A three-dimensional electromagnetic crystal is employed as a directivity-enhancing superstrate for planar antennas. The crystal is a woodpile made of alumina rods. In a shielded anechoic chamber, the performance of a patch antenna covered with the woodpile is measured. The superstrate is positioned at different distances from the antenna and its orientation is varied in the 8–12 GHz frequency range. The return loss, gain and radiation pattern in the E- and H-planes are measured. The electromagnetic behavior of Fabry-Perot cavities with woodpile mirrors, equivalent to the compound radiator, is also studied. The main effect of the crystal on the antenna performance is an enhancement of about 10 dB in maximum gain. A rather complete series of experiments is presented, highlighting the role of the periodic structure in the directivity enhancement and allowing a deeper understanding of the electromagnetic phenomena involved in EBG resonator antennas. Benefits and disadvantages of this kind of antennas are discussed and ideas for future research are given.

A growing line of research has shown that individuals can regulate emotional biases in risky judgment and decision-making processes through cognitive reappraisal. In the present study, we focus on a specific tactic of reappraisal known as distancing. Drawing on appraisal theories of emotion and the emotion regulation literature, we examine how distancing moderates the relationship between fear and risk taking and anger and risk taking. In three pre-registered studies (Ntotal = 1,483), participants completed various risky judgment and decision-making tasks. Replicating previous results, Study 1 revealed a negative relationship between fear and risk taking and a positive relationship between anger and risk taking at low levels of distancing. Study 2 replicated the interaction between fear and distancing but found no interaction between anger and distancing. Interestingly, at high levels of distancing, we observed a reversal of the relationship between fear and risk taking in both Study 1 and 2. Study 3 manipulated emotion and distancing by asking participants to reflect on current fear-related and anger-related stressors from an immersed or distanced perspective. Study 3 found no main effect of emotion nor any evidence of a moderating role of distancing. However, exploratory analysis revealed a main effect of distancing on optimistic risk estimation, which was mediated by a reduction in self-reported fear. Overall, the findings suggest that distancing can help regulate the influence of incidental fear on risk taking and risk estimation. We discuss implications and suggestions for future research.

Within education, the importance of creativity is recognized as an essential 21st-century skill. Based on this premise, the first aim of this article is to provide a theoretical integration through the development of a framework based on the principles of complex dynamic systems theory, which describes and explains children’s creativity. This model is used to explain differing views on the role of education in developing children’s creativity. Our second aim is empirical integration. On the basis of a three-dimensional taxonomy, we performed a systematic review of the recent literature (2006–2017, 184 studies) on primary school students’ creativity. Our results show that creativity is most often measured as a static, aggregated construct. In line with our theoretical model, we suggest ways that future research can elaborate on the moment-to-moment interactions that form the basis of long-term creative development, as well as on the mechanisms that connect different levels of creativity.

ABSTRACT We present a series of images of different fetal intracranial, intrathoracic and intra-abdominal anomalies reconstructed using HDlive. It is a novel three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound modality that can provide the operator with naturally realistic features of any fetal anomalies. HDlive and its inversion mode are applied in several cases and two-dimensional (2D) sonographic images of different anomalies are also presented clearly to compare the advantages of HDlive in this article. This review focuses on the role of HDlive in the presence of such anomalies. HDlive should be a very useful aid in adjunct to other ultrasound modalities, specifically in cases that warrant detailed information. It can also be useful for the antenatal surveillance of anomalies, such as cystic lesions that may progress to complications. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among coaching leadership, contextual performance and creative behavior. Specifically, This study investigated not only the main effect of leader’s coaching leadership on subordinate's contextual performance and creative behavior, but also the role of organizational virtuousness and learning goal orientation on moderating these relationships. Survey was conducted to 250 employees working for 3 months at various korean companies. After elimination of inadequate data, 220 data were obtained for statistical analysis. Three steps of analysis procedures were carried out. First, factor analyses were conducted for identifying dimensions of coaching leadership, contextual performance, and organizational virtuousness. The results showed that factor structures of each of the variables were identical to those of previous studies. Second, the results of correlation analyses showed that coaching leadership was positively related to both contextual performance and creative behavior. Third, the results of hierarchial regression analyses showed that while organizational virtuousness moderated the relationship between coaching leadership and contextual performance, learning goal orientation did not moderated the relationship between coaching leadership and creative behavior. The implications and limitations of this study and the directions for future research were discussed on the basis of the results.

Facilitated by emerging technologies, the immersive digital museum reflects disruptive innovation in today’s tourism experience and offers a multidimensional experience different from traditional museums. To better understand how visitors respond to this innovative form of digital tourism, the current research investigates visitor experiences at the digital museum and achieves a threefold goal. First, this research delineates a three-dimensional digital museum visitor experience, namely, joviality, personal escapism, and localness. Built on this experiential framework, the present research further affirms that visual and auditory cues are the most powerful multisensory cue combination in enhancing a holistic visitor experience at the digital museum. This study also finds that emotional state and sense of presence mediate the relations between the multisensory cues and visitors’ digital museum experiences. This research contributes to the conceptualization of a digital museum experience, and provides a foundation for the future research endeavor of the new generation of digital tourism.

In research on trust in the organizational context, there is some agreement evolving that trust should be measured with respect to various foci. The Workplace Trust Survey (WTS) by Ferres (2002) provides reliable assessment of coworker, supervisor, and organizational trust. By means of a functionally equivalent translation, we developed a German version of the questionnaire (G-WTS) comprising 21 items. A total of 427 employees were surveyed with the G-WTS and questionnaires concerning several work-related attitudes and behaviors and 92 of these completed the survey twice. The hypothesized three-dimensional conceptualization of organizational trust was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The G-WTS showed good internal consistency and retest reliability values. Concerning convergent validity, all of the three G-WTS dimensions positively predicted job satisfaction. In terms of discriminant validity, Coworker Trust enhanced group cohesion; Supervisor Trust fostered innovative behavior, while Organizational Trust was associated with affective commitment. Theoretical and practical contributions as well as opportunities for future research with the G-WTS are discussed.

Abstract. This study investigated the mediating role of coping humor in the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and job satisfaction. Participants were 398 primary school teachers in China, who completed the Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, Coping Humor Scale, and Overall Job Satisfaction Scale. Results showed that coping humor was a significant mediator between EI and job satisfaction. A further examination revealed, however, that coping humor only mediated two sub-dimensions of EI (use of emotion and regulation of emotion) and job satisfaction. Implications for future research and limitations of the study are discussed.

A small but growing area of public administration scholarship appreciates the influence of religious values on various aspects of government. This appreciation parallels a growing interest in comparative public administration and indigenized forms of government which recognizes the role of culture in different approaches to government. This article is at the crossroads of these two trends while also considering a very salient region, the Islamic world. The Islamic world is uniquely religious, which makes this discussion even more relevant, as the nations that represent them strive towards legitimacy and stability. The history and core values of Islam need to be considered as they pertain to systems of government that are widely accepted by the people. In essence, this is being done in many countries across the Islamic world, providing fertile grounds for public administration research from a comparative perspective. This paper explores these possibilities for future research on this topic.
