Abstract The majority of historical heritage structures of Makli, Thatta require rehabilitation. As the Tomb of Jam Nizam-al-Din Samoo is near the slope’s edge, the settlement increased due to slope degradation. This study aims to investigate the effect of structural elements such as secant pile and structural nails on the settlement of Tomb. From this study, it was observed that with the installation of secant piles on the slope, Tomb’s settlement can be reduced considerably; moreover, the anchors did not have an appreciable role in the settlement. The secant pile of 12 m sufficient to reduce settlement. This will be economical and easy approach as compare to the retaining wall. The Factor of safety (FOS) reduced from 1.36 to 1.10 with increase of slope from 45 to 35. The FOS of slope also increased with the installation of nails from east side of slope. The will reduce the chances of slope failure and consequently the tilting/collapse of Tomb.

Performance and success of energy geostructures systems are already facts proven by research and practice. The number of implementations is in constant grow and due to their advantages, such systems have started to be implemented in a variety of structural elements. Among the various types, energy piles are the most common type of energy geostructures. However, most of the existing research, experimental sites and case studies refer to energy piles as a foundation element. This paper presents the concept and implementation steps of a different type of energy piles system which is a retaining wall of piles built in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The paper is based on a real project case study, where large diameter piles are used as retaining wall for an urban excavation on a steep slope with high slope failure potential. The piles from the retaining system have been energy equipped in order to be used as an energy exchange element with the ground for heating and cooling demand of 3 new residential buildings from the same site. The paper will present the concept of an urban energy retaining wall and implementation stages of the project.

Slope instability may be a result of change in stress conditions, rise in groundwater table and rainfall. Similarly, many slopes that have been stable for several years can abruptly fail due to changes in geometry, weak soil shear strength or as the effect of an external force. Debris flows (i.e. slope failures) take place without any warning and can have devastating results. So, it is vital to understand the slope failure mechanism and adopt safety prevention measures. Soil nailing is one of the widely used stabilization techniques for soil slopes. In this study, soil nail technique is proposed to upgrade the existing slope in clay. A parametric study was conducted to understand the effects of different nail diameter (i.e. 25mm and 40mm) and nail inclination (i.e. 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400) on slope stability. Morgenstern-Price (i.e. limit equilibrium) method was used to determine the factor of safety of the slope. It was found that the factor of safety of the existing slope improved significantly with three rows of 40mm diameter nail at an inclination of 400.

The Rapid drawdown condition is one of the most dangerous conditions for earth slopes. The change of water level in reservoir always causes a slope failure. This paper presents an investigation on the slope stability of the Rama 9 Reservoir under different drawdown conditions depending on the drawdown ratio, the drawdown rate and the loading conditions. Finite element analysis program PLAXIS 2D 2012 were applied to define the displacement and the factor of safety for slopes at selected positions. The results shown that, in the rapid drawdown condition for the drawdown ratio of 0.75, the factor of safety is 1.16.  In the slow drawdown condition for the drawdown ratio of 1.00, the factor of safety is 1.26. Both are less than the ratio of allowable security value of 1.3. For the Rama 9 Reservoir, the reduction of the water level should be controlled more carefully.

For a particular area in Geotechnical engineering, a soil slope is defined as a surface of soil mass which is inclined. It the slope is unstable or has insufficient factor of safety, then it needs to be strengthened by a retaining wall or a particular earth reinforcement to ensue slope failure does not occur. It has long been known that the pattern of slip failure is classified into two main types: translation and rotation. Other patterns of slip failure can be approached within the two mentioned types above. The main purpose of this classification is to assist the engineers in the process of the the stability analysis in purpose to obtain the safety factor of the slope and the reinforcement system if any. For the retaining wall reinforcement analysis, the developed method is generally in the form of soil pressure behind the wall. The pressure due to the self weight of the soil is generated by assuming the backfill is long enough, so that the slip failure can be fully described according to the two main types above. Then in cases where the backfill behind the wall is quite narrow, the method should be corrected or modified. These narrow areas are often found on roads that are built on relatively steep slopes. In this paper, the form of the slip failure behind a narrow retaining wall is presented. The results of this study are very useful for developing analytical methods for retaining soils that are built in narrow areas due to location limitations.

Some of the renowned world tourism countries have special peculiarities in character in terms of their nature reserves and built environments; that made them stand out for their attractions and visits. These qualities range from conservation and preservation of nature reserves, built environments- epoch architectural supports over the years; historical heritage; political; religious; socio-economic; cultural; and  high technology that enhance culture. The virtues of multi- ethnic groups and multi- cultural nature gave Nigeria a rich cultural heritage, and she is blessed with natural wonders, unique wildlife, and a very favorable climate. More often than not less attention and importance are placed over the nature reserves and built environments to the detriment of tourism in lieu of other sectors. Summarily the country lacks the culture of conservation and preservation of her abundant resources to promote cultural tourism. Case study strategy was applied in the research tours with reports of personal experiences, documentaries and analyses of sites visited in Europe and Nigeria were highlighted with references to their attributes in terms of structures and features that made up the sites as relate to culture and attraction. The task in keeping rural, city landscapes and nature reserves alive stands out as the secret of communication link from the past to present and the future; which tourism developed nations reap as benefits for tourist attraction.

Law of inheritance only happens because the person died. In BW there are two ways to get wealth, that is: as heirs according to the provisions of law and as a person appointed in the will. What is meant by the will itself according to Article 875 BW is an agreement that make statements about what he wished someone would happen after he died, and that by her to pull back. In general, people make a will before a Public Notary. According to article 1 paragraph 1 of Act No. 2 of 2014 concerning On Notary (now referred to UUJN). Notary is a public official who is authorized to make authentic agreements and other authorities referred to in the Act, where each testament must be shaped agreement in order to obtain certainty law as an authentic agreement binding. With the creation of the will meant that the parties can understand and be able to know the basic result of the offense can be arranged so that the interests of the concerned receive proper protection as known by the Notary. Keywords: Inheritance; Heir; Testament; Authentic Agreement
