AbstractBackgroundThe usage of intelligent personal assistants (IPA), such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant is increasing significantly, and voice-interaction is relevant for workflows in a business context.ObjectivesThis research aims to determine IPA characteristics to evaluate the usefulness of specific functions in a simulated production system of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. A new function called explanation-mode is introduced to the scientific community and business world.Methods/ApproachAs part of a design science research, an artefact, i.e. an add-on for speech-interaction in business software, was developed and evaluated using a survey among ERP users and researchers.ResultsIn the area of IPA-features, the search-function and speech input for textual fields were recognised as most useful. The newly introduced feature, the explanation mode, was positively received too. There is no significant correlation between the usefulness of features and participant-characteristics, affinity to technology or previous experience with IPAs in a private context, which is in line with previous studies in the private environment leading to the conclusion that the task attraction is the most important element for usefulness.ConclusionsMost of the participants agreed that the speech-input is not able to fully substitute standard input devices, such as a keyboard or a mouse, so the IPA is recognised as an addition to traditional input methods. The usefulness is rated high especially for speech-input for long text fields, calling up masks and search-functions.

Data quality is widely considered as a very serious problem for the majority of companies due to the specificities of each business context and the lack of adapted solutions. We present in this paper the benefits of a Model-Driven Architecture (MDA) in ensuring the interconnection of different business contexts’ specifications by providing a linked structure of models. This enables to generate bridges that connect implementations in different platforms. In this way, the systems interoperability can be satisfied throughout product lifecycle. The MDA approach is widely considered as a methodology for software generation from models, with a focus on enterprise and business models. Deploying a MDA approach in the supply chain context of vaccine industry allows us to deal with product data quality. In fact, it helps to translate some business models at a computer independent model through the MDA framework to generate a newly data model as well as some business rules and recommendations helping to communicate data models. To ensure the quality of product data in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), the new generated data model is compared with the one of the ERP and proposed mapping rules are structured through a data reference model. Finally, three levels of reference frames are proposed to ensure the share and the traceability of generated metadata in order to ensure the evolution of defined models and preserve product data quality throughout its lifecycle.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is the process of optimizing the performance of enterprise business processes through the utilization of integrated IT-based solutions. Such systems are mostly based on best practices gained through years of software analysis, design and deployment in the competitive markets. Planning for enterprise-wide system implementation requires all of the stakeholders to integrate views on considering strategic approaches toward a unified vision on how to develop and improve the collaborative ERP implementation planning process. This paper develops a framework which critically evaluates the final implementation plan based on considerations taken in design science methodology. Using the guidelines provided in this methodology, managers gain the capability of evaluating the overall artifact of planning in the total value system, and also gain the ability to measure the progress of ERP implementation plan based on the provided indicators.

The existing studies of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) are primarily focusing on the adoption and implementation stages, the post-implementation stage has received less attention in comparison. However, most enterprises have been struggling under the post-implementation stage. This work aims to review the state-of-the-art issues of ERP in the post-implementation stage, including communication, legacy system, collaboration, and the manager is hard to monitor the performance. Based on the Design Science (DS) method, we highlight how to offset the lack of an ERP system and ECS according to the guidelines of DS, and show the exhaustive steps for implementing the artifact-SuccERP. Our research is rigorous and interpretive by considering the steps of the DS and the functions of Software Engineering. Further, we explore multiple ERP systems to summarize the difference in authentication, initial data, and specific procedures aspects, after that, we consider the two most popular procedures (order creation and bill of purchase creation) as examples to demonstrate and evaluate the proposed artifact—SuccERP in the result. We propose the complete and practical research for solving the issues from previous theoretical results of an ERP, and to show experimentally that the proposed SuccERP is easy to maintain by applying the Cyclomatic Complexity and the Maintainability Index as metrics. This study is a milestone that allows ERP research to move from the theoretical stage to integrating, creating things that serve a human purpose, and dealing with the issues presented by previous works practically.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is an important innovation, affecting the business world by generating improvements both tangible and intangible in large companies and small and medium enterprises (SME). This study focuses on the determinants of success and the advantages of the adoption of this technology. To address these points, a comprehensive literature survey was carried out in order to formulate an original research model for ERP success evaluation and provide a prospect for IT infrastructure and integration. The model, thus suggested and taken within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) context, examines in a systematic approach the relation between the ERP acceptance determinants, the effects of the process of ERP systems diffusion, and the impacts expected on organizational performance. Obtained results underline two key determinants of ERP projects success: First, the preponderance of information control and the improvement in the use of competences. The second factor is the quality of team projects, the definition of team’s mission, training, business processes reengineering, user acceptance, top management support and the selection of the ERP solution.

Workflows are common in today’s business world, and are an integral part of current enterprise content management, product lifecycle management, and enterprise resource planning systems. When a task assignee does not complete a task on time, workflow systems are commonly configured to send out reminders. Reminders are a form of intervention in the workflow. It is tacitly assumed that workflow intervention is effective, yet, to date, there has been no quantitative characterization of the benefits of workflow intervention. This study first develops a mathematical model for workflow intervention. The controlling parameters are identified: the choice of probability distribution, the skewness of the probability distribution, the intervention interval, and the effectiveness of individual interventions. To the extent that closed-form solutions are available (e.g., for uniform or triangular probability density functions), they are presented. More generally, results are presented by representing the wait time using the Weibull probability density function. Cases where closed-form solutions are intractable are simulated using the Petri net method. Results indicate that, while interventions always reduce the mean cycle time for a workflow, there are certain circumstances where the cycle time reduction is dramatic (i.e., >50%).

Advances in information and communication technologies and, more specifically, in artificial intelligence resulted in more intelligent systems, which, in the business world, particularly in collaborative business ecosystems, can lead to a more streamlined, effective, and sustainable processes. Following the design science research method, this article presents a simulation model, which includes a performance assessment and influence mechanism to evaluate and influence the collaboration of the organisations in a business ecosystem. The establishment of adequate performance indicators to assess the organisations can act as an influencing factor of their behaviour, contributing to enhancing their performance and improving the ecosystem collaboration sustainability. As such, several scenarios are presented shaping the simulation model with actual data gathered from three IT industry organisations running in the same business ecosystem, assessed by a set of proposed performance indicators. The resulting outcomes show that the collaboration can be measured, and the organisations’ behaviour can be influenced by varying the weights of the performance indicators adopted by the CBE manager.

The introduction of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in the “real world” has been studied in information system literature. Critical success factors like management commitment and process reengineering have been identified with the eventual success of the ERP’s implementation. As the implementation and use of ERPs has grown in the business world, so has the desire to include ERPs and the concepts surrounding them into business curricula. This paper takes a key critical success factor and decomposes it into a set of underlying concepts necessary to create a workable ERP curriculum. Ideas for including the concepts into a program are included. The factors and concepts operate as a starting point for those looking to start an ERP program.

Competition in the business world effects the use of information technology. To achieve competitive advantage in the global competition, PT Pan Brothers, Tbk. should establish an integrated information system based on ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). With the ERP system, information will be accurate and up-todate to support strategic decision making. It takes conscientious planning in building the ERP system. Management information systems development projects have a very important role. One determining component is how to choose and use appropriate information systems development method. SDLC (system development life cycle) is growing very rapidly along with the development of information technology. It is necessary to choose the right SDLC in building an integrated system based on ERP. Each SDLC models has advantages and disadvantages. SDLC models will only be optimal if used according to the situation and conditions. Waterfall model provides clear deliverables and milestones, good documentation, easy to understand, easy to implement, emphasizes on good procedural workmanship (precoding design). Some of its weaknesses are difficult to integrate risk management, high cost change documents, high administrative costs, often late completion thus.To avoid them, there should be a well-planned project management and steps properly so it can be on time and will not exceed budget.
