The purpose of this study was to examine the cross-cultural differences in vocational identity between American and Korean university students using the Vocational Identity Status Assessment. A total of 881 university students in both the United States and South Korea were sampled in this study assessing vocational identity. We compared means of latent variables (six dimensions of Vocational Identity Status Assessment in the present study) using latent mean analysis. The results indicated that Korean students showed higher scores on Career Self-doubt and Career Flexibility, whereas American students showed higher scores on In-breadth Exploration, In-depth Exploration, Commitment Making, and Commitment Identification. These results indicated the components of vocational identity that should be considered while providing career guidance to college students from diverse backgrounds. Implications for understanding the cultural differences of college students’ vocational identity and the need for conducting cross-cultural comparison studies to provide insights about the vocational development of college students in cross-cultural settings are discussed.

The relationship between career indecisiveness, fear for commitment and vocational identity. This study examined the correlation between the constructs career indecision, fear of commitment and vocational identity. Ninety-eight under-graduate university students served as research participants and completed the Career Decision Scale (CDS), the Vocational Identity Scale (VIS) and the Fear of Commitment Questionnaire (FOCQ). The results indicated that the scores on the CDS were significantly related (p is smaller than 0,05) to the scores on the VIS and the FOCQ. Support was obtained for the important role of the construct of identity in the explanation of career indecisiveness. Opsomming In die onderhawige studie is die aard van die verband tussen die konstrukte beroepsbesluitloosheid, vrees vir gebondenheid en beroepsidentiteit ondersoek. Ag-en-egentig voorgraadse universiteitstudente is by die studie betrek. Die ondersoekgroep het die Career Decision Scale (CDS), die Vocational Identity Scale (VIS) en die Fear of Commitment Questionnaire (FOCQ) voltooi. Die resultate het aangetoon dat daar beduidende verband (p is kleiner as 0,05) tussen die verkree totaaltellings op die CDS, die VIS en die FOCQ bestaan het. Die belangrike rol wat die konstruk identiteit in die verklaring van beroepsbesluitloosheid speel word deur die bevindings van die onderhawige studie ondersteun.

Objective: The aim of this study is to compare therelaxing effects of two religious music in people who has normal trait anxiety levels but high state anxiety levels and to investigate if the relaxing effect is relevant to cultural background. Methods: Sixty university students, aged between 20 and 25 with no psychiatric illnesses and no visual or hearing impairment were enrolled in this study. The participants were divided into subgroups consisting of ten people each. The two music applications were performed in two different sessions for each participants. All participants were given the trait anxiety inventory (STAI-2) at the beginning of the study, and state anxiety inventory (STAI-1) before the visual anxiety triggering material and after the music applications. Results: Both Sufi and Gregorian music caused a decrease in STAI-1 anxiety points, however, Sufi music was significantly effective in relieving anxiety compared to Gregorian music. Conclusion: The relatively more relaxing effect of Sufi music among participants may be due to the cultural archetypes.
