduct of business activities across the world especially due to the wave of globalization. It has also made drastic changes in the process of financial reporting, in particular the continuing adoption of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) worldwide. IFRS are high quality, understandable, enforceable and globally acceptable accounting standards issued by IASB (International Accounting Standard Board). Thus these are a set of international accounting standards stating how a particular type of transaction and other events should be reported in the financial statements. Thus IFRS are designed as a common global language for business affairs so that company accounts are understandable and comparable across international boundaries. IFRS is becoming the global language of business with over 40% of the world adopting this as their standard for reporting. India also decided to converge to IFRS from 1st April 2016 in a phased manner, which in turn improves the financial statement comparability and transparency that helps to attract greater cross border investments. This paper focuses on the convergence of IFRS with Indian Accounting Standards, its utility, issues and challenges faced by the stakeholders. It also throws light to the ways through which problems can be addressed.

Mültecilerin Filistin’den ayrılırken yanlarına aldıkları anahtar, tapu ve toprak gibi nesnelerin saklanıyor olması, Filistin’e olan bağlılığın devam ettiğinin işaretlerinden biridir.ABSTRACT IN ENGLISHPalestinian refugees’ lives in MersinIn the history of Palestine, 1948 and 1967 wars have caused fleeing of thousands of Palestinians to other countries.
