This paper is an attempt to study Siddhartha’s spiritual quest for self-knowledge in psychological perspective. It is meant to explore how far and in what ways is the mystical experience on par with secondary integration of personality that occurs only in the wake of the disintegration of several existing psychological structures. The protagonist’s act of overcoming ego-consciousness and disassociating himself with the social labels and ultimately realizing his ‘self’ are analyzed psychologically using Kazimierz Dabrowski’s theory of positive disintegration as a conceptual framework. Herman Hesse’s novel Siddhartha is selected for the study, and textual analysis is employed as a tool to analyse the text culling the relevant passages as evidence. The study reveals that the protagonist of the novel achieves higher level of personality development and the previously held assumptions which confuse spirituality with psychic disorders are overruled. It also asserts the validity of mystical experiences as higher form of consciousness yielding wisdom allowing mystics to transcend the temporal cum spatial barriers thereby elevating to the level of humanity. This paper suggests that the study of different mystical traditions may well lead to one’s personal development and may prove a step towards gaining maturity.Keywords: Mysticism, mystical experience, self-realization, positive disintegration, secondary integration.  Cite as: Imran, M., Bhatti, A. The relationship between psychology and mysticism has gained a great deal of currency over the years. Various psychological models have provided theoretical foundations allowing the researchers to grasp profound varieties and nuances in mystical experiences across cultures and religious traditions. This has, in fact, broadened the canvass for mystical studies. The current paper attempts to carry out a psychological analysis of mystical experience of a character (mystic) named Kimya in Muriel Maufroy’s novel “Rumi’s Daughter”. The study carries out an analysis of how the mystic’s experience of the Divine can be translated in terms of a psychological process of personality disintegration initiated by a conflict, deconstruction of preconceived notions and beliefs and ultimately leading towards secondary integration of personality. Kazimierz Dabrowski’s theory of positive disintegration is employed as a framework to analyse her spiritual encounter. Through a minute textual analysis of the novel, the research reveals certain parallels between the process of personality development and mystical experience. It confirms the contention that the culmination of mystical union underlies psychological wellbeing and serenity on the part of mystic. The study also shows that mystics are those rare individuals who are capable of reaching the final level of personality development characterised by self-autonomy and higher level of consciousness.

Mysticism presents, amidst others, a unique worldview to unfold the cosmic mysteries through experiential ways, often rendering mystical experiences somewhat subjective and elusive. This makes it highly pertinent to delve into the human psyche, which is the fountainhead of such experiences. Psychology offers theoretical tools, thereby enabling researchers to resolve riddles at one hand and enriching their understanding on the other. It is almost in the same vein that the current research is carried out, namely analyzing mystical experience from a psychological perspective. The paper contends that the culmination of a mystic's experience of the Divine is equated with his psychological wellbeing and emotional development. Drawing on Kazimierz Dabrowski's theory of positive disintegration, the researchers study a literary text, The Forty Rules of Love, written by Elif Shafak. The findings of this research lead to a nullification of the confusion of mystical experiences with psychological disorders.

The article deals with the influence of social factors on the development of I. I. Mechnikov’s personality. The implementation of historical and psychological analysis and social and valuable factors that influenced the formation of the scientist's views have a great importance for building an optimal sociocultural environment in which there is an effective development of abilities and genius of the child. Creating conditions for personal development is one of the priority contemporary challenge. The process of I. I. Mechnykov’s personality formation has been considered in the article. The main purpose of the article is to study the main social factors that influenced the development of I. I. Mechnykov’s personality in the process of growth. Theoretical and biographical methods have been used in the article. Attention has been paid to the factors of the social spectrum which could influence the formation of the outstanding scientist’s views. The Mechnykov family have been covered in social and historical conditions. The peculiarities of the educational system in the years of I. I. Mechnykov’s studies and its influence on the development of his personality have been researched. The influence of the academic staff on the formation of I. I. Mechnykov’s professional interests and views has been analysed. The interests of Illia Ilich which directly influenced the formation of the future scientist’s worldview have been also analysed. The factors that influenced the formation of I. I. Mechnykov’s worldview have been studied. It has been found out that the formation of I. I. Mechnykov’s personality was influenced significantly by his family, educational environment and development of the scientific sphere. The main factors that influenced the development of I. I. Mechnykov’s personality were identified as: a noble origin; higher education at the country’s leading university; the influence of prominent scientists who taught at the university; an active position in the educational process, a close interaction with teaching staff; an active participation in university research; the ability to choose one’s own trajectory and pace of learning independently.

The article discusses the main factors of personal development and the dynamics of their role in the modern world. It is shown that an organized system of education, a teacher, is no longer a priority source of personal development: such a source is the electronic media that are today having a mostly negative impact on personal development. The paper considers the prognosis of the new trends in personality development: decentralization of the universities functioning; identification as the main source of personal development via electronic information sources; development, active use of educational films and video courses, the formation of positive stereotypes of mental activity in the individual. It is substantiated that the answer to the question of what and how to teach in a higher education institution autonomously is impossible, without analyzing the role of various sources of personality development and, in particular, a detailed philosophical, sociological, and psychological analysis of the role of modern electronic means for the formation of personality.

This chapter draws upon Sri Ramakrishna’s teachings and mystical testimony in order to develop a new conceptual framework for understanding the nature of mystical experience. In recent analytic philosophy of religion, two approaches to mystical experience have been especially influential: perennialism and constructivism. While perennialists maintain that there is a common core of all mystical experiences across various cultures, constructivists claim that a mystic’s cultural conditioning plays a major role in shaping his or her mystical experiences. After identifying the strengths and limitations of these two positions, Maharaj argues that Sri Ramakrishna champions a “manifestationist” approach to mystical experience that provides a powerful dialectical alternative to both perennialism and constructivism. According to Sri Ramakrishna, mystics in various traditions experience different real manifestations of one and the same impersonal-personal Infinite Reality. Sri Ramakrishna’s manifestationist paradigm shares the advantages of both perennialism and constructivism but avoids their respective weaknesses and limitations.

The purpose of this study is to build the framework about the influence of families on the formation and personality development of elementary school students in Vietnam. The research results show that there are 5 contents and 5 methods in family education that are commonly used by parents of students in urban areas of Vietnam where economic and social conditions are common. With a traditional Confucian education background, Vietnamese families always give a lot of attention to their children. However, the fact that the “excessive” care of Vietnamese parents negatively affects the personal development of elementary school age children. Besides, the paper contributes to the literature on the role of family education in Vietnam in the development of elementary school student character.

Although sport is widely utilised as a tool for personal development, capacity building, and fostering peace, there are still numerous theoretical gaps in our knowledge about how sport influences individuals’ identities, and how this translates into their everyday lives. Within the academic literature there has been seemingly little focus placed upon participants’ emotional and embodied accounts of their sport-for-development (SfD) experiences. This paper uses phenomenologically-inspired theory to explore individuals’ lived experiences of a SfD course, and their descriptions of the social interactions and feelings of confidence they encountered, in order to address this lack of experiential data. An ethnographic methodology was used to collect data through four sports leadership course observations, and cyclical interviews over 4–10 months with eleven course attendees, plus individual interviews with five tutors. Participants’ understandings of their course experiences and the subsequent influence these understandings had on their lives were described through their use of the term confidence. A further phenomenological and sociological interrogation of this term enabled confidence to be seen as being experienced as a ‘frame’ and ‘through the body’ by participants. This study provides original conceptualisations of confidence in relation to participants’ SfD experiences, as well as important discussions regarding the role of emotions and embodiment in understanding the impact of SfD on participants’ everyday lives.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of billions of people worldwide. Individuals and groups were compelled to construct theories of common sense about the disease to communicate and guide practices. The theory of social representations provides powerful concepts to analyse the psychosocial construction of COVID-19. This study aimed to understand the social representations of COVID-19 constructed by middle-class Brazilian adults and their ideological implications, providing a social-psychological analysis of these phenomena while the pandemic is still ongoing. We adopted a qualitative approach based on semi-structured in-depth interviews conducted online in April-May 2020. Participants were 13 middle-class Brazilians living in urban areas. We analysed the interviews with thematic analysis and a phenomenological approach. The social representations were organised around three themes: 1) a virus originated in human actions and with anthropocentric meanings (e.g., a punishment for the human-led destruction of the environment); 2) a dramatic disease that attacks the lungs and kills people perceived to have “low immunity”; and 3) a disturbing pandemic that was also conceived as a correction event with positive consequences. The social representations included beliefs about the individualistic determination of immunity, the attribution of divine causes to the pandemic, and the need for the moral reformation of humankind. The discussion highlights the ideological implications of these theories of common sense. Socially underprivileged groups are at greater COVID-19-related risk, which the investigated social representations may contribute to conceal and naturalise.

Проблема формирования правосознания исследуется авторами в контексте социально-личностного развития детей дошкольного возраста. Ориентация на принципы гуманизации обусловили объективную потребность в формировании нравственных и правовых представлений детей дошкольного возраста для формирования социального поведения. Выявлены пробелы в психолого-педагогических методах и технологиях, необходимо расширить педагогическое содержание и критериальный инструментарий. Цель статьи: выявить уровень, компоненты и структуру правосознания у детей старшего дошкольного возраста и на этой основе разработать модель формирования правосознания в условиях дошкольной образовательной организации. Авторами представлены основные компоненты правосознания, их эмпирические показатели и функции с опорой на особенности детей дошкольного возраста. Разработана модель формирования правосознания у детей дошкольного возраста как системная организация заявленного психолого-педагогического процесса с циклической оценкой результативности. Статья будет полезна педагогам, исследователям, работникам дошкольного образования, родителям детей дошкольного возраста. The problem of the formation of legal consciousness is studied by the authors in the context of the social and personal development of preschool children. Orientation to the principles of humanization caused an objective need for the formation of moral and legal representations of preschool children for the formation of social behavior. Gaps in psychological and pedagogical methods and technologies have been identified, it is necessary to expand the pedagogical content and criteria tools. The purpose of the article is to identify the level, components and structure of legal awareness in older preschool children and, on this basis, to develop a model for the formation of legal awareness in the conditions of a preschool educational organization. The authors present the main components of legal awareness, their empirical indicators and functions based on the characteristics of preschool children. A model of the formation of legal awareness in preschool children as a systematic organization of the declared psychological and pedagogical process with a cyclic assessment of effectiveness is developed. The article will be useful for teachers, researchers, preschool education workers, parents of preschool children.
