Personality is considered one of the internal factors that have an impact on students’ ability in language learning. The present study investigated the impact of personality types on their ability in writing English. There are two types of personalities studied: Extrovert and Introvert. The research is quasi-experiment. Students at grade XI Vocational School 1 Sungai Penuh engage in the study, whereas only two classes selected as samples (experimental class and control class). Students were given a personality questionnaire to recognize their personality types. Then, the writing test carries out in each class in order to know the student's ability in writing. The data are analyzed by using t-test. The finding of hypotheses testing proves that the p-score is 0,00. Thus, the p-score is lower than 0,05 (0,00<0,05) which means H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. Hence, there is a significant impact on students’ personalities to their writing ability. Students with introvert personalities have better writing scores than students with extrovert personality.

This study investigated the impact of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) on phrasal verbs learning in EFL context. Participants were 40 intermediate Iranian English learners. They were randomly divided into experimental and control groups of 20 each. The instruction of the control group was limited to the class activities but the experimental group received the instruction through Short Messaging Service (SMS) on their smart cellphones and worked with a new phrasal verbs learning application by Cambridge University Press called Phrasal Verbs Machine (PVM). The analysis of the data revealed that MALL instruction was more effective than in class language learning instruction. Results of the study indicate that smart cellphones as a tool for language learning provide a platform for language learners to use the language actively.

This study reveals the impact of using parallel corpora on EFL students' writing, and how students perceive it. Female undergraduates (n=46) in an EFL writing course in Saudi Arabia were divided randomly into experimental and control groups taught by the same instructor, using the same materials. Students in the experimental group were introduced to three parallel corpora and encouraged to use them in their writing. Tests at the beginning of the semester showed no difference in English proficiency or writing ability between groups. Over the semester, students in both groups also wrote 5 writing assignments and took three writing exams. To examine students' perceptions of parallel corpora, students in the experimental group were asked to write a self-evaluation report and answer an evaluation questionnaire. Quantitative and qualitative analysis showed significant improvement in their writing but no significant difference between groups. However, students' perception of parallel corpora was generally positive.

To this aim, a pre-test, a post-test and a questionnaire were used to gather data. 40 intermediate language learners participated in this study, and they were divided into two groups; experimental and control groups. Timed reading activity was employed as the treatment for the experimental group. The collected data revealed that the treatment had effect on the reading speed of the participants in the experimental group. Moreover, the data indicated that the timed reading activity was not highly effective to develop the reading comprehension skill of the language learners. ABSTRACTThis study is intended to acquire empirical evidence regarding the impact of the teacher's Indirect Written Corrective Feedback on students' writing ability of explanation texts. Fifty six students enrolling at a high school in Jakarta were selected as the sample. They were separately distributed in the experimental class and the control class that respectively contained 28 students. Purposive sampling was utilized to recognize who the research subjects were and what level of their competence was for inclusion in this study. A quasi-experimental design, which is a subpart of a quantitative method, was employed. The data were assembled by running a writing test in the pre-test and post-test sections, whose results were followed by normality and homogeneity tests. The findings showed that the experimental class’ post-test outcome was 64.71, while the control class’ post-test was 58.25. Since the t-value surpasses the t-table (2.502>1.675), it indicates that the teacher's Indirect Written Corrective Feedback has a significant effect on improving students' writing explanation texts.ABSTRAKStudi ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh bukti riil terkait pengaruh dari umpan balik tertulis tidak langsung oleh guru terhadap kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks eksplanasi.

The purpose of this research was to see the effects of Mind Mapping Technique toward students’ writing ability especially in writing descriptive text.  The results of Post-test experiment and control class were used to confirm the hypothesis. The population of this research was all of the students at X grade of  Senior High School 3 Padang Panjang, consisting of 96 students who spread in 3 classes. Two classes were taken as sample by using cluster random sampling.  Writing test was used to collect the data. The treatments were done in six meetings. The data of this research were analyzed by using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) Program. The result showed that the mean score of students’ post-test at experimental class was (65.94) higher than those of control class (58.16). The  calculation of the test showed that t-calculate was (8.27) higher than t-table (1.67) at the significant level of .05 meaning that students who were taught through Mind Mapping technique produced better writing skills in descriptive text.  It can be concluded that teaching writing by using mind mapping technique gave significant difference on students’ writing ability at X grade of Senior High School 3 Padang Panjang.
