The study aimed to explore the relationship between cognitive style (impulsivity/reflectivity) and violence. It also aimed to know the significance of some variables, such as gender, place of residence, and type of school, in the cognitive style (impulsivity/reflectivity) and violence among students of tenth grade in the governorate of Ramallah and Al Bireh. The study sample, was randomly selected (N = 190, 86 males and 104 females). The Familiar Figure Test (Faramawi, 1986) and a specifically designed questionnaire to assess violence were used. The results indicated no relationship between impulsivity/reflectivity and violence. However, there were significant differences in cognitive method (impulsivity/reflectivity) due to gender and place of residence. While, there was no significant difference due to school type. There were differences in verbal violence, physical violence and violence toward property attributable to gender and in favour of males. Private schools were more physically violent than public schools.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between participation in minor league Canadian ice hockey and delinquency. Specifically, the study sought to compare the extent of delinquency among ice hockey players and nonathletes, and to examine the relationship between ice hockey participation and delinquency on the basis of a group of sociopsychological variables. The sample of ice hockey players was taken from the Montreal midget minor ice hockey league (15 to 16 years of age) and was further subdivided into local, inter-city, and provincial players. Delinquency was classified by type of offense, namely drugs, theft, physical violence, and vandalism. Data were obtained from anonymous, self-report questionnaires. The results indicated no significant difference in total delinquency between ice hockey players and nonathletes. However, when delinquency was categorized by type, ice hockey players reported more delinquency of a physically violent nature than nonathletes. The results also showed a differential association between a variety of sociopsychological variables and delinquency among ice hockey players and nonathletes

Determination of the relationship between individuals’ cognitive styles and cognitive structure outcomes was the main aim of this study. Sixty-six participants were enrolled in the study and their cognitive styles were determined by using the Hidden Figure Test (for their field dependent/independent dimension of cognitive style) and the Convergent/Divergent Test (for their convergence/divergence dimension of cognitive style). An open-ended questionnaire was formed in order to determine participants’ cognitive structure outcomes. The study topic was chosen as chemical kinetics since it is one of the most difficult topics in chemistry according to many students and also there is limited study in the literature on this topic. Key concepts about chemical kinetics were selected and given to the participants and they were asked to write a text by using the given concepts. A flow map technique was used to reveal participants’ cognitive structure outcomes. According to the findings of this study, it can be said that field independent participants tended to be divergent thinkers while field dependents tended to be convergent thinkers. Also, strong positive relationships between participants’ field dependency/independency and some cognitive structure outcomes (extent and richness) were found. That is, field independents tended to have more extended and richer cognitive structure outcomes. However, the convergence/divergence dimension of cognitive style did not show any correlation with cognitive structure outcomes.

The study aimed at investigating the impact of using the educational robot through the integrative approach on achievement among tenth grade students in trigonometry. To achieve the aims of the study the researchers developed an academic unit adopting the integrated approach by using Educational Robot. The sample of the study consisted of (120) students of the tenth grade students in public schools in the city of Amman, divided equally into two groups: experimental and control. Achievement test in mathematics was used, which were validity and reliability was verified. The results of the study showed a statistically significant difference (α≤0.05) between the averages of the two groups experimental (which used the educational robot) and the control group (which did not use the educational robot) in mathematical achievement in favor of the experimental group. The study did not show an interaction between the use of the educational robot and the gender of the student in the mathematics achievement in the students of the tenth-grade students. In light of the study's findings, the researchers recommend using modern technology tools such as robot to teach mathematics. Keywords: Educational robot, achievement, trigonometry, integrative approach

This study was conducted with the following objectives: 1) to determine the performance ratings of the secondary school teachers as evaluated by their administrators; 2) to establish the relationship between the performance ratings of the secondary school teachers as evaluated by their superiors and their teaching effectiveness as evaluated by their students; and 3) to determine whether or not there is a significant difference in the quality of teaching among the secondary teachers in the different public schools serving as respondents of the study. Spearman Rho Correlation Coefficient was used to establish the relationship between the secondary teachers' ratings in the RPAST and their teaching effectiveness. The study revealed that 1) the average performance efficiency ratings were 87.61, 82.40, and 65.71 for INHS, KNHS and TNHS, respectively, with descriptive equivalents of very satisfactory for INHS and KNHS and satisfactory for TNHS, 2) there was no correlation between the performance ratings of the secondary teachers and their teaching effectiveness as perceived by students because of the lower ratings from the students compared to the higher ratings given by the administrators to their teachers; and 3) there was a significant difference in the quality of teaching among the secondary teachers in the three public schools service as respondents of the study.

PURPOSE: To compare children with typical language development (TLD) and evolutional phonological disorder (EPD) regarding the phonemic discrimination and the linguistic performance of language levels (morphological, syntactic, semantic, and perceptual and productive vocabulary). METHODS: The sample comprised 36 children, aged between 5 years and 7 years and 11 months, with TLD and EPD. Children with EPD were awaiting care in the speech units of two higher education institutions and children with TLD were screened in public schools. For inclusion in the study, the criteria were the following: being authorized by the informed consent and being within the required age group. After the inclusion of children, all subjects underwent the phonemic discrimination test with figures, to the average phrase value test, which assesses the morphosyntactic and semantic/lexical aspects, and the expressive vocabulary test. For statistical evaluation of the influence of variables, Spearman's nonparametric correlation coefficient was used, and for comparison between the groups regarding evaluation performance, Mann-Whitney test was used. RESULTS: Only children with EPD showed influence of phonemic discrimination in other linguistic levels. In addition, a significant difference was observed between the performances of both groups in relation to the phonemic discrimination, vocabulary, and all levels assessed in the questions and description modality. CONCLUSION: The comparison between both groups showed a statistically significant difference in phonemic discrimination and morphosyntactic and lexical/semantic development, with better performance in the TLD group.

This study examines the relationship between anxiety and cognitive style, as measured on the Stroop Color-Word Test. A sample of 253 respondents, selected on the basis of their anxiety scores, were administered the Stroop Test and Kuwait University Anxiety Scale (KUAS). The subjects were divided into two groups, the most and the least anxious, depending upon their anxiety scores on the KUAS. The results showed no significant difference between the most and least anxious groups in cognitive style, indicating increased interference in both groups. These findings suggest the susceptibility of both groups to constricted cognitive style, and their propensity to interference effects on the Stroop test.

The emergence of the increases in the rate of different social vices among the adolescents in high schools calls for re-evaluation and updating of the existing operating counselling services in secondary schools' educational system. The study examined the challenges of the newly qualified school counsellors and the solution proffered. Six research questions were raised to guide the study. It adopted a mixed-method research approach.  The results of the findings revealed that the lack of recognition of the role of counsellors in the school system was rated the highest among the challenges experienced by newly-qualified counsellors, non-referral of students who need to be sent to a counsellor by teachers was rated second. From the findings of the study of the awareness campaign on the importance of counselling through various media, the finding “more time should be allotted to practicum for counsellors in training” was the highest-rated as the solution to the challenges experienced by newly-qualified counsellors. The results obtained from the study also revealed that male counsellors might be experiencing different challenges from their female counterparts. The results of the study also show a significant difference in the challenges experienced by newly qualified counsellors based on school type. The findings revealed that there is a significant difference in the solution provided by newly qualified counsellors based on gender. The results also show that the solution provided by a counsellor from private schools does not differ from that of their public schools’ counterpart. Based on the findings of the study recommendations were made: government should provide public enlightenment programmes to parents, school administrators, teachers, and students through jingles, posters, billboards on the need to embrace counselling in the school system and make use of the facility. National University commission should revise the counsellor training programme and increase the period allocated for practicum for the counsellor in training in order to equip them for the tasks ahead. Keywords: challenges, solutions, experiences, newly qualified counsellors

The aim of this study is to determine the level of achievement goals and teacher engagement of Turkish teachers and the relationship between them if any. Accordingly, the study was conducted with Turkish teachers working in an eastern city and its districts and villages in the school year of 2017-2018. The data were collected using “3x2 Achievement Goal Questionnaire for Teachers” adapted into Turkish by Yerdelen and Padır (2017) and “Engaged Teachers Scale” developed by Yerdelen, Klassen and Durksen (2017). Sixty eight Turkish teachers participated in the study. According to the obtained results, it was determined that achievement goals and teacher engagement of Turkish teachers were moderate in general. In addition, it was found that the variable of gender did not show any significant difference and there were significant correlations between the achievement goals and teacher engagement. Finally, achievement goals was a predictor of teacher engagement; on the other hand, working year and type of school studied did not predict teacher engagement.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of experiencing intra-familial violence among Mexican and Egyptian youth and to describe its associated risk factors. METHODS: Data from questionnaires applied to 12,862 Mexican and 5,662 Egyptian youth, aged 10 to 19, who attended public schools were analyzed. Biviarate and logistic regression analysis were used to determine the relationship between socio-demographics, the experience of intra-familial violence and violence perpetration. RESULTS: The prevalence of having experienced intra-familial violence was comparable across the Mexican and Egyptian populations (14% and 17%, respectively). In Mexico, young men were more likely to have experienced such violence (OR=2.36) than women, whereas in Egypt, young women were at slightly greater risk than young men (OR=1.25). Older age, male gender and urban residence were independent correlates of experiencing intra-familial violence among Mexican youth. For Egyptian adolescents, in contrast, younger age, female gender and having non-married parents were independent correlates of victimization. Intra-familial violence victims were also more likely than non-victims to perpetrate violence (Mexico: OR=13.13; Egypt: OR=6.58). CONCLUSIONS: Mexican and Egyptian youth experienced intra-familial violence at a relatively low prevalence when compared with youth of other countries. A strong association was found between experiencing intra-familial violence and perpetrating violence.
