Abstract We studied the reproductive traits in 23 of 190 individuals of Capoeta umbla caught monthly in the Solhan Creek of the Murat River between April 2017 and March 2018. The sex ratio (F:M) was found to be 1:1.11. The macroscopic examination of the gonads and gonado-somatic index indicated that the reproductive period lasted from May to August with peak activity in May. The fecundity ranged from 2,000 to 9,000 oocytes, and it correlated with the total length and body weight. This work represents the first attempt to investigate the reproductive traits of the Capoeta umbla population in the Solhan Creek. The results provide information on the reproductive biology and contribute to the conservation of the fish population and its sustainable management.

Information on the reproductive biology of Southwest Scotian Shelf haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) (NAFO Division 4X) is presented including geographic distribution by maturation stage, timing of maturation, seasonal changes in gonad weight, spawning distribution in relation to environmental factors, and fecundity at length, weight, and age. Haddock were found to spawn on Browns, Baccaro, LaHave, and Roseway Banks over sand/gravel substrates. Spawning fish were found in a narrower and colder temperature range than were fish of other maturity stages. Spawning fish were found from April to August with peak activity occurring from April to June. Testes peaked in weight in February and March when they accounted for 1–2.2% of body weight while ovaries reached their maximum size (3.1–12.5% of body weight) from late March to mid-May. The length at 50% maturity varied over the period 1970–85 and these changes were correlated with changes in population biomass. There were no significant differences in fecundity/length relationships with area or year (1983–86) but fecundity for a given size decreased over the spawning season.

The reproductive biology of Heterotis niloticus has been studied from monthly samples taken from artisanal fishing on the Agneby river during the period june 2013 to May 2015. The whole sample consisted of 498 specimens of which 269 females and 229 males were examined. Sex-ratio observed was in favour of females (1: 1.17; X2 = 3.21; p > 0.05). The monthly evolution of the gonado-somatic index (GSI), the liver-somatic index (LSI), the condition factor (K) and maturation stages suggests that this fish has two periods of reproduction. The two periods were respectively from june to august and from november to december. The standard length at first sexual maturity was 490.6 mm for females and 436.3 mm for males. The absolute fecundity was ranged from 5424 to 25591 oocytes in females of 595 mm to 780 mm standard length. The relative fecundity was 3752± 1491 oocytes/kg of female.

Marosatherina ladigesi is one of endemic fishes in South Sulawesi and also as ornamental fish. Anthropogenic activities such as destructive fishing and degradation caused by the dredging of sand carried M. ladigesi to the red list of threatened IUCN category as vulnerable species. Accordingly, conservation efforts are needed to maintenance fish population in its habitat. The biologic information for conservation is reproduction of fishes. This research aimed to described reproduction of Celebes rainbow fish including sex ratio, gonad maturity, gonado-somatic index, fecundity, and distribution of egg diameter in Pattunuang and Batu Puteh Rivers, South Sulawesi. This research was conducted from May 2018 to April 2019. The result showed that the sex ratio in Pattunuang and Batu Puteh rivers were 1,00:1,60 and 1,00:1,08, respectively. This species spawned from the end of dry season to the early rainy season. Fecundity of fish in Pattunuang and Batu Puteh rivers were 22-795 eggs and 69-571 eggs, respectively. Based on distribution of egg diameter, Celebes rainbowfish categorized as total spawner. For the conservation of this species is recommended to catch restrictions in the spawning season and for male fish, and needs to be proposed the conservation in situ to determine both of rivers as reservoir area because these habitats are a source of germplasm.

The reproductive biology of a population of the weakly electric fish Brachyhypopomus draco from southern Brazil is described. Information is provided on the establishment of the reproductive period in this species and its relations with environmental and feeding factors, as well as on the absolute and relative fecundities, spawning type, sex ratio and sexual dimorphism. The species exhibits a relatively long reproductive period, a relative fecundity of 0.173 oocytes per mg of female total weight, and fractional spawning. The sex ratio did not differ from 1:1 during all sampled months. Sexual dimorphism related to hypertrophy of the male's distal portion of caudal filament was observed and males grew to greater lengths than females. Male gonadosomatic index (GSI) was significantly related to water depth, oxygen saturation and temperature. Female GSI was significantly related to water depth and hepatosomatic index.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to determine the parameters of the reproductive biology of seven commercial species at the Ramsar Site of the Baixada Maranhense to support fisheries management measures. The collections were carried out between 2012 and 2016. The reproductive period, sex ratio, weight-length relationship and first sexual maturity were evaluated for seven species of commercial importance. The sex ratio showed that females are predominant for all species, except for Plagioscion squamossissimus. The weight-length relationship indicated a greater investment in weight for Cichla monoculus and Hassar affinis, and a greater investment in length for Hoplias malabaricus, Plagioscion squamosissimus, Prochilodus lacustris, Pygocentrus nattereri, and Schizodon dissimilis. The reproductive activity of the species was predominant in the rainy season, but C. monoculus, H. malabaricus and P. lacustris showed the ability to reproduce in both seasons. As management measures for the region, it is suggested a change in the closed fishing season established by IBAMA, from December 1 to April 30, to ensure the protection of all commercial species in this study.
