Objectives: To give obese patints the motivation to take care of themselves. To help them focus on self perception rather than on their figure and BMI. This study aimed to analyze the impact of dance therapy on the body as subject as experienced by the patient. Methodology: After randomization, 27 female patients undertook a dance therapy program for 16 weeks and were compared against a control group of 19 female patients. The effects on conscious walking, posture, self-esteem and quality of life were measured using questionnaires on self-perception of posture, walk, self-esteem and quality of life. Results: The results after dance therapy showed significant improvement in the body as subject (posture p < 0.02; conscious walking p < 0.001; quality of life p < 0.01; body esteem p < 0.003; and sense of self-worth p < 0.005). The results for the control group had not changed after 16 weeks. Conclusion: after 4 months of dance therapy, obese patients developed a perception of a “body as subject they experience”, which led them to significantly improve their self-esteem and quality of life. Practice implications: Dance therapy should be incorporated into therapeutic education programs to improve the perceptive dimension of our obese patients.

At the Research Clinic for Holistic Medicine in Copenhagen, 43 patients who presented with low or very low self-esteem were treated with psychodynamic short-term therapy complemented with bodywork. They received an average of 20 sessions at a cost of 1,600 EURO. The bodywork helped the patients to confront old emotional pain from childhood trauma repressed to the body-mind. Results showed that 60.5% recovered from low selfesteem (95% CI: 44.41–75.02%). Calculated from this, we have NNT = 1.33–2.25. Almost all aspects of life improved at the same time (p < 0.01): physical health, mental health, quality of life, and ability to function in a number of important areas (partner, friends, sexually, and socially). This indicated that we had successfully induced existential healing (Antonovsky salutogenesis). The strategy of improving self-esteem can be the key to a new life for patients presenting with low quality of life, poor health (physical and/omental), and poor ability to function. The patients were strongly motivated and willing to endure strong emotional pain provoked by the therapy. The rate of recovery is comparable to the most successful interventions with psychological and psychiatric treatment. Clinical holistic treatment has many advantages: efficiency, low cost, lack of negative side effects, lasting results, lack of use of psychopharmacological drugs (often with side effects), and an important preventive dimension.

Abstract This study aims to analyse the effects of indoor physical training program on the enjoyment and the willingness to participate in sports activities, physical self-concept and the quality of life in children with asthma. Participants were randomized in an experimental group (EG) (n=58, age=11.55±1.01 years old) and, a control group (CG) (n = 47, age=11.51±1.42 years old). An indoor training program was executed for 12-week, with each week containing three sessions of 60 minutes. Enjoyment in physical activity questionnaire, participation in physical activities, physical self-concept questionnaire, 6 minute walking test, and paediatric asthma quality of life questionnaire were employed. After the intervention, EG showed a significant reduction in the body mass index as well as a significant improvement in physical fitness test and the score obtained in questionnaires compared to the CG. A12-week indoor training program targeted towards asthmatic children improved the sport enjoyment, physical activity participation, physical self-concept, and quality of life.

Stuttering demands a multidimensional interpretation, as the consequences of the symptoms have been shown in recent years, with psycho-social and psychological effects shown with people living with a stutter far beyond the surface elements. This work explores the degree to which students may stutter with disabilities among school children and adults who stutter (AWS). The effect of stuttering on a person and on the members of the family (siblings, parents and partners) is discussed in this article. Such issues cover mental and social problems, self consciousness, stuttering responses, interpersonal difficulties in everyday situations, and the overall quality of life. The effect of stuttering on the person who shares stuttering with others is illustrated. The explanation of stuttering in children and adolescents who have severe adverse effects from dealing with a stutter mentioned is explored during their existence. The impact of the stuttering condition on the parents and sisters of children who stutter is also discussed with interesting studies about the sense of connection and confidence between young people and their parents. The family obligations and expectations for parents and siblings are stressed. The focus is also on dealing with a person who stutters from their life partner's viewpoint. Presumed quality of life is discussed through unforeseen variations between the adult's quality of life and the expectations of the spouse of the individual. Eventually, there is the potential for a new appreciation and engagement strategy for people who stutter.

We aimed to investigate whether patients with genital warts experience greater feelings of shame and lower self-esteem compared with controls. Sixty patients with genital warts were compared with 60 asymptomatic genitourinary (GU) medicine patients and 60 orthopaedic outpatients. The shame scores of those with warts (31.08) were significantly higher ( P < 0.0001) than either control group (GU medicine controls 20.77; orthopaedic controls 19.00). The impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) by each of the individual emotional parameters of shame, low self-esteem, intrusive thoughts, avoidance behaviour and self-efficacy impact was examined in the wart sample group. Only internalized shame ( P = 0.001) and intrusive thoughts ( P < 0.0001) were significant in predicting HRQoL scores. There are emotional implications in having genital warts, which can have a profound effect on a patient's quality of life and these need addressing just as much as the physical warts.

Musculoskeletal system is a complex assembly of tissues which acts as scaffold for the body and enables locomotion. It is often overlooked that different components of this system may biomechanically interact and affect each other. Skeletal dysplasias are diseases predominantly affecting the development of the osseous skeleton. However, in some cases skeletal dysplasia patients are referred to neuromuscular clinics prior to the correct skeletal diagnosis. The muscular complications seen in these cases are usually mild and may stem directly from the muscle defect and/or from the altered interactions between the individual components of the musculoskeletal system. A correct early diagnosis may enable better management of the patients and a better quality of life. This paper attempts to summarise the different components of the musculoskeletal system which are affected in skeletal dysplasias and lists several interesting examples of such diseases in order to enable better understanding of the complexity of human musculoskeletal system.
