The aim of our research was to study the influence of different doses of the probiotic Prolam TM о n the germicidal activity of neutrophils of calves’ blood in a newborn period. Our studies have shown that the daily watering of probiotic Prolam TM to the calves within 10 days after birth in a dose of 5 ml did not have a material impact on the adaptive reserve of neutrophils having oxidase activity . The use of this probiotic in a dose of 20 ml optimized homeostasis that was evidenced by the reduction of the relative content of neutrophils in the blood of calves to the normative values and caused the rising of the oxygen - dependent germicidal activi ty of neutrophils of calves blood. The selection of effective doses of probiotics can be justified indicators oxidase activity of blood neutrophils of newborn calves.

The agrotechnical significance of leguminous crops, in particular soybeans, consists in its ability to provide a huge bulk of vegetable protein and less nitrogen depletion of soils than non-legume crops [2]. Despite the fact that nitrogen symbiotically fixed by soybean plants is alienated with the harvest and taken out of the field with organic residues of leguminous crops, more nitrogen remains in the soil after them than with residues of other crops. In this regard soybeans are good predecessors in various stages of crop rotation. The article discusses topical issues of increasing productivity of leguminous crops, in particular, soybeans, when using different doses of ammophos against the background of its placement in various ways of main tillage of drained leached chernozems. In 2018–2019 studies were carried out to establish the influence of the optimal dose of mineral nutrition and the best method of soil cultivation on the productivity and quality indicators of soybeans of the French selection of the Amphora, Mentor and Isidor varieties. According to the results of the research, different effectiveness of the considered variants of the experiment was established. Thus, higher rates of soybean yield were noted in the later-maturing Isidor variety within 2,03–2,30 t/ha for plowing, and 1,70–1,91 for soil disking. The most cost-effective dose of mineral nutrition for all studied soybean varieties was the dose of 50 kg/ha of Ammophos (N6H26) against the background of plowing, where the profit from the increase in yield relative to the control was in the range of 2900–3650 rubles/ha, and against the background of disking soil the dose of Ammophos was 100 kg/ha (N12H52), where the profit was in the range of 1300–2050 rubles/ha.

Abstract Stimulus-responsive therapy that allows precise imaging-guided therapy is limited for osteoarthritis (OA) therapy due to the selection of proper physiological markers as stimulus. Based on that the over-production of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) is one of the leading causes of OA, we selected ROS as markers and designed a cartilage-targeting and ROS-responsive theranostic nanoprobe that is highly specific for effective bioimaging and therapy of OA. This nanoprobe was fabricated by using PEG micelles modified with ROS-sensitive thioketal linkers (TK) and cartilage-targeting peptide, termed TKC, which was then encapsulated with Dexamethasone (DEX) to form TKC@DEX nanoparticles. Results showed that the nanoprobe can smartly “turn on” in response to excessive ROS and “turn off” in the normal joint. By applying different doses of ROS inducer and ROS inhibitor, this nanoprobe can emit ROS-dependent fluorescence according to the degree of OA severity, helpful to precise disease classification in clinic. Specifically targeting cartilage, TKC@DEX could effectively respond to ROS and sustained release DEX to remarkably reduce cartilage damage in the OA joints. This smart, sensitive and endogenously activated ROS-responsive nanoprobe is promising for OA theranostics.

This paper presents the influence of varieties and different doses of applied nitrogen on grain yield and protein content of triticale. The experiment was set in the period from 2010 to 2012 in the north of Montenegro, in the vicinity of Bijelo Polje. The research included 5 varieties of winter triticale (Odyssey, Kg-20, Triumph, Rtanj and Tango) originating from different breeding houses and the following varieties of fertilization: control (without fertilization), only nitrogen in the amount of 60 kg ha-1 and nitrogen in the amount of 60 and 90 kg ha-1 in combination with the same amount of phosphorus and potassium (80 kg ha-1). The results of the study showed that the lowest average grain yield was obtained in the non-fertilizing variant - control. The use of fertilizers in all tested varieties has led to a very significant increase in yield in all variants compared to control. The Kg-20 variety had the lowest average yield, and the Tango variety had the highest. The highest average protein content was achieved in the fertilizer variant where only nitrogen was used in the amount of 60 kg ha-1. Among the researched varieties, the Triumph variety had the highest protein content in the grains. The data on the achieved yields and the content of protein in grains, depending on the variety and the used doses of fertilizer, indicate the characteristics of individual varieties and can serve as a criterion for the selection of the most suitable variety for certain agroecological conditions. This is particularly important for cattle-oriented farms, where the main priority is to ensure a sufficient amount of quality food.

Periodontal disease is the most common oral chronic inflammatory disease in humans. Recent studies have indicated that red light Photobiomodulation (PBM) could inhibit cell inflammation effectively, but the effect of different doses of PBM on the treatment of inflammation has to be improved. Thus, this study was aimed to investigate the effects of various doses of PBM (630 ± 30 nm, (1) 5 mW/cm2, 1 J/cm2, 200 s; (2) 5 mW/cm2, 3 J/cm2, 600 s; (3) 5 mW/cm2, 9 J/cm2, 1800 s; (4) 5 mW/cm2, 18 J/cm2, 3600 s; (5) 5 mW/cm2,36 J/cm2, 7200 s) on the anti-inflammatory response of human gingival fibroblasts. Our results suggested that PBM (630 ± 30 nm) with doses of 18 J/cm2 and 36 J/cm2 could significantly inhibit the production of inflammatory cytokines such as Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and IL-8, presumably due to the fact that a high dose of PBM treatment could reduce intracellular Reactive oxygen species (ROS) in human gingival fibroblasts, thus reducing the expression of COX-2 enzyme. In addition, it was found that treatment with different doses of PBM (630 ± 30 nm) did not result in reduced mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial dysfunction in human gingival fibroblasts. Our study provides a theoretical reference for the selection of PBM parameters and the application of PBM in the clinical treatment of periodontitis.

A methodology of selection of frothers for flotation process is presented in the paper. It is based on performing a series of fractionating flotation tests of a considered material at different doses of a selected frother and calculation of the mass balance of the process. Next, three steps are performed. The first one is determination of the frother dose and kinetic constant or specific rate, using the flotation limits plot relating maximum recovery and process rate, both at a selected maximum recovery of the considered material component. The second step is finding selectivity of separation by using the upgrading Fuerstenau plot, while the third element is frothers comparison plot in the form of selectivity versus process kinetics, at a selected maximum recovery, and also versus frother dose, for choosing the most suitable frother.

Like the policeman's lot, that of the therapist for syndromes with inborn errors of metabolism is usually not a happy one. In these circumscribed human experiments the pitfalls are manifold.1 This is especially true when the affected biochemical element is involved in the structure of the central nervous system and with the handicap expressed early in development (for example, disturbances of glycolipid, phospholipid, or mucopolysaccharide metabolism). For any theoretically useful therapeutic trial to be launched, four criteria must be met: (1) diagnosis should be established in very early life (? newborn period, or earlier), preferably utilizing both laboratory and clinical evidence; (2) direct scientific pertitience should exist relative to the selection of the agent for the trial; (3) the program of therapy should be technically simple enough, and sufficiently free of noxious side effects, that relatively bugterm employment is possible; and (4) there should be available several discrete markers of the altered metabolism of the syndrome, which can be used in efforts at quantitation of the effects of the plan.

Abstract Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality from infection. The first CGD gene therapy trial resulted in only short-term marking of 0.01% to 0.1% of neutrophils. A recent study, using busulfan conditioning and an SFFV retrovirus vector, achieved more than 20% marking in 2 patients with X-linked CGD. However, oxidase correction per marked neutrophil was less than normal and not sustained. Despite this, patients clearly benefited in that severe infections resolved. As such, we initiated a gene therapy trial for X-CGD to treat severe infections unresponsive to conventional therapy. We treated 3 adult patients using busulfan conditioning and an MFGS retroviral vector encoding gp91phox, achieving early marking of 26%, 5%, and 4% of neutrophils, respectively, with sustained long-term marking of 1.1% and 0.03% of neutrophils in 2 of the patients. Gene-marked neutrophils have sustained full correction of oxidase activity for 34 and 11 months, respectively, with full or partial resolution of infection in those 2 patients. Gene marking is polyclonal with no clonal dominance. We conclude that busulfan conditioning together with an MFGS vector is capable of achieving long-term correction of neutrophil oxidase function sufficient to provide benefit in management of severe infection. The aim of the study was to determine anaerobic capacity and characterize changes in repeated sprint ability (RSA) within youth elite handball players. For this study, 142 male athletes (17.1 ± 0.9 years) were recruited from a handball sports high school and performed the RSA test on a cycle ergometer, including five 6 s all-out efforts separated by 24 s passive breaks. Maximal (Pmax) and mean (Pmean) power, highest (Wmax), and total work (Wtot) as well as power (Pdec) and work (Wdec) decrement were measured. Significant differences in RSA were noted in relation to age (greater values of Pmax, Pmean, Wtot, Wdec, and Pdec in U19 than U17 as well as greater values of Pmax, Wtot, Wmax, Wdec, and Pdec in U19 than U16 (p < 0.05)) and playing position (wing players had greater Wtot than pivot, 269 vs. 243 (J/kg) (p < 0.05), and wing players differed significantly in absolute and relative power from athletes of other positions). RSA depends on playing position and age in groups of youth handball players and the RSA test can be helpful in the selection of athletes for a playing position. The article introduces normative values for elite youth handball players, empowering coaches in the evaluation of anaerobic abilities and selection.
