This study is an attempt to construct an assessment model for fishery resources by taking Aceh province as a case. The accuracy of assessment of sustainability in fishery resource utilization is crucial. An erroneous assessment may lead to a false management policy and thereby fish stock depletion may take place as a result. Three behavioral equations used in this study constitute supply and demand functions. A simultaneous equations system was applied to assess the sustainability of fishery resource utilization. The model also incorporated the possibility of relationship between two Aceh’s fishery areas and the possibility of disequilibrium fish market. The estimation results show that the Malacca Strait capture fishery market is in disequilibrium due to excessive demand. The Indian Ocean capture fishery supplies the consumption needs of the population on the Malacca Strait side and therefore significantly increases the supply in the later area.

Mackerel scads (Decapterus macarellus) is a small widely distributed pelagic species in ocean. In 2013, monthly catch and abundance index of mackerel scads increased in western part of Sumatera waters. High exploitation of mackerel scads may lead to decrease stock due to the over exploitation. Stock information is very useful for calculating of the potential fish. Genetic analysis is one of the powerful tools to estimate fish stock quickly. Genetic diversity of mackerel scads in this study was analyzed using RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism) with AfaI, EcoR I, HapII, HinfI and TaqI restriction enzyme. The results showed that the lowest genetic diversity of mackerel scads was Labuan population. Kinship Labuan was also the furtherest stock compared to other populations. It can be concluded that the population of Labuan is derived from a different sub-species. The closest kinship was between Aceh and Sibolga stock.

Kepadatan stok ikan merupakan indikasi dari potensi perikanan di suatu wilayah yang sangat penting diketahui. Tujuan tulisan ini membahas tentang laju tangkap, kepadatan stok dan perkiraan biomassa ikan demersal serta udang. Penelitian sumber daya ikan demersal dan udang di Samudera Hindia Barat Sumatera dilakukan dengan menggunakan Kapal Riset Baruna Jaya IV (1.200 GT) pada bulan Oktober dan November 2015 (Musim peralihan II). Penghitungan kepadatan stok menggunakan metode sweept area dengan panjang tali ris atas dari jaring trawl 36 m, kecepatan kapal saat menarik jaring berkisar 2,5 – 3 knot, lama penarikan jaring maksimal 1 jam. Perairan Samudera Hindia Barat Sumatera terdiri dari 151 spesies yang tergolong dalam 59 famili. Famili ikan demersal yang dominan tertangkap (5 besar), yaitu Leiognathidae sebesar 23,6 %, Trichiuridae 9,8%, Haemulidae 8,0%,  Engraulididae 6,6%, dan Polynemidae 6,05%. Famili udang yaitu Penaeidae (79,08%), Scyllaridae 19,49%, dan Solenoceridae 1,43%. Rata-rata laju tangkap ikan demersal 205,80 kg/jam, dengan kepadatan stok 6,66 ton/km2 dan udang 2,30 kg/jam dengan kepadatan stok 0,053 ton/km2. Biomassa ikan demersal diperkirakan sebesar 470.122 ton dan udang 3.706 ton.  Fish stock density  is an index of stock abundance indicating the fish resources potential in a region.  This paper discusses the catch rate, stock density and biomass estimates of the demersal fish and shrimp resources. Research on the demersal fish and shrimp resources in the Indian Ocean-Western Sumatera conducted using the Research Vessel Baruna Jaya IV (1200 GT) carried out during  October and November 2015 (2nd intermonsoon season). Stock density was estimated through the swept area method. The trawl used has 36 m headrope, trawling speed of 2.5 - 3 knots, and maximum towing time was 1 hour. It was found that the fish resources in the waters of the Indian Ocean-Western Sumatera consisted of 151 species belonging to 59 families. The top five dominant fish families caught were Leiognathidae of 23.6%, Trichiuridae 9.8%, Haemulidae 8.0%, Engraulididae 6.6%, and Polynemidae 6.05%, while the shrimp families were Penaeidae of 79.08%, Scyllaridae 19.49%, and Solenoceridae 1.43%. The average catch rate of demersal fish was 205.80 kg/hour, with a stock density of 6.66 tons/km2 and shrimp of 2.30 kg/hour with a stock density of 5.3 kgs/km2. The estimated biomass of demersal fish was  470,122 tons and shrimp was 3,706 tons.

In this work, we build a two-dimensional dynamical fishery model in which the total harvest is obtained by a multiagent game with best reply strategy and naive expectations, i.e. each agent decides the harvest quantity by solving a profit maximization problem. Special attention is paid to the global dynamic analysis in the light of feasible domains (initial conditions giving non-negative trajectories converging to an equilibrium), which is related to the crisis of extinction. We also study the existence and stability of non-negative equilibria for models through mathematical analysis and numerical simulations. We discover the increase in the margin price of fish stock may lead to instability of the fixed point and make the system sink into chaotic attractors. Thus the fishery resource may fluctuate in a stochastic form.

Issues related to the community resilience became more popular after the earthquake and Tsunami tragedy in the Indian Ocean and Aceh, Indonesia, 2004. The community resilience is the ability of communities to withstand and mitigate the stress of a disaster, there is less clearness on the detailed resilience-building process. The risk perception is concerns how an individual understands and experiences the phenomenon and believed to affect people’s preparedness for, responses to and recovery from natural disasters. Aims of this study are to identify the relationship between the community resilience elements such as community experience, community exposure, community reaction, community attitude, community knowledge and the community risk perception using survey gathered from 542 samples of Banda Aceh Province community, Aceh, Indonesia. Results found out there is a significant relationship between the community resilience elements such as community experience, community exposure, community reaction, community attitude, community knowledge and the community risk perception. Statistically, results confirm that the implementation of the community resilience elements such as community experience, community exposure, community reaction, community attitude, and community knowledge act as an important determinant of community risk perception towards disasters risk management at Banda Aceh Province community.

Bayesian inference is increasingly used in estimating model parameters for fish-stock assessment, because of its ability to incorporate uncertainty and prior knowledge and to provide information for risk analyses in evaluating alternative management strategies. Normal distributions are commonly used in formulating likelihood functions and informative prior distributions; these are sensitive to data outliers and mis-specification of prior distributions, both common problems in fisheries-stock assessment. Using a length-structured stock-assessment model for a New Zealand abalone fishery as an example, we evaluate the robustness of three likelihood functions and two prior-distribution functions, with respect to outliers and mis-specification of priors, in 48 different combinations. The two robust likelihood estimators performed slightly less well when no data outliers were present and much better when data outliers were present. Similarly, the Cauchy distribution was less sensitive to prior mis-specification than the normal distribution. We conclude that replacing the normal distribution with "fat-tailed" distributions for likelihoods and priors can improve Bayesian assessments when there are data outliers and mis-specification of priors, with relatively minor costs when there are none.

On 26 December 2004, a devastating tsunami struck the coasts of 12 nations on the Indian Ocean. Over 300,000 people in 12 countries died in the wake of the tsunami, millions of housing units were damaged or destroyed, economies were devastated, and ecosystems were disrupted. The lessons from this catastrophe have worldwide implications, but the tragedies were local. Sri Lanka and the Aceh province of Indonesia suffered most of the casualties. The Sri Lankan experience illustrates that the recovery can be hindered by a country's social and political conditions. Challenges to recovery include the need for centralized coordination and organization, planning and development control, gathering planning data, political leadership, equitable distribution of recovery assistance, and disaster education.

Bordered with the Indian Ocean, Simeulue Islands is one of the outermost islands in Indonesia located in the west part of Aceh Province. Simeulue waters are productive areas due to the unpolluted condition yet and great of biomass. Three regions were particularly observed, those are Simeuluecut, Ganting, and Labuhan Bajau. In those areas, the existing marine tourism activities might influence the coral reef ecosystem studied. This study aimed to evaluate the condition of coral and coral reef fish in those three particular regions before mass bleaching event in 2016 triggered by ENSO. Point Intercept Transect (PIT) method was employed to record the percentage cover of coral, species diversity, and coral reef fish. Ganting waters was a moderate ecosystem area whith the percentage coverage was up to 45.62%. However, in Simeuluecut and Labuhan Bajau waters, the coral reef communities were excellent with coral percentage coverage reached 83.12% and 81.25 %, respectively. The highest  abundance genera of coral reef fish was observed in Simueluecut waters. This condition was changed oppositely in 2016 when mass bleaching threatened Simeulue waters due to temperature anomaly triggered by ENSO phenomenon. The temperature increases almost 3oC for 6 months that undoubtedly induced bleaching that about 50% of coral colonies were dramatically declined in coral coverage and coral recruitment.

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kota Banda Aceh, provinsi Aceh dengan mengambil sampel pada sejumlah restoran dan rumah makan berizin di Kota Banda Aceh. Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan data potensi limbah minyak jelantah yang dihasilkan dari restoran dan rumah makan di Kota Banda Aceh yang nantinya akan dipakai sebagai data awal dalam penentuan kebijakan pengelolaan limbah minyak jelantah sebagai sumber energi alternatif yaitu biodiesel. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif analitis dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dimana untuk mendapatkan jumlah potensi limbah minyak jelantah dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode statistik dengan pengambilan sampel populasi secara acak. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah didapatkannya besaran jumlah potensi limbah minyak jelantah yang dihasilkan oleh sebanyak 52 restoran dan rumah makan berizin yang ada di kota Banda Aceh yaitu sebesar 184,956 liter per harinya.This research was conducted in the city of Banda Aceh, Aceh province by sampling a number of licensed restaurants in the city of Banda Aceh. The main objective of this study was to obtain data on the potential waste of used cooking oil from restaurants in the city of Banda Aceh which would later be used as preliminary data in determining the management policy of waste cooking oil as an alternative energy source, namely biodiesel. The method used in this study was a descriptive analytical method with a quantitative approach where to obtain the potential amount of waste used cooking oil is done using statistical methods with randomly population sampling technique. The results of this study are obtaining the potential amount of waste cooking oil produced by as many as 52 licensed restaurants and food court/shop in the city of Banda Aceh, amount to 184,956 liters per day.
