AbstractIntroduction. Medical history and physical examination are basic elements allowing nurses to assess patients’ health. The ability to auscultate the chest in combination with anatomical and physiological knowledge constitute a quick and reliable method of differentiation and diagnosis of many diseases.Aim. The aim of the study was to assess knowledge and skills in the field of chest auscultation among nursing staff .Material and method. A prospective, pilot observational study was conducted on a group of 51 nurses. The level of knowledge and skills in the field of chest auscultation and independence in undertaking this activity in professional work were assessed. The knowledge test developed by the author, survey questionnaire and SimScope 360-3400 trainer were used. P<0.05 value was considered statistically significant.Results. Lack of chest auscultation skills was observed in 10% of the respondents, although none of them revealed lack of knowledge in this respect (p<0.001). Higher level of knowledge correlated with higher level of skills of the respondents, while a lower level of knowledge conditioned a lower level of skills (p=0.049). In the respondents’ opinion, auscultation of the lungs and heart are activities performed only by a doctor.Conclusions. Despite a moderate level of knowledge and skills in the field of chest auscultation, nursing staff do not use physical examination techniques in their daily work.

The formation of a powerful, active, and dynamic axiological foundation of personality is one of the essential tasks of the competency approach because even a high level of knowledge and skills acquired in the process of learning and education cannot ensure the integrity and progressively oriented unity of personal and professional competencies for future successful life, socio-cultural and professional self-realization. Given this, within the competence paradigm of education, qualitatively new content is the unity of learning and education. If before a significant amount of theoretical knowledge, detached from real life, had a shallow educational potential, now any pedagogical action, even focused on the cognitive assimilation of basic scientific knowledge, will have a worldview. An essential characteristic of the competency approach in education is that it can ensure each student’s unique structure the unity of knowledge, competencies, and values.

Abstract Introduction. Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHL) are among the most frequent types of cancer linked with the lymphatic system. The disease, if not diagnosed or treated, may lead to serious health complications and/or death. Aim. The purpose of the work is to evaluate the level of knowledge of nursing staff about NHL. Material and methods. There were 100 members of nursing staff aged from 24 to 56 participating in the study. The research method was a diagnostic survey but the measuring tool was an anonymous author’s questionnaire which comprised 25 closed, single-choice questions and 2 filtering questions. Results. Among the respondents, 48% work at the Clinical Haematology/Oncology Ward, while the remaining 52% work in other wards. The question: “Is it possible for the NHL to be located outside the lymphatic system?”, 55% of respondents responded with an affirmative, 23% with a negative, 22% did not know the answer. Among the respondents, 100% stated that their employers do not designate any financial assets to train medical personnel with respect to expanding their knowledge about non-Hodgkin lymphomas. As many as 46% of respondents expand their knowledge through self-study using their own means. According to the National Cancer Registry, in 2014 there were 874 incidents and 236 deaths noted among men and 862 incidents and 235 deaths among women, linked with the diffused NHL. Comparing the data of the National Cancer Registry with the previous years, we can observe an increasing trend of morbidity and mortality, linked with the NHL. For example, in 2006 there were a total 1207 cases and 315 deaths linked with the diffused NHL. Conclusions. Results show that the respondents’ awareness with regard to NHL is limited. Employers do not finance NHL training, which may affect the low level of knowledge. NHL patient hospitalization is a long-term process requiring expenses and effort on the side of medical personnel. Nursing and health education are necessary elements of the therapeutic process of an NHL patient.

Abstract Students with learning difficulties can be identified through their literacy, numeracy, cognitive, social and emotional developments. Preschool teachers without the sufficient knowledge on the  characteristics of students learning difficulties will face  problems in managing the class, paying less attention to the students’ needs and using less visual and realia teaching aids as parts of teaching and learning strategies as well as facing difficulties in communicating with the students. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of knowledge among preschool teachers on the characteristics of learning difficulties. . This study employed the qualitative case study design and   involved only 10 participants from a private kindergarten during Movement Control Order (MCO). The instrument consists of a  knowledge test which was adapted  according to the objective of the study. The validity and reliability were evaluated according to the instrument used. The score of the knowledge test was used to measure the respondents ‘level of  knowledge. The data were gathered and analysed. The findings indicate that preschool teachers  have moderate knowledge on the characteristics of students with learning difficulties. Thus, teachers need to be given exposure in overcoming students’ learning difficulties through seminars, courses or workshops. Through exposure, teachers will be  able to discover effective solutions and learning strategies for the students. The collaboration between teachers and parents is also necessary to cater for the needs of students with learning difficulties.

This research aims to analyse effectiveness of the Indonesian National Qualification Framework (INQF)-based learning on General Physics to increase the sixth level student’s Learning Outcomes (LOs) according to the INQF indicators and student’s skills in using physics laboratory equipment. This research was conducted using two groups of students that consisted of 29 and 30 students. A preliminary test (pre-test) and a post-test were applied to the groups that assumed to have the same level of knowledge and skills. The data were analysed using the paired t-test, the n-gain, and the ANOVA. The results show that the INQF-based learning applied to the General Physics effective in increasing the student’s LOs according to the INQF indicators. Moreover, the n-gain scores between the pre-test and the post-test can be categorized as moderate for the sixth level student’s LOs and categorized as high for the student’s skills in using the physics laboratory equipment. Key words: INQF-based learning, general physics, student’s learning outcomes.

Many people are oblivious of the structured paths that lead them from one level of knowledge or one career path to another. Unless they are unusually reflective and deliberately trace their intellectual growth, most people move along and go with the flow of daily living and daily work needs. Whereas professionals keep pace with new requirements placed upon them, students move ahead according to the required collegiate curriculums, taking the prescribed courses as directed. Both groups, however, accumulate valuable experiences along either path.

Abstract Introduction: The field of work in radiography is in constant development. This imposes requirements for both education, the professional practitioner herself, and for the employer who will ensure that knowledge and skills are up to date in order to maintain high standards at all times. Internationally organizational development and professional knowledge are continually calling for radiographer’s familiarization with the latest standards and techniques in this field. There has been little research on how radiographers experience if they have sufficient knowledge and experience in medication and drug administration. Method: A qualitative study with observation of five radiographers, who also participated in focused interviews aimed at mapping their experiences and assessments about the safety of drug administration in professional practice. Results: The observed performance of the radiographers´ work testifies to safe drug administration in that administration situations are characterized by a high academic level of knowledge. Still, radiographers are positive to more regular follow-up learning and/or training at the workplace, and discussions about drug administration safety. Conclusion: Radiographers' level of knowledge in the field of drug administration was found to be adequate according to the expected learning outcomes of the bachelor education in radiography. However, this is a small study, and the subject should be followed up further.
