Abstract An analysis has been carried out to study the combined effects of radiation absorption and chemical reaction on an incompressible, electrically conducting and radiating flow of a Rivlin-Ericksen fluid along a semi-infinite vertical permeable moving plate in the presence of a transverse applied magnetic field. It is assumed that the suction velocity, the temperature and the concentration at the wall are exponentially varying with time. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved analytically using two-term harmonic and non-harmonic functions. A comparison is made with the available results in the literature for a special case and our results are in very good agreement with the known results. A parametric study of the physical parameters is made and results are presented through graphs and tables. The results indicate that the fluid velocity and temperature could be controlled by varying the radiation absorption.

Abstract The numerical investigation of the effects of radiation and chemical reaction on an unsteady MHD free convection flow with a parabolic starting motion of an infinite isothermal vertical porous plate taking into account the viscous dissipation effect has been carried out. The fluid is considered a gray, absorbing emitting radiation but a non-scattering medium. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved numerically by applying the Ritz finite element method. Numerical results for the velocity profiles, temperature profiles and concentration profiles as well as the skin-friction are presented through graphs and tables for different values of the physical parameters involved. Results obtained show a decrease in the temperature and velocity in the boundary layer as the radiation parameter increased. The velocity increases with an increase in the thermal and mass Grashof numbers and decreases with an increase in the magnetic parameter. Further, the concentration and velocity decreases with increasing the Schmidt number and chemical reaction parameter. These findings are in very good agreement with the studies reported earlier.

Radiation effect on unsteady free convection flow of an electrically conducting, gray gas near equilibrium in the optically thin limit along an infinite vertical porous plate are investigated in the presence of strong transverse magnetic field imposed perpendicularly to the plate, taking Hall currents into account. A similarly parameter length scale (h), as a function of time and the suction velocity are considered to be inversely proportional to this parameter. Similarity equations are then derived and solved numerically using the shooting method. The numerical values of skin friction and the rate of heat transfer are represented in a table. The effects of radiation parameter, Hall parameter, and magnetic field parameters are discussed and shown graphically.

The objective of this paper is to analyze an unsteady MHD free convective heat and mass transfer boundary flow past a semi-infinite vertical porous plate immersed in a porous medium with radiation and chemical reaction. The governing equations of the flow field are solved numerical a two term perturbation method. The effects of the various parameters on the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles are presented graphically and values of skin-frication coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number for various values of physical parameters are presented through tables.

Abstract The combined impact of solar radiation, chemical reaction, Joule heating, viscous dissipation and magnetic field on flow of an electrically conducting nanofluid over a convectively heated stretching sheet embedded in a saturated porous medium is simulated. By using appropriate similarity transformation, the governing nonlinear equations are converted into ODEs and numerical shooting technique with (RK45) method is employed to tackle the problem. The effects of various thermo-physical parameters on the entire flow structure with heat and mass transfer are presented graphically and discussed quantitatively. Special cases of our results are benchmarked with some of those obtained earlier in the literature and are found to be in excellent agreement. It is found that both the temperature and surface concentration gradients are increasing functions of the non-Darcy porous medium parameter. One describing result is the incident solar radiation absorption and its transmission into the working nanofluid by convection.

This work is focused on the numerical solution of unsteady double-diffusive free convective flow along a vertical isothermal cylinder in the presence of a transverse magnetic field, first-order homogeneous chemical reaction, thermal radiation and Soret and Dufour effects. The Rosseland approximation is used to describe the radiative heat flux in the energy equation. The governing equations are formulated and a numerical solution is obtained by using an explicit finite-difference scheme. The solutions at each time step have been found to reach the steady state solution properly. Representative results for the fluid velocity, temperature and solute concentration profiles as well as the local heat and mass transfer rates for various values of the physical parameters are displayed in both graphical and tabular forms. In this manuscript, we have investigated the influence of radiation absorption on an unsteady MHD convective heat and mass transfer flow of a Newtonian fluid past a vertical porous plate in the presence of thermal radiation and chemical reaction. The non dimensional governing equations have been solved by using a multiple perturbation method, subject to the corresponding boundary conditions. The effects of various physical parameters such as velocity, temperature and concentration are studied through graphs. The expressions for local skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are derived and discussed with the help of a table. It is noticed that velocity increases when an increase in modified Grashof number Gm, radiation absorption parameter χ, Sorret number S0, time t whereas it decreases when an increase in Schmidt number Sc, chemical reaction parameter Kr and radiation parameter F. Temperature increases with an increase in radiation parameter χ and Sorret number S0whereas it decreases with an increase in chemical reaction parameter Kr, F and ϕ. Concentration is observed to be decreased when chemical reaction parameter Kr and Schmidt number Sc increase whereas it increases with an increase in Sorret number S0. Skin friction increases with an increase modified Grashof number Gm, radiation parameter χ and Sorret number S0whereas it has reverse effect in the case of Schmidt number Sc, chemical reaction parameter Kr. Nusselt number increases with an increase in Sc, S0, χ whereas it has reverse effect in the case of Kr. Sherwood number gets decreased when Sc, χ and Kr both are increased whereas it has shown revere effect in the case of S0.

Abstract The thermal diffusion and viscous dissipation effects on an unsteady MHD free convection heat and mass transfer flow of an incompressible, electrically conducting, fluid past an infinite vertical porous plate embedded in a porous medium of time dependent permeability under oscillatory suction velocity in the presence of a heat absorbing sink have been studied. It is considered that the influence of a uniform magnetic field acts normal to the flow and the permeability of the porous medium fluctuates with time. The dimensionless governing equations for this investigation have been solved numerically by using the efficient Galerkin finite element method. The numerical results obtained have been presented through graphs and tables for the thermal Grashof number (Gr > 0) corresponding to the cooling of the porous plate and (Gr < 0) corresponding to heating of the porous plate to observe the effects of various material parameters encountered in the problem under investigation. Numerical data for skin-friction, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are tabulated and then discussed.
