SummaryThe aims of this study were to assess the quality of life among 120 schizophrenic patients who were attending a psychiatric outpatient department and to investigate which socio-demographic and clinical factors influenced their subjective quality of life. Quality of life was assessed by the Lanchashire quality of life profile, social functioning was judged according to the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale, and psychopathology was rated by means of the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Both objective and subjective life conditions indicated an impaired quality of life for the patients. The areas of finance and work had the largest proportion of dissatisfied patients. Socio-demographic indicators showed to have a weak influence on the patient's self-assessed quality of life while clinical factors, such as psychopathology, strongly influenced the patient's life satisfaction. It is concluded that there is a need for further emphasise on the clinical, financial, and social interventions for this group of patients.

The stigma of people living with HIV-AIDS (PLWHA) by health workers may have a broad impact, so it is necessary to identify the factors that influence the occurrence of stigma. Identification of factors that cause a decrease in stigmatization by health workers will have an impact on improving the quality of life of people with HIV, increasing compliance with medication, and ultimately reducing the incidence of HIV infection itself. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors related to PLWHA’s perception of stigma among health workers in the community health center.  This research applied a cross-sectional design using interviews. Ninety-four patients from the Infectious Disease Intermediate Care of Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya, a tertiary level hospital, were interviewed. The stigma perception was assessed using a questionnaire modified from the Standardized Brief Questionnaire by Health Policy Project with Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.786. The data were simultaneously analyzed with binary multiple regressions on IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 for Windows software. There were 30 out of 94 patients with key population backgrounds, and most population was injecting drug users (IDUs) and female sex workers (FSWs). PLWHA perceived most stigmatized community health workers when they drew blood, provided care, and considered they were involved in irresponsible behavior. There were relationships between age(p=0.008), marital status(p=0.013), and the history of key population (p=0.006)to people living with HIV-AIDS (PLWHA)’s perception of stigma among health workers in East Java community health center. Future research on factors influencing HIV-related stigma is needed to improve patients’ quality of life.

Schizophrenia affects around 0.3–0.7% people at some point in their lives - or 24 million people worldwide. This review covers topics of broad general interest that have seen significant development or progress in recent years. This paper aims to review the scientific literature of the past 10 years on metabolic syndrome regarding the quality of life of people with schizophrenia and the interventions carried out. A bibliographical search was conducted on Web of Science and PsycINFO, using the keywords of this study. More than 90 publications were found, 70 of which met the requirements. The main topic was schizophrenia, metabolic syndrome and quality of life. Those that focused on the effects of drugs were excluded. Although the association between mental illness and physical health problems has been convincingly demonstrated, numerous studies support the existence of dual physical health care neglect of people with schizophrenia. On the other hand, the modifiable risk factors are clearly defined to improve the physical health of these patients as well as the aspects which should be included in any approach to improve metabolic syndrome in particular, physical health in general, and thus modify the self-perceived quality of life. The data on psychoeducational treatments for this population were insufficient. However, some studies show that the implementation of behavioral interventions in clinical practice can help patients improve their overall health and prevent chronic disease. There are few studies on the application of ehealth devices to schizophrenic patients.

Background The quality of life as a concept beyond physical health stands one of the protuberant indexes, and various health-based studies required distinct measurements, which deemed necessary for their significant implications. The nurses fight at the front and play a leading role in providing services to patients at healthcare centers. They deserve a higher quality of life in catering to physical health services. This present study focuses on examining nurses' work-life quality standards and how demographic variables contribute to the hospital of Imam Reza in Kermanshah of Western Iran. Methods This descriptive-analytical study recruited a sample of 271 nurses affiliated with Imam Reza Hospital and Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences by incorporating the stratified random sampling in 2019. This study used a two-part questionnaire to collect data from the targeted respondents. The first part presented the participants' demographic profiles, and the second part showed the nurses' work‐related quality of life (WRQoL) on the scale developed by Van Laar et al. The study screened the data and performed analyses through the SPSS version-23. The research study conducted a descriptive analysis to measure mean and standard deviation with inferential statistics, including independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA (P < 0.05). Results The study findings specified that nurses’ average quality of the work-life was at a moderate level 3.11 ± 0.47. Besides, results indicated that 57.50% of the nurses reported high standards of quality of work-life, 36.50% showed a modest and 5.20% revealed a lower level of work-life quality. The findings indicated that the quality of work-life significantly correlated with respondent’' age, marital status, education, work experience, position, department, shifts, and employment status (p < 0.05). Conclusion The findings of this research demonstrated that the nurses’ quality of work-life was higher than the average standard. The results provide useful insight for nurses and hospital managers. The policymakers and health managers need to pay more attention to providing a better quality of work-life to the nurses.
