In the rapid development many organisation rely on context data to support as well as to assist its decision making process. Consequently, Business Intelligence (BI), Dashboard, and Data Visualization emerged as primary tools in early 1990s as a way to help practitioners, data analyst, and data scientist to present context data into an actionable information for decision making process. However, despite its robust and powerful tools, recent study done by Kaggle’s survey in 2017 resulted that in the last five years, many companies were not able to create effective data-driven dashboard due to complex dataset, poor dashboard design, and insufficient storytelling. Hence, understanding of who is going to use dashboard, choosing which data and metrics to visualize in the right context, knowing how to convey information, driving engagement, and persuading audiences are essential in current business practices. This study is aimed to help practitioners to understand the impact of effective dashboard can have on decision making process, to design leveraging dashboard, and to present the dashboard in storytelling. A literature study is performed to gather all relevant information resulted in guidelines for dashboard creator. Case study in financial technology company is applied to experiment and to test the guidelines for assisting dashboard creator to present data-driven insight to the stakeholder.

Data-driven storytelling helps to communicate facts, easing comprehension and decision making, particularly in crisis settings such as the current COVID-19 pandemic. Several studies have reported on general practices and guidelines to follow in order to create effective narrative visualizations. However, research regarding the benefits of implementing those practices and guidelines in software development is limited. In this article, we present a case study that explores the benefits of including data visualization best practices in the development of a software system for the current health crisis. We performed a quantitative and qualitative analysis of sixteen graphs required by the system to monitor patients' isolation and circulation permits in quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that the use of storytelling techniques in data visualization contributed to an improved decision-making process in terms of increasing information comprehension and memorability by the system stakeholders.

BACKGROUND Advanced sensor, measurement and analytics technologies enable entirely new ways to deliver care. Increased availability of digital data can be used for data-driven personalization of care. Data-driven personalization can complement expert-driven personalization by providing support for decision making, or even automating some parts of decision making in relation to the care process. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to analyze how digital data acquired from posture scanning can enhance physiotherapy and enable more personalized delivery of physiotherapy. METHODS A Case study is conducted with a company that has designed a Posture Scan Recording System (PSRS), which is an Information System (IS) that can record, measure and report human movement digitally to be used in physiotherapy. Interviews are used to explore the viewpoints of different stakeholders involved in physiotherapy. The data is analyzed thematically. RESULTS As the result of our thematic analysis, we identified three different support types the posture scanning can provide to enable more personalized delivery of physiotherapy. The types are: (1) Modeling the condition, which is about the use of posture scanning data for detecting and understanding the healthcare user’s condition and the root cause of the possible pain. (2) Visualization for a shared understanding, which is about the use of posture scanning data to inform and involve the healthcare user in more collaborative decision-making regarding care. (3) Evaluating the impact of the intervention, which is about the use of posture scanning data to evaluate the care progress and impact of the intervention. CONCLUSIONS Current care models in healthcare emphasize the importance to put the healthcare user at the center of the care. However, physiotherapy has lacked data driven solutions to inform and involve the healthcare user in care in a person-centered manner. The present study analyzes how posture scanning can enhance physiotherapy and presents three different types of support that posture scanning can provide for data-driven personalization of physiotherapy.

Integrating collaborative data in data-driven Business Intelligence (BI) system brings an opportunity to foster the decision-making process towards improving tourism competitiveness. This article presents BITOUR, a BI platform that integrates four collaborative data sources (Twitter, Openstreetmap, Tripadvisor and Airbnb). BITOUR follows a classical BI architecture and provides functionalities for data transformation, data processing, data analysis and data visualization. At the core of the data processing, BITOUR offers mechanisms to identify tourists in Twitter, assign tweets to attractions and accommodation sites from Tripadvisor and Airbnb, analyze sentiments in opinions issued by tourists, and all this using geolocation objects in Openstreetmap. With all these ingredients, BITOUR enables data analysis and visualization to answer questions like the most frequented places by tourists, the average stay length or the view of visitors of some particular destination.

When analyzing the possibility of supporting the decision-making process, one should take into account the essential properties of economic entities (the system and its objects). As a result, the development of an effective business model ought to be based on rationality and the characteristics of the system being modeled. Such an approach implies the use of an appropriate analysis and modeling method. Since the majority of relationships in the model are described using the experts’ tacit knowledge, methods known as “soft” are more suitable than “hard” in those situations. Fuzzy cognitive mappings (FCM) are therefore commonly used as a technique for participatory modeling of the system, where stakeholders can convey their knowledge to the model of the system in question. In this study, we introduce a novel approach: the extended weighted influence nonlinear gauge system (WINGS), which may equally well be applied to the decision problems of this type. Appraisal of high-value and long-term offers in the sector of the telecommunication supplier industry serves as a real-world case study for testing the new method. A comparison with FCM provides a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences of the two approaches.

In asylum decision-making, legal authorities rely on the criterion "credibility" as a measure for determining whether an individual has a legitimate asylum claim; that is, whether they have a well-founded fear of persecution upon returning to their country of origin. Nation states, international institutions, and NGOs increasingly seek to leverage data-driven technologies to support such decisions, deploying processes of data cleaning, contestation, and interpretation. We qualitatively analyzed 50 asylum cases to understand how the asylum decision-making process in Denmark leverages data to configure individuals as credible (or not). In this context, data can vary from the applicant's testimony to data acquired on the applicant from registers and alphanumerical data. Our findings suggest that legal authorities assess credibility through a largely discretionary practice, establishing certainty by ruling out divergence or contradiction between the different forms of data and documentation involved in an asylum case. As with other reclassification processes [following Bowker and Star 1999], credibility is an ambiguous prototypical concept for decision-makers to attempt certainty, especially important to consider in the design of data-driven technologies where stakeholders have differential power.

Purpose Shari’ah provides the basic tenets of the Islamic finance industry and advocates banks to share their profits and losses with investors. But what it means for a firm to be “Shari’ah-compliant” and what form of connections it can have, even in theory, to either the firm’s value or profitability is still an untapped question. This study tries to answer this question. This study aims to find the impact of Shari’ah compliance on firm performance. The results obtained would be useful in helping investors, regulators, companies, government, academicians and practitioners in their decision-making process as to ensure better economic and business gains, both locally and globally. Design/methodology/approach Panel data on 634 Shari’ah-compliant firms have been used in this study for the period of 2000–2014. Findings The results indicate that Shari’ah compliance adds to the value of firms as firms perform transactions according to Shari’ah while avoiding non-permissible activities. Originality/value This study adds value to the existing literature by showing the statistical results for the impact of Shari’ah compliance on the performance of the listed firms on Bursa Malaysia.

The central issue facing federal regulation of breast implants is that while such devices are not functionally necessary or needed for survival, the side effects may be harmful and have not been proven unharmful. The Medical Device Amendments of 1976 appear to require such evidence prior to the FDA permitting the unrestricted marketing of these devices. However, only recently have such requirements been imposed by the FDA. The author examines the FDA's decision-making process, particularly as applied to silicone breast implants, and the factors that appear to have affected such decisions. In pursuing this study, the activities of a number of interest-group actors, as well as congressional responses and the role of federal bureaucratic actors, were examined. In 1992 the FDA established a regulatory protocol that effectively withdrew most silicone breast implants from the market for the purpose of breast augmentation and allows for the monitoring of the impact of new implants on women's health. This increased concern for determining the safety of breast implants is due to a number of factors, which are examined in this article.
