The experiment group was taught with Edmodo while the control group was taught with Quipper School. The instrument was a writing test. The findings of this research, with respect to the comparison of post test mean scores between the experimental group and the control group, were as follows. There was a significant difference on students’ general writing ability. There were significant differences on students’ writing ability in the aspects of content and language use. However, there was no significant difference. The students’ responses were positive toward the use of Edmodo as a blended learning. Further studies are recommended for other school levels. It seems that Edmodo is more effective than Quipper School in writing lesson since the learning platform in Edmodo gives facilities for the students to work independently, enables them to improve their quality and has more practical, interactive, and interesting features.

Face and content validity were done by asking the English teacher and advisor to be expert judgements to validate the instrument by using a rubric appearance of test for face validity and its conformity by curriculum as a content validity. Inter-rater reliability in giving scores to the students’ was done to measure the reliability of the test. This research used SPSS in analysing the data of speaking test through several activities. They were pre-test before treatments, and post-test after treatments. The result of the research shows the significant difference in the story retelling ability between tenth grade students who were taught by using chunking strategy and those were not taught by using it. It can be seen in the result of mean score in the post-test of experimental class which is 89 and control class which is 83 and as a result Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.044 0.050. The experimental group was required to do some phases in treatment of 16 meetings including pre-test and posttest in accordance with introducing new model of teaching speaking that was CML through legends. The data were obtained through speaking test by measuring their oral interpretations to know the students speaking ability. The test was administered twice as pre-test and post-test in both groups. The results indicated that there were any significant differences at level 0.05 level found in the data which were analyzed by using paired sample t-test (t=12.156>t-table=2.080) and independent sample t-test (t=3.252, p<0.05). The results also showed that CML through legends could enhance students speaking ability of the second semester English students of Sriwijaya University.

Group Discussion is a modern method of assessing students personality. The objectives of the study are (1) to find out the students’ writing ability through group discussion and without group discussion, (2) to know if there is any significant difference of the students’ writing ability between using group discussion and without group discussion technique. The type of this research was experimental research. The sample were selected two classes by using cluster random sampling. Each class consisted of 30 students as experimental group and control group. Data were collected by using test and treatment. The instrument of this research was written test. The mean of post-test in control group is 71.83 and the mean of post-test in experiment group is 74.00. Then the t-test score obtained is 5.565 with degree of freedom (df) is 58. From the result of significant t- value is higher than t-table (5.565 > 1.671), it can be concluded that Ho (negative hyphothesis) is rejected. It means that Ha (positive hyphothesis) can be accepted. The conclusion is that using group discussion to teach writing spoof text for the students has significant effect for the improvement of students’ ability in writing spoof text.
