Initial Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Selected Active Substances in Reducing Damage To Rape Plants Caused By Arion Lusitanicus (Gastropoda, Pulmonata, Arionidae) Spray forms of various chemical compounds including compounds of plant origin, molluscicides, and insecticides were tested in order to investigate their possibilities for reducing damage to young rape plants caused by the slug Arion lusitanicus Mabille, 1868. Among them, abamectin (0.2%), methiocarb (0.5%) and metaldehyde (1.0%) reduced damage to the plants, although metaldehyde remained active for only nine days. These three chemical compounds were not phytotoxic to rape plants, and none of them proved lethal to the slugs at the concentration used. The reduction in rape plant damage was obtained as a result of their deterrent and/or antifeedant action. The results indicate that abamectin has high potential usefulness in protecting winter rape seedlings from slugs.

The popularity of herbal remedies and medicines, with the participation of biologically active substances from plants is traditionally high. The annual increase of the domestic market for herbal remedies is due to the preservation and modernization of production capacities for processing of medicinal vegetative raw materials in Ukraine, introduction of modern scientific developments, a large natural resource base of medicinal plants and attracting investments in the development of this industry. The aim of our work was the study of the domestic market of medicines of plant origin, which includes herbal remedies, substances and preparations with the participation of biologically active substances from plants. The object of the study was domestic medicines of plant origin that are registered in Ukraine for 2012–2017. The study used the analytical, statistical methods, and the results of its own resource studies of medicinal plants. Phytopharmaceutical market of Ukraine is actively developing due to the attraction of new types of medicinal plants and expanding the range of medicines. The number of domestic drugs with the participation of biologically active substances from plants has increased by 17.4% compared with 2014. It is established that as of 1 January 2017 in Ukraine was 1 141 the form of medicinal drugs of plant origin. Of them: 645 – domestic products, 496 – foreign. Most of the herbal drugs in the pharmaceutical market of Ukraine are made from wild and cultivated domestic raw materials.

The State Pharmacopoeia of the XIV edition defines the approach for the assessment of the quality of medicinal plant materials, it deals with the identification of the main groups of biologically active substances by thin layer chromatography. According to this approach, the analysis of some types of medicinal plant materials as a part of some objects of plant origin was carried out. The article presents the quality assessment algorithm as examplified by peppermint leaves (Mentha piperita L.), which are part of a variety of plant object.

The review substantiates the use of biologically active substances of plant origin, derived from marsh saber, common on the territory of Russia – in various sections of clinical medicine. The General description and zones of its distribution, possibilities of extraction of Sabel-nick rhizomes are given. The chemical composition was charac-terized and the role of proanthocyanidins in the anti-inflammatory effects of sabelnik was clarified. The possibility of obtaining various medicinal forms of drugs from the rhizomes of sabelnik is shown. A well-known range of applications in medical practice for lesions of the musculoskeletal system, arthrosis and arthritis, nephropathy, after transurethral resection of the prostate, etc.

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a coronavirus that causes the pandemic Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). There is no current specific treatment for this new coronavirus. In this study, we employed a virtual screening repurposing strategy to search for potential SARS-CoV-2 Mpro inhibitors. The databases PDB, ChEMBL, BindingDB and DrugBank were queried with several filtering steps based on ligand-based and structure-based approaches. As a result, we obtained 58 molecules (37 from ChEMBL and 21 from DrugBank) that potentially inhibit SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. These molecules have on their chemical structure functional groups that favor stronger docking scores than the inhibitor N3. Several of these molecules are reported experimentally as SARS-CoV Mpro inhibitors. Hence, a combined virtual screening strategy allowed finding chemical compounds with a high potential for the inhibition of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro.

Oil seed rape seedlings which had been treated with 10-30% methanol grew faster, their yield of fresh matter exceeded that of untreated control plants by 102%, of dry matter by 80%. Although methanol did not affect the content of chlorophyll or carotene in the leaves, the overall pigment yield grew with the dry matter of one seedling. The biomass of rape leaves which had been sprayed with 10 or 20% methanol solutions was by 50-90% higher as compared to untreated plants. The activity of some enzymes (nitrate reductase and alkaline phosphatase) also increased in methanol treated plants.

In modern food products, food additives of natural origin are increasingly used. The search for ef-fective antioxidants of plant origin is a widely studied topic at the present time. The study of this issue makes it possible to introduce the latest solutions in the fight against lipid oxidation in food products. The aim of this scientific work was to evaluate the radical-binding capacity of plant ex-tracts with different contents of active substances. As a result of a series of experiments using the DPPH method, the antioxidant properties of 14 samples were investigated. It was found that the greatest antioxidant activity among the tested extracts is possessed by extracts of green tea, apple, grape seed, sorghum. The rest of the samples are moderately active.
