Automated systems that are part of cyber-physical systems provide distribution of goods or prefabricated components, as well as their documenting and automatic tracking in real-time. Workpieces are marked with RFID transponders. RFID antennas allow contactless reading and/or recording of information, RFID electronics process and transmit it to the programmable logic controller via PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, Ethernet IP, Ethernet TCP/IP, or EtherCAT interface. The peculiarities of the universal interface for the needs of cyber-physical systems equipped with RFID means and the main metrological characteristics of the latter are studied in the work.

Cyber-physical systems, in which computation and networking technologies interact with physical systems, have made great strides into manufacturing systems. From the early days, when electromechanical relays were used to automate conveyors and machines, through the introduction of programmable logic controllers and computer numerical control, computing and networking have become pervasive in manufacturing systems. By increasing the amount of automation at multiple levels within a factory and across the enterprise, cyber-physical manufacturing systems enable higher productivity and higher quality as well as lower costs.

Abstract The use of radio frequency identification (RFID) equipment in the clinical setting has become prevalent. The exploration of the potential interactions between the equipment used to implement RFID and medical devices is vital to ensure safe and effective use of both the tracking technology and the patient care equipment. This study examines the effects of two common RFID antennas, Near-Field and Far-Field, and five general types of patient care equipment. Data were collected regarding the function of the patient care equipment in the fields of the antennas. No device performance alterations were observed.

Industries, regulators, and consumers alike see cybersecurity as an ongoing challenge in our digital world. Protecting and defending computer assets against malicious attacks is a part of our everyday lives. From personal computing devices to online financial transactions to sensitive healthcare data, cyber crimes can affect anyone. As technology becomes more deeply embedded into cars in general, securing the global automotive infrastructure from cybercriminals who want to steal data and take control of automated systems for malicious purposes becomes a top priority for the industry. Systems and components that govern safety must be protected from harmful attacks, unauthorized access, damage, or anything else that might interfere with safety functions. Automotive Cybersecurity: An Introduction to ISO/SAE 21434 provides readers with an overview of the standard developed to help manufacturers keep up with changing technology and cyber-attack methods. ISO/SAE 21434 presents a comprehensive cybersecurity tool that addresses all the needs and challenges at a global level. Industry experts, David Ward and Paul Wooderson, break down the complex topic to just what you need to know to get started including a chapter dedicated to frequently asked questions. Topics include defining cybersecurity, understanding cybersecurity as it applies to automotive cyber-physical systems, establishing a cybersecurity process for your company, and explaining assurances and certification.

The security in container ports is affecting the marine transport in close to 35% of the cases of container transportation, from damage, theft, and fraud. Because this sector is affected by security in several ways, this paper will present the economic analysis of the security in ports as sufficient justification to RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) implementation. This paper will attempt to justify against manually tracking and inspection. Furthermore, we will investigate how RFID is more economically viable and it is an accurate way to track the container to prevent and to track violations in security. Consequently, this paper will show a cost analysis to compare the manually tracking with the automatic tracking. A mathematical model will be presented as a result of this cost analysis. For the investment of RFID system this paper will present a ROI (Return of Investment) to find which alternative is better, to stay in status quo or improve the security system using RFID. Because there exist other benefits to implement RFID, it is sufficient to obtain at least equal NPV (Net Present Value) of both alternative, the manually tracking and security, and the automatic security and automatic tracking with RFID.

Printed antennas fabricated using conductive ink printed on flexible substrate is low-cost and environmental friendly. The inductance and the quality factor are two important parameters for designing RFID antenna and were studied for the printed RFID antennas. The results show that the inductance is not only determined by the size of the designed RFID antenna but also related to the resistance of the printed antenna coils. The inductance increases with the increasing testing frequency, while the Q value decreases with the increasing testing frequency. The soft magnetic ink prepared with γ-Fe2O3 was used to enhance the inductance of the printed antennas with printing technology. The inductance of the printed antenna with the magnetic core layer is increased by 5.7% at 13.56 MHz.

This paper introduces 3D direct writing and microdispensing of graphene ultrahigh frequency (UHF) radio-frequency-identification (RFID) antennas on textile, wood, and cardboard substrates, subsequently cured either by conventional oven or photonically by pulsed Xenon flashes. Photonic-cured passive UHF RFID graphene tags on cardboard, wood, and textile substrates achieve read ranges of 5.4, 4.6, and 4 meters, respectively. These results are superior to those achieved by the oven-cured tags that featured read ranges of 4.8, 4.5, and 3.6 meters, respectively. This work presents the first integration of 3D printing and photonic curing of graphene antennas on low-cost versatile substrates.
