This study was conducted to assess the physicochemical analysis, qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis and antioxidant activity of various solvent (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water) extract obtained from Trichodesma indicum aerial parts. The physicochemical analysis was carried out using standard reported methods. Successive solvent extraction was carried out using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol by the Soxhlet method, followed by maceration with water. Qualitative phytochemical screening was done using standard procedures. The extracts were analyzed for its total phenolic and total flavonoid contents by Folin - ciocalteu and Aluminium chloride colorimetric methods. For the extracts, antioxidant activity was screened using three different methods, 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl assay, Nitricoxide assay, and Superoxide dismutase assay. Ascorbic acid has been used for antioxidant activity as a positive control. The percentage of inhibition was measured at various levels of concentration. The total ash, water-soluble ash, acid insoluble ash, sulfated ash, and the moisture content of the powdered drug was found to be 15.30, 07.50, 03.99, 21.00, 05.00%w/w. The qualitative phytochemicals found in the extracts are carbohydrates, proteins, and amino acids, flavonoids, phenols, phytosterols, saponins, tannins, and glycosides. The total phenolic and total flavonoid content of the extracts was found in the sequence of ethyl acetate > n-hexane > ethanol > aqueous. All the extracts demonstrated significant concentration-dependent antioxidant activity in DPPH assay, Nitric oxide assay, and Superoxide dismutase assay. The findings indicated that all solvent extracts of Trichodesma indicum have promising antioxidant activity and that could be the presence of phytochemicals present in the extract.

Objective: The present study was designed to evaluate the physicochemical, qualitative, quantitative analysis and antioxidant activity of ethanol fruit extract of Guazuma ulmifolia. Studies were carried out to detect the bioactive component.Methods: The physiochemical properties such as loss on drying, extractive value for ethyl acetate, acetone, ethanol, total ash, acid insoluble ash, water-soluble ash and PH values; the phytochemical such as tannins, phenol, terpenoids, flavonoids, saponin, quinones, cardiac glycosides, coumarin, steroids and acids were found using standard methods. The total phenol and flavonoid content were estimated by Folinciocalteu and Aluminium chloride by colorimetric method. In vitro antioxidants, properties were evaluated by DPPH and FRAP assay.Results: Phytochemical analysis reveals the availability of secondary metabolites like tannins, phenol, terpenoids, flavonoids, coumarin, steroids, and cardiac glycosides in the different extract. The quantitative analysis for ethanolic fruit extract was done for total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoids content (TFC). An ethanolic extract found to have high TPC [27.2797±0.1756] than TFC. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH assay (2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl-hydrate) and FRAP (ferric Reducing Ability of Plasma).Conclusion: On the basis of this study, it was found that the Guazuma ulmifolia fruits have potential to act as a source of useful drugs due to the presence of various active phytochemical constituent, which will be helpful in preventing various diseases caused by the oxidative stress.

Objective: Eupatorium glandulosum is a useful medicinal plant belongs to the family Asteraceae. It is traditionally used to treat various diseases such as wound healing, antioxidant, and antiproliferative. The present study was aimed to investigate the physicochemical and phytochemical properties of various extracts of aerial parts of E. glandulosum. Methods: The E. glandulosum plant materials were extracted using the solvents alcohol, ethyl acetate, and chloroform by Soxhlet method. The extracts were screened for physiochemical constants, preliminary phytochemical analysis for carbohydrates, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, and saponins. The quantitative phytochemical analysis was carried out for total flavonoid and total phenols using standard procedures. Results: The physiochemical constituents such as total ash, acid-insoluble ash, and water-soluble ash were found to be 14.25% (w/w), 5% (w/w), and 7.30% (w/w), respectively. The preliminary phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of carbohydrates, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins, and saponins. The flavonoid content of the plant extracts was found to be in the descending order ethyl acetate ˃alcohol ˃chloroform and the phenolic content was found to be alcohol ˃ethyl acetate ˃chloroform. Conclusion: The result showed the presence of phytochemical constituents and higher values of phenolic and flavonoid content make the plant useful for the formulation of the different drugs for human uses for treating various diseases.

Objective: In the present study, the essential oil, methanol extract, and methanol fractions (n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol) obtained from Commelina nudiflora were investigated for the free radical scavenging effects and phytochemical analysis.Methods: The antioxidative effect of the essential oil, methanol extracts and methanol fractions were evaluated using 2, 2 diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were determined using Folin-Ciocalteau and aluminium chloride reagents respectively. The phytochemical analyses of the essential oil, methanol extracts and methanol fractions were performed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GCMS). Results: The antioxidant, total phenolic and total flavonoid contents of butanol, ethyl acetate and chloroform fractions were higher followed by methanol extract, hexane fraction and essential oil. Phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of alkaloid, saponin, steroid, phytosterols, triterpenoids and tannins etc. The identified bioactive constituents of essential oil, methanol extract and methanol fractions of C. nudiflora were indole, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol, 2-pentadecanone, 6,10,14-trimethyl, phenol, benzyl alcohol, eugenol, phenol, 2, 4-bis (1,1-dimethylethyl), hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester (palmitic acid ester), n-hexadecanoic acid (palmitic acid), 9, 12-octadecadienoic acid, (linoleic acid) and phytol. All identified bioactive compounds and their derivatives were generally reported with antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties.Conclusion: The obtained data suggest that the essential oil, methanol extract and methanol fractions of C. nudiflora possess remarkable antioxidant activities and vital phytochemicals. Thus the plant can be a utilized as a potential source of nutraceutical with antioxidant activity.

Free radical is any molecular species that have unpaired free electrons in their outer orbital shell that make radicals highly reactive, resulting in pathogenesis conditions such as cellular injury, premature aging, cancer, hepatic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease, and kidney disease. One source of natural antioxidant is jackfruit. The purpose of this research was to determine the phenolic and flavonoid contents in the extracts and fractions of jackfruit peel and their potential as antioxidants. Jackfruit peel powder was extracted from maceration. The total phenolic content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. Meanwhile, flavonoid content was determined using the aluminium chloride complex colorimetric method. Measurements of antioxidant activity were conducted using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The ethyl acetate fraction had high phenolic and flavonoid contents, which were 49.667±1.508 g GAE/100 g of sample and 70.199±0.374 g of quercertin equivalent/100 g. The ethyl acetate fraction had the strongest antioxidant activity with IC50 value of 4.539±0.201 µg/ mL and correlation value (R2 ) of 0.5881 for phenols and R2 of 0.7241 for flavonoids. Ethyl acetate fraction of jackfruit peel is very potential to be developed as a natural antioxidant and functional food.

Background: The antioxidant activity and the total phenolic and flavonoid contents of the derived extracts (chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol) of the 70% hydroalcoholic extract of the aerial parts of Centaurea solstitialis growing in Algeria was assessed. The active extracts were selected for phytochemical investigations. Methods: The antioxidant capabilities of the extracts were assessed using 1, 1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH•) scavenging and Cupric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (CUPRAC) assays. Butylhydroxyanisole (BHA), butylhydroxytoluene (BHT) and α –tocopherol were used as positive controls. The total phenolic content and total flavonoid content of the extracts were determined as gallic acid equivalents and quercetin equivalents, respectively. Chromatographic methods were used to isolate the secondary metabolites and spectrometric and spectroscopic methods were used to determine their chemical structures. Results: The ethyl acetate extract exhibited the highest antioxidant activities followed by the n-butanol extract. The highest phenolic and flavonoid contents were found in the n-butanol extract. Phytochemical study of the ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts led to the isolation of an undescribed guaianolide named 3-(4-hydroxybenzoyl)-cynaratriol and a known sesquiterpene lactone along with three known flavonoid glycosides. Their structures were established by spectral analyzes mainly high resolution electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (HR-ESIMS) and 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance experiments. Conclusion: The extracts of aerial parts of C. solstitialis showed significant antioxidant activities. An undescribed sesquiterpene lactone and four known secondary metabolites were isolated from the most active extracts.

  The focus of the present study was to determine the association of the anti-oxidant activity of Costus speciosus (Koen Ex. Retz.) Sm. with the total phe-nolic content and the total flavonoid content. The antioxidant activity of the extracts was quantified by diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The total phenolic content was determined by the Folin-Ciocalteau method and the total flavonoid content was determined by the aluminium chloride method. Among the four extracts of the plant, the ethanol extract exhibited the high-est antioxidant activity and also the highest total phenolic and flavonoid con-tents. A strong correlation was observed between the antioxidant activity and the total phenolic and flavonoid contents. A statistical model was de-rived to explain this dependence and a non-linear association was observed between the antioxidant activity and the total flavonoid content.

Karamunting (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk) is a family of Myrtaceae which has been used by the community as traditional medicine. The purpose of this research is determine total phenolic and total flavonoid level and test antioxidant activity of Karamunting Leaves. Determination of total phenolic using gallic acid standard by the Folin Ciocalteu method. The results obtained total phenolic in water fraction of 99 mgGAE/g, ethanol extract 94,1 mgGAE/g, ethyl acetate fraction 83,3 mgGAE/g and n-hexane fraction 41,4 mgGAE/g. Determination of total flavonoid using standard quersetin with AlCL3 complex formation method, the results obtained total flavonoid in water fraction of 156,8 mgQE/g, ethanol extract 192,6 mgQE/g, ethyl acetate fraction 89,4 mgQE/g and n-hexane fraction 31,3 mgQE/g. Determination of antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical capture test (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl), the results obtained in water fraction with IC50 value 15,02 µg/mL, ethanol extract 14,06 µg/mL, ethyl acetate fraction 14,48 µg/mL with very strong activity of antioxidant, whereas in the n-hexane fraction was categorized as weak antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 264,02 µg/mL.

General phytochemical screening of the aerial parts of Consolida orientalis revealed the presence of steroids, terpenes, phenolic compounds, saponins, fatty acids, alkaloids. This study was conducted to investigate the bioactivities of extracts, isolation and identification the compounds from aerial parts of C.orientalis. The main goal of the present study is identifying and characterizing the antioxidant activity of the Consolida orientalis and biological isolation of active terpenoid. Aerial parts of the plant were dried at room temperature and reduced to small pieces, followed by using extraction with ethyl acetate percolation. Tree complementary analysis system was used, DPPH free radical scavenging test, total phenolic metabolites and FRAP. The total phenolic content was 38.83±2.09 mg gallic acid corresponding to g-1 extract with regarding to standard curve (y=0.0054x+0.0488, r2=0.995). IC50 value for DPPH radical – scavenging was 987.11±28.66 mgml-1. The extract was exhibited a medium reducing power compared with Vit C. The isolation and purification was afforded white crystalline powder which was subjected to physical, chemical and spectral identification by IR, 1H- and 13C- NMR and GC-MS. Isolated compound was identified as β-sitosterol. That is a terpenoid with melting point 133.4-134.5 ͦ c and with molecular formula C29H50O.

Molineria latifolia is a perennial-monocotyle-donous herb and it is well-known in the treatment of melasma, freckle and black spot in Thai traditional medicine. The purpose of this study was to determine the phytochemicals and antioxidant activity in the aerial parts and the underground parts of M. latifolia by water, ethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts. The phytochemicals were analyzed by HPTLC. The antioxidant activity was measured by using the DPPH radical scavenging activity assay, Ferric reducing antioxidant power assay and Total phenolic content was measured by Folin‑Ciocalteu. The result showed the highest antioxidant activity of the underground parts (RW) were extracted by water at EC50=245.03±6.59 µg/mL(DPPH) and 640.03±0.36 Fe2+/ mg (FRAP). Consequently, the highest phenolics content was found in the water extract of the aerial parts (LW) (191.70±1.64 µg FA/mg). M. latifolia extracts contain a bioactive compound of Tannin, Flavonoids and Steroid . Tannin and Flavonoid were found in both of parts. In the aerial parts were found steroid extracting by ethyl acetate and ethanolic, as the underground parts were seen steroid extracting by water. It was found that M. latifolia has high bioactive compounds and moderate antioxidant activity. These results for the cosmetic product development in the future.
