The progress of societies, their development, and their ability to compete economically depend on education. Education is both affected by changes in all these areas and affects them. The desired results from the new wave of industrial revolution called industry 4.0 can only be achieved through education as well. Industry 4.0 is the new industrial revolution that first appeared in Germany and includes applications such as autonomous vehicles, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence applications, block chain, and cloud computing systems. With the innovations brought by the revolution, it has been changing the ways of doing business and the competencies required from employees. Industry 4.0 requires university students to have new knowledge, competencies and skills before graduation, the workforce to acquire new skills, and the restructuring and transformation of higher education to achieve all of these. Thus, industry 4.0 is reshaping the future of education. This review study focuses on the connection of higher education and industry 4.0 by examining the national and international literature. It aims to present a general assessment of the steps to be taken in higher education in parallel with the requirements of industry 4.0 and the new competencies that should be acquired by graduates. It is concluded with some suggestions about what should be done regarding the international standards in order for the higher education curricula to adapt to the existing processes and changes, to train human resources in accordance with the conditions and demands of the age, what new competencies the workforce should have, and the steps to be followed regarding industry 4.0.

Facing the fourth industrial revolution, academics are researching the possible changes that might arise in education and skills of the future workforce. As the workplace develops, new competencies will surface. With this context in mind, the authors initiated this research. A detailed questionnaire was prepared as a pilot study to comprehend students' views on the use of technology in classrooms and its impact on their learning experience and engagement. Knowledge of their views allowed the authors to draw inferences as to the skills and competencies of future students and whether they would match Industry 4.0. Furthermore, a gap analysis was conducted, whereby the existing situation at a Canadian higher educational institution was compared to the desired situation, and recommendations were put forward.

Purpose Industry 4.0 is a term for the so-called Fourth Industrial revolutions. It is the technological integration of cyber-physical systems (CPS) in the process of production. CPS enables internet-based process networking with all participants in the process of value creation. The industrial revolution is actually changing how we live, work and communicate. Many trades have highly been affected by 4IR, libraries are one of them. The libraries of twenty-first century are shifting their paradigms from traditional setup to modern information networking. As people and machines are connecting to each other at enormous speed, artificial intelligence, mobile computing, machine learning and automation of every trade have become a need of the day. Automation and artificial intelligence are change agents in 4IR that will make certain groups of employees redundant, replacing them with new workers with the needed skills or with machines that do the job cheaper. This paper aims to shed light on how the 4IR will “shape the future of education, gender, work and library services”. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the challenges being faced by the library and librarians in the age of Industrial 4.0 revolution in contemporary society. The purpose of this study is to review the past literature on Industrial Revolutions 4.0 in education and interlink them with Library services. Design/methodology/approach The current study performs a systematic and content-centric review of literature relevant to library services. The literature of this study is based on a six-stage approach to identify the design principles and technology trends of 4IR in education and Library services. Findings Industry 4.0 Revolution is the current trend of revolutionary technology, which has affected many services in this age of globalization. Similar, Library services have highly been affected by 4IR. An effort has been made to highlight the vari-ous challenges being faced by libraries and librarians in this age of information. Some solutions have been presented to the library professionals to overcome this technology to boost its services up to the entire satisfaction of the patrons. Research limitations/implications The strategic approach in this study can serve the academicians and practitioners in the field of librarianship as a stepping stone to develop a successful transition from traditional manufacturing into the industry 4.0. Originality/value The study is among the first to identify the challenges being faced by libraries and librarians in this age of Industrial revolutions.

The industry has different industrial revolutions leading to great fluctuations in all areas of life, especially in the field of education. Technology has become ubiquitous in educational organizations help meet the demands of improving, optimizing, and personalizing education. The ability to automate learner tracking becomes possible, at least in the assessment of learner's diligence and progress as well as their acquisition of knowledge and skills. Especially in the context of knowledge becoming increasingly heterogeneous and complex in today's learning environment. With constant innovation and development in today's teaching and learning, we need transform the paradigm of integrating technology into the teaching process to accommodate collaboration and coordination. In this article, we propose a solution integrating technology into higher education in the context of higher education 4.0. University 4.0 concept is inspired by the industry 4.0 model and applies this concept to higher education to better meet the increasing needs of learners. The article also focuses on presenting the context of the industrial revolution and the education revolution, especially the digital transformation in education from education 3.0 to education 4.0, the challenges facing university 4.0. proposed university model 4.0. It is an open, flexible and interconnected university model, with the aim of providing learners with professional capabilities to meet the requirements of Industry 4.0, creating a lifelong learning environment, according to specific conditions, individual needs, aspirations and preferences of learners.

Talking about human development, the topic that keeps existing in higher education is skill-gap between university and industry. The challenge is getting harder with shifting conditions in the globe including the issue of industrial revolution 4.0. This challenge has an immediate effect on the existence and the development of vocational academy such as Indonesian Civil Aviation Institute. Therefore, this study explores the changes that occur in as Indonesian Civil Aviation Institute as a result of higher education policy in Indonesia. This study uses SWOT analysis to examine the strategies taken by this university to encounter the issue. Human capital is one of the country’s most significant economic metrics. Today, of course, the advancement of technology, the production of inventions, is a result of the human brain. It, in effect, naturally happens in countries with highly evolved human capital. This paper summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on the issue priorities of human capital development in Azerbaijan during the industrial revolution. The main purpose of the research is to identify and encourage the improvements in Industry 4.0 in Azerbaijan that would be essential for human capital, as well as to suggest a sustainable workplace outlook for current manufacturing businesses during the modern industrial revolution. The relevance of this scientific problem decision is that given the formation of new mechanisms of development on the eve of the 4th Industrial Revolution, these factors also have an impact on the development of human capital. Because the emergence of new professions during the 4th industrial revolution makes it necessary to form human capital in accordance with these professions. Investigation of the topic in the paper is carried out in the following logical sequence: introducton, literature review, research methodology, empirical findings and conclusions. We used some indicators expressed in the 2008-2017 Global Competitiveness Report of the Azerbaijan World Economic Forum to assess the findings. The object of research is the chosen country is Azerbaijan, because namely here, the development of human capital is one of the main goals of public policy. The paper presents the results of an empirical analysis regression, which showed that regression outcomes show that independent variables can explain 63.2 percent of the heterogeneity in higher education and training in Azerbaijan. Calculations of parameters indicate that any change of 1 percent in the independent variable will increase by 0.341 percent. The results of the study suggest that progressive reforms in Azerbaijan’s higher education and training have had a major effect. To meet the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, spending on human capital must be increased. The results of the research can be useful for in the direction of formation of competitive human capital and creation of modern innovation space in the coming years.

The stagnation of the domestic market has brought the majority of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) to their knees, leading them to reinvent their way of doing business and find new strategies in order to survive and grow when the environmental conditions are deeply changing. On the one hand, new trends create a strong disruption on a structural level among the productive fabrics, but on the other hand, they represent also an opportunity, which opens new scenarios and new possibilities for the relaunch of SMEs. Among the most important challenges for Italian SMEs is internationalization, which is the possibility for enterprises to trade their goods not only on the domestic market but also on the foreign markets trying to find new opportunities to obtain some advantages. This is a very complicated process, traumatic and challenging in term of resources, but the possibility to have a genetic patrimony and a productive value, as the ones of the “Made in Italy, gives to the products of Italian enterprises a high level of competition and strong differentiation, making this process more accessible. The growth and competitiveness of enterprises, in particular SMEs, increasingly depend on the ability to apply new knowledge, working methods, and technologies as well as on the opportunity to participate in the commercialization of research developments in order to create new products, services or processes. Therefore, companies should strive to benefit from the opportunities and competitive advantages that innovation brings. SMEs play an important role in economic growth and provide most of the new jobs in Italy. Within the framework of this paper, the insight into the SMEs internationalization process is presented. The article provides an analysis of SMEs in the process of internationalization. Besides it concentrates on the new threats and opportunities represented by the new industrial revolution - Industry 4.0. Analyzing the impact of Industry 4.0 on the internationalization of Italian SMEs, the authors explain the solutions that are being used and the ones that should be taken.

Industrial Revolution 4.0, as one of the main paradigms of the modern economy, requires higher education to straighten up to face this trend. Surabaya State University (UNESA) emphasizes the development of human resources (HR) as the main target of internal development in order to deal with industry 4.0. The academic community is encouraged to be sensitive to technology, by increasing intellectual capacity through civilization, training, competition, and / or schools. The study aims to identify the readiness of UNESA in facing challenges of Industrial Revolution 4.0. The implication of this research is to enrich the education management research about linking strategy between higher education and industry demand. The result showed that UNESA had moderate readiness in facing the challenges of Industrial Revolution 4.0 by deepening of intellectual capacity in the IT field through improving campus facilities and infrastructure, and procuring new learning technologies. Networking development with private sector is also becomes useful strategy in linking HR with the IT world related to Industry 4.0. Such a strategic effort under the prevailing laws and regulations enable UNESA to advance in pioneering the development of industry 4.0 on campus, especially for creating qualified graduates.

The future of education matters to all of us. This chapter presents a theoretical-inductive construction of the future of education, inspired by the advancements envisaged in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (also abbreviated to Industry 4.0 or IR4.0). Recent developments in the technological field make it imperative that university syllabi foster and grow technological and non-cognitive soft skills in tandem. The latter—socio-emotional skills—are considered crucial skills that endow “buoyancy” and resilience to the workforce. Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and tolerance are the key professional skills that should be nurtured among the upcoming generation of digital natives. The chapter builds on a previous publication and aims at advancing concrete proposals for the future of university education.

Purpose Currently, the expectancy that surrounds the Fourth Industrial Revolution, commonly referred to as Industry 4.0 (I4.0), is huge. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to unveil whether and how organizational and managerial practices are associated to different levels of adoption of I4.0 technologies. Design/methodology/approach To reach this aim, the authors carried out a survey involving Italian manufacturing firms. Then, the authors used a cluster analysis and t-test to analyze data. Findings Results show that two clusters of firms based on their level of adoption of I4.0 technologies (high vs low) can be identified. Then, using a t-test, the authors found statistically significant higher levels of a number of organizational and managerial practices for firms with a higher level of adoption of I4.0 technologies. Practical implications This paper contributes to the debate surrounding I4.0 by stressing the organizational and managerial challenges that firms willing to undertake an I4.0 transformation have to face, which goes beyond the sole application of I4.0 technologies. Social implications Entrepreneurs and managers need to be aware that the path toward I4.0 requires not only focusing on the application of the I4.0 technologies, but also on the development of a series of organizational and managerial practices that become key to face the fourth Industrial Revolution. Originality/value The authors posit here that I4.0 requires firms to bridge the capability gap, as well as overcome cultural barriers preventing entrepreneurs and managers to change their way of doing business. To this regard, this study highlights I4.0 is an all-encompassing paradigm that involves many dimensions of the firm.
