Abstract Background: HF is a burden on healthcare resources due to the high cost of frequent readmissions. Predictive models have been reported for the post-discharge prognosis of HF. However, these models mostly included non-modifiable factors and their predictive accuracy was limited. This implies that potentially modifiable factors are needed, which could be attributed to the discharge process. This study aimed to explore the relationship between the discharge process and post-discharge events in patients with HF.Methods: Medical records were reviewed to identify patients who were admitted for HF exacerbation. Information related to the discharge process included post-discharge clinic appointments, educational contents before discharge, and family participation during patient education. HF-related events were defined as a composite of events, including emergency department visits, readmissions, or death. A multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to explore the association between the discharge process and HF-related events. Results: Of 201 patients, 41 had at least one HF-related event. Post-discharge clinic appointments were scheduled 8 days after discharge. Patients received their discharge education on average of one topic, and approximately the families of 70% of the patients participated in this educational activity. In the Cox regression model, family participation during education was independently associated with a longer time to HF events (hazard ratio: 2.105). However, and post-discharge follow-up appointments and the number of educational contents received were not associated with the time to HF events. Conclusion: We found that family participation during education is a protective factor for adverse prognosis in patients with HF. Our results highlight the importance of family engagement in HF management.

The purpose of this study is to explore the curriculum and educational contents of four Korean universities that are educating or plan to educate their students in the Digital Humanities, as well as to find and develop Digital Humanities classes suitable for one semester within their liberal arts education classes. As a result of the survey, the four universities were classified according to the affiliation of the students’ subject at each school and the level of programming related to data processing. A and B universities’ Digital Humanities major students were predominantly from liberal arts majors, C universities students consisted both of liberal arts and science and engineering majors, and D universities students’ majors were science and engineering. Universities from group A used basic Google apps and Excel, but D universities used higher-level programming languages. However, Digital Humanities classes at these universities are based on a three-step course: First, education involving basic concepts for Digital Humanities and basic tools for data analysis. Second, search for applicability to Digital Humanities through existing majors. Third, the practical application and creation of the Digital Humanities project. Accordingly, this study sought ways to effectively convey this three-step process in the short period of one semester and devised a detailed lecture outline.

In the New Courses of Study revised in March 2017, the contents of safety education, including disaster prevention, were significantly enhanced compared with the previous Courses of Study (2008). This can be attributed to the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and an increase in the frequency of subsequent natural disasters, as well as changes in the education curriculum stipulated by the Courses of Study, such as the introduction of active learning. Associated with this change, in the field of education, contents that conform to the curriculum of each subject are required. In this research, we first focus on how the contents of the Courses of Study related to disaster prevention have changed in recent years, and discuss what drove the change. In addition, we classify and analyze, in terms of elementary schools, the system of the educational contents related to disaster prevention included in the New Courses of Study. By visualizing the contents of our classification and analysis, we indicate the scope of disaster prevention covered by the New Courses of Study in the field of disaster prevention. Subsequently, we propose ways to manage the scope of disaster prevention in disaster prevention learning in consideration of the comprehensiveness to address the problem.

Education on proper asthma self-management is important in the management of asthma. It is a strategy to improve the quality of life and clinical outcomes of asthmatics. In this modern era, almost all digital contents, including health promotion and patient education, can be simply carried out through a smartphone app. Unfortunately, not all patients accept this approach. A well-validated method, known as the Technology Acceptance Model, was adopted to ensure the acceptance of the contents by users, in this case, patients. This study aimed to determine the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use in the patient acceptance of educational contents of an asthma self-management app, known as AsmaDroid. The design of this study was an explanatory model with a quantitative approach. The respondents were asthmatics with the following criteria: aged 19–22 years old, having a history of asthma, and having installed and used the AsmaDroid app for a month. The purposive sampling approach was adopted with 100 study respondents, and the instruments of the study were AsmaDroid and a TAM questionnaire. Additionally, a descriptive statistic was also adopted with the use of multiple linear regression to prove the study hypothesis. The results of this study showed that both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use had a positive and significant effect on the user or patient acceptance, with a significant value of 0.00 and 0.02, respectively. This study concluded that asthma educational contents in AsmaDroid provided benefits and convenience for users. Therefore, the educational contents were accepted as an alternative medium to learn asthma self-management.
