Purpose This study uses the survey method to examine the associations between the three levels of environmental activity management (EAM) (environmental activity analysis, environmental activity cost analysis and environmental activity based costing) with environmental management systems (EMSs), and assesses the effectiveness of these EAM practices and EMSs by examining their associations with both environmental and financial performance. While this study is unable to assert causality, the findings provide an important insight into the need to integrate EMSs and EMA practices, specifically EAM. In addition, the findings provide an initial insight into the relationship between the extent of use of these practices and organisational performance (environmental and financial). Design/methodology/approach Data was collected using a mail survey of 659 manufacturing organisations identified from the Onesource on-line database. A total of 140 completed questionnaires were returned (21.2%), 72 (10.9%) following the initial mail-out, and a further 68 (10.3%) from the follow-up mail-out. Findings In respect to the association between EAM and EMSs, this study provides empirical evidence to support the integration of EAM practices with the use of EMSs, suggesting the relationships between the two is bi-directional. In respect to the association between EMSs with environmental and financial performance, while the extent of use of EMSs is not associated with financial performance, there is strong evidence supporting the positive association between EMSs with environmental performance. Further, while there are minimal results regarding the direct association between the three EAM practices and environmental performance, a cyclical relationship between EAM and financial performance is identified. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature by providing an empirical insight into the relationship between the extent of adoption of EMSs and the use of EMA. The focus on the relationship between EMSs and EMA is pertinent owing to the sparse research on EMA practices and the “importance of using such [EAM] practices and integrating them within the organisation rather than using them on an ad hoc basis” (Phan et al., 2018, p. 657). This study also contributes to the literature by examining the effectiveness of both practices in respect to their association with environmental and financial performance.

The article states that to determine the ability of a specialist to perform official duties and his professionalism, evaluation of employees is used, which allows to identify their professional abilities, highlights personal qualities and prospects, which is especially important for forensic activities. It is emphasized that depending on the purpose and objectives of evaluation in some institutions use different types of evaluation of employees, which are classified on many grounds. The article presents the classification of evaluation methods on such grounds as: features of the subject and the evaluation process itself; by its content; by regularity; depending on the evaluation period; depending on the evaluation criteria; by systematic evaluation; by the subject of evaluation; according to the professional and functional structure of the evaluated. It is stated that the structure of comprehensive evaluation of employees of forensic institutions can be presented in the form of a model that covers three groups of characteristics: the employee in terms of his business and personal qualities; labor (business) behavior; performance of work, its results and outlines the components of each of them. It is established that the method of comprehensive assessment can be used to assess all categories of employees: workers, specialists and managers. However, it is noted that the evaluation of the work of different categories of employees of the forensic institution has its own specific tasks, indicators, methods of identifying and measuring the results of work. It is noted that these problems can be solved using evaluation methods: direct – they are used to evaluate the direct results of the work of specialists and managers, or the results of the work of their subordinate team; indirect – when it is not the result of the activity that is evaluated, but the course of performance of tasks by employees, their realization of their functional responsibilities.

Abstract Learning management systems (LMS) logs all actions taken on the system. These logs provide additional data about the activities and behaviour of users. Educational process mining techniques can use these data to unveil useful information to help instructors, educators and administrators accurately monitor, analyze and improve the online learning patterns of students. This research work presents a framework that uses process mining approach to analyse event log data generated within educational information systems, such as LMSs. In this framework, digital twin concept is employed to present a virtual representation of the students’ activities on the LMS. This framework also used inductive and fuzzy miner algorithms to produce a process model which was represented using virtual model of student’s learning patterns. This model was then evaluated for conformance with the activities observed in the log. The analysis conducted during this study showed the disparity between the behaviours of students that passed a particular course and students that failed the course. Findings also showed that the using the inductive and the fuzzy miner algorithms produced better fitness levels for the process model when compared with other previously used algorithms such as the heuristic miner and alpha miner algorithms. This paper concluded by recommending that the development of educational process mining specific tools can help domain experts better understand students’ learning patterns.

The author based on information from open sources analyzed the foreign experience in the implementation of automated enterprise management systems in 2012–2019. The article identifies the reasons for the introduction of ERP-systems (Enterprise Resourse Planning) in terms of: updating management automation technologies, unification of reporting and simplification of staff work, improving operational efficiency, solving economic growth problems and ensuring competitiveness, as key of directions in business clusters formations. The analysis presents dynamics of deployment of ERP deployment models and the structure of the reasons of enterprises’ refusal to use cloud software deployment models is presented. The dynamics of development of the domestic market of cloud services is revealed. Trends in the choice of approaches to ERP introduction are studied. The types of consulting services provided in the process of implementation of enterprise management automation projects have been analyzed. The assessment of the state of use of ERP in the engineering industry showed the ambiguity of integrated systems that would satisfy their developers, suppliers and ERP-users, due to trends in the implementation of IT in ERP for small and large enterprises, their purchasing capacity and cost parameters. The structure of the reasons for restraint before the deployment of ERP in the cloud was determined, among which the largest shares were insufficient awareness and risks of data loss. It is proved that although the volume of the market of cloud services for enterprises is growing every year, the main factor for the implementation of ERP is the use of IT, which helps to minimize dissatisfaction with the system. The analysis of the key indicators of ERP-systems introduction over the last decade showed significant overspending of time and money on their implementation. However, there are some advantages after the introduction of ERP-systems, which include: improving business efficiency, improving integration between distributed systems, improving customer service, speeding up reporting and standardization, facilitating the work of employees, standardization of basic business operations, reducing circulating (current) assets, etc.
