In discussing the water quality evaluation for use in different purposes, the author will briefly examine some of the major important water quality standards. These standards serve as a basis for appraisal of the results of chemical water analysis in terms of suitability of the water for various intended uses. According to total dissolved salts (TDS),  major  ions as cations ( Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+), anions (CO₃2⁻, HCO₃⁻  ,SO₄2⁻, Cl⁻), with some heavy metals such as Al3+, B3+ , Cd2+, Co2+, Cr3+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Mn2+,  Mo2+, Ni2+,  Pb2+, Sr2+, V2+   and Zn2+  The results  indicate  that  the samples of Nubian sandstone aquifer is suitable for drinking of human and livestock , suitable for laundry purposes and for irrigation. While the samples of Fractured dolomite limestone aquifer are unsuitable for drinking and irrigation.

Various samples of groundwater were collected from different areas of Kandarvakottai and Karambakudi of Pudukkottai District, Tamilnadu and analyzed for their physicochemical characteristics. The results of this analysis were compared with the water quality standards of ISI, WHO and CPHEEO. In this analysis the various physicochemical parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, total dissolved solids, Cl-, F-, SO42-, PO43-, NO3-, NO2-, CN-, Nas+, K+, NH3, Mn, Fe, Ca & Mg hardnessetc., were determined using standard procedures. The quality of groundwater samples were discussed with respect to these parameters and thus an attempt were made to ascertain the quality of groundwater used for drinking and cooking purposes in and around Kandarvakottai and Karambakudi areas.

AbstractThe aim of this study is to evaluate the hydrogeochemical characteristics and water environmental quality of shallow groundwater in the Suxian mining area of Huaibei coalfield, China. The natural formation process of shallow groundwater in Suxian is explored using Piper trilinear charts and Gibbs diagrams, and by examining the ratios between the major ions. United States Salinity Laboratory (USSL) charts, Wilcox diagrams, and the water quality index (WQI) are further employed to quantify the differences in water quality. The results reveal that the main hydrochemical facies of groundwater are HCO3–Ca, and that silicate dissolution is the main factor controlling the ion content in shallow groundwater. The USSL charts and Wilcox diagrams show that most of the water samples would be acceptable for use in irrigation systems. The WQI results for each water sample are compared and analyzed, and the quality of groundwater samples around collapse ponds is found to be relatively poor.

Research has been conducted to determine the quality of shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) and the local communities opinions around the landfill Suwung. The method of determining the station was done by purposive sampling, where the station sampling was determined by selecting a place which was expected to represent the whole area.Water sampling of dug-wells was conducted by using a water sampler and the shallow bore-wells using a 2-liter bottle. Data was analyzed by descriptive comparative referenceto class I water quality of the Bali Governor Regulation No.8 of 2007. The public opinion data was obtained by using aquesioner filled by respondents who have and use wells and shallow bore wells for their daily needsand it was analyzed by using frequency distribution tables.The results showed that the quality of shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) did not meet water quality standards in accordance with the rules of the class defined in the Governor of Bali Regulation No. 8 of 2007. The water pollution index (PI) of dug-wells at a distance of 1-400 meters was in hearily polluted category, while water fromshallow bore-wells drilled at a distance of 1-200 meters was in the category of hearily polluted and at a distance of 201-400 meters was in the category of medium polluted.There was an increasing range of groundwater quality deterioration in 1997, 2008 and 2014. In 1997, contaminated shallow groundwater has occured at a distance of 80 meters, while in 2008, the pollution has occurred up to a distance of 375 meters and in the year of 2014 the contamination occurred from a distance of 1 meter to 400 meters. The average of score Pollution Index (PI) of Water wells in the year of 2008 amounted to 14.55, while in 2014 up to 15.44. It is estimated that the water quality of dug-wells and bore-wells will meet the quality standards in accordance with the value of the pollution index at a distance of over 5000 meters and 750 meters of the Suwung landfill waste.Most of the respondents who live in the vicinity Suwung landfill waste tend to give an opinion that the shallow groundwater (dug-wells and shallow bore-wells) has decreased quality as drinking water. Approximately 75% of respondents thought that the well water in their environment has been reduced in quality.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the ground water quality and salinity issues in the fast developing coastal urban lands of two river basins of Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, South India. Design/methodology/approach In order to address the water quality of the basins, field sampling was conducted and the samples were analysed in the laboratory. A comparison with water quality standards was also made and the interpretations of the results were done using GIS and statistical tools. Findings The values of conductivity, chlorides and salinity show that the coastal areas of Neyyar and Karamana basins are severely affected by salinity intrusion in addition to the pollution problems. More than 90 per cent of the samples are with hardness lower than 100 mg/l. About 70 per cent of the study area is with calcium concentrations lower than 25 mg/l. The content of sulphate and magnesium in Poovar and Poonthura coastal stretches is found to be higher compared to other regions. Originality/value Since not much work has been published from the study area on these aspects, the hydrochemical characterization is a very important in deciphering the quality of ground water for its proper management. The water quality evaluation and salinity intrusion studies are very important for the future planning and development of this area.

The lack of clean water distribution by local water service (PDAM) of Palangka Raya city is the major reason for people around the final processing site/landfill (Tempat Pemrosesan Akhir) at Km 14 to use groundwater for their daily life. The landfill may cause pollution over groundwater known as leachate, which commonly unnoticed by its users. This study aims at assessing the quality of groundwater in that area. The groundwater was taken at different distances from the site in three rainless-days. The physical, chemical and biology parameters of groundwater are observed in the field (in situ) and analyzed in the laboratory, refers to water quality standard of Class I, according to Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001 and Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017. Public opinion on that issue is cached through interview. The results showed that the groundwater around the landfill in three rainless-days was harmless to be consumed as drinking water, and did not exceed the water quality standards stipulated by government in term of odorless, tasteless, and colorless. Some indicators also show that the groundwater meets the specified quality standards, i.e. TDS (17-68.14 mg/L), DHL (17,15-69.39 ?s), turbidity (0.11-2.50 mg/L), iron (0.227-0.71 mg/L), manganese (<0.0123-0.02 mg/L), coliform (<1.8-280 MPN/100 ml), while Pb and H2S were not detected. From community side, there are no any health complaints arise as long as they use the water.

Pendahuluan : Air merupakan sumber daya alam yang dilukan untuk hajat hidup orang banyak (Efendi, 2003). Berdasarkan . Men. Kes. No. 492/MENKES//IV/2010, bahwa air minum adalah air yang melalui proses pengolahan atau tanpa pengolahan memenuhi syarat kesehatan dapat langsung diminum. Desa Kukuh, Kecamatan Marga, Kabupaten Tabanan terbagi menjadi 8 banjar dinas, salah satunya adalah banjar dinas Tatag yang menjadi pusat dalam pemanfaatan sumber mata air minum pada wilayah desa tersebut. Metode: Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif tentang uji kelayakan kualitas air berdasarkan parameter kimia dan mikrobiologi dari sumber mata air di Desa Kukuh, Kecamatan Marga, Kabupaten Tabanan. Hasil: Hasil identifikasi kelayakan kualitas air minum yang telah dilakukan sebanyak tiga kali pengujian, yaitu pada bulan (Mei, Juli, September) pada tahun 2018 memberikan hasil: a). Pemeriksaan parameter kimia menunjukkan bahwa seluruh parameter yang diujikan berada pada standar yang dibolehkan, sedangkan b). Pemeriksaan parameter mikrobiologi menunjukkan hasil adanya kandungan bakteri Fecal coli pada sampel mata air dengan jumlah rata-rata 100 Fecal coli/100 mL. Diskusi : Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi pada parameter kimia menunjukkan bahwa hasil identifikasi parameter kimia telah sesuai dengan standar kualitas air minum, sedangkan parameter mikrobiologi belum memenuhi standar kualitas air minum disebabkan adanya kandungan bakteri Fecal coli pada sampel mata air dengan jumlah rata-rata  100 Fecal coli/100 mL. Kata Kunci : Kualitas mata air, Parameter Kimia, Parameter Mikrobiologi.   ABSTRACT Introduction: Water is a natural resource needed for the livelihood of many people. Drinking water is water with or without processing that meet health requirements and can be drunk directly, this is based on . Men Kes No. 492/MENKES//IV/2010. Kukuh Village, Marga District, Tabanan Regency is divided into 8 banjar dinas, one of which is the Banjar Tagtag, which is the center of the utilization of drinking water sources in the village area. Method: The type of research used is a descriptive study of the feasibility of water quality based on chemical and microbiological parameters on water from a spring source in Kukuh Village, Marga District, Tabanan Regency. Results: The results of the identification of the feasibility of drinking water quality that has been carried out three times tn the month of May, July, and September. The results of the identification of chemical and microbiological parameters were  : a). Chemical parameters, showed that all identified parameters are at the missible level. c). Microbiological parameters showed the results of Fecal coli contents in spring samples with and an average number of 100 Fecal coli/100 mL. Discussion: The results of the identification of chemical and microbiological parameters indicated that the identification of chemical parameters were in accordance with drinking water quality standards, while the microbiological parameters did not meet drinking water quality standards, because in the water sample there was the content of Fecal coli bacteria in the spring samples with and average number of 100 Fecal coli/100 mL. This study is mainly focused on detail hydrogeochemical study and water quality test of inorganic constitutes for drinking and irrigation purposes. The study area occupies part of the Siwalik and the Terai with total area of 331 sq. km. Total 30 samples were analysed at applied geology and hydrogeology laboratory, Ghent University, Belgium. The major cations (Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Fe2+, Mn2+, Al3+ and NH4+), anions (Cl-, SO42-, NO3-, NO2-, HCO3-, CO32-, PO43-, and OH-) and trace elements (F- and Br-) were measured. Results were treated using Piper diagram, Scatter diagram and Stuyfzand (1986) classification of groundwater. It showed that groundwater of the study area was slightly acidic to basic in nature. Ca2+ and Mg2+ and HCO3- were major cations and anion for all samples. The sources of these ions in the water were from dissolution of calcite (CaCO3) and dolomite CaMg (CO3)2. The amount of Na+ and K+ was from hydrolysis reaction of silicate minerals such as K-feldspar and Na-feldspar. Small concentration of SO4-2 was from oxidation of pyrite. Most of the samples (27 out of 30) were fresh, moderately hard, CaHCO3 water type with surplus of (Na++K++Mg2+). Water of the study area was found suitable both for drinking and irrigation purposes in accordance with WHO (2004) and National Drinking Water Quality Standards (2005).

Background: Today possibility of rendering water non-potable by various types of contaminants (physical, chemical and biological) is of considerable importance. It is not only the microbial con­taminants but also the physical and chemical contaminants, playing an important role in compro­mising our health in many ways. The aim of this study was to assess the physical, chemical and the microbiological quality of commercially produced bottled water in Pokhara city. Methods: A study was conducted to assess the quality of bottled drinking water produced in Pokhara city. Total of 21 brands of bottled water was collected, first batch in monsoon season and second batch in pre-monsoon season, from the market. The physical, chemical and microbial as­sessment was carried out as per National Drinking Water Quality Standards, 2062. Coefficient of variation and t-test were applied where applicable. Results: Better water quality was found in Pre-monsoon season than that of monsoon season, in regard to microbial assessment. None of the samples in first batch tested positive for coliform whereas in second batch 38.2% of samples tested positive for coliform. Coefficient of variation for pH and chloride content was, 8.9% and 6.1%, 35.6% and24.19%, in pre-monsoon and monsoon season respectively. Both were found to be statistically significant. While other tested parameters were within normal limits. Conclusions: The quality bottled drinking water available for sale do not meet the standards given by National Drinking Water Quality Standards, particularly the microbial quality.

The quality of coastal ground water on small islands has characteristics that are influenced by environmental and area factors. Yeben Island is a small island with an area of 0.57 km2 with priority coastal and marine tourism areas in the islands of Raja Ampat. This study aims to (1) analyze levels of ground water quality parameters and (2) analyze water samples against water quality standards. Groundwater samples taken as many as 4 samples from the study location. The location of water samples is in the morphology of the coastal plain. The analysis of each physical and chemical parameter of each groundwater sample is carried out by comparing the value of drinking water quality standards. The results are presented in a comparison table of quality standards and a graph of scaled values.Based on the results, the laboratory shows that it exceeds the quality standard of physical elements and chemical elements including fluoride, hardness, sulfate and organic substances. In general, the quality of water is poor. Poor ground water quality occurs due to the influence of sea water intrusion.
