Tamarack (Larix laricina (DuRoi) K. Koch) produces long shoots which bear two kinds of needles. Early needles are present in the bud and elongate rapidly after budbreak. Late needles, few of which are present in the bud, elongate later than early needles. Short shoots bear early needles only, and stem length seldom exceeds 1 mm. Seasonal changes in length and weight of needles and stems of both shoot types were measured. In long shoots, 75% of stem elongation, more than 70% of stem weight increment, and 65–70% of late needle elongation occurred after early needles were full-sized. Stem and late needle elongation ceased simultaneously, after which time needle weight decreased and stem weight increased. Early needles probably drew on food reserves while developing, and then themselves contributed to stem and late needle elongation. Final stem weight increase probably used photosynthate from both late and early needles of the current year.Shading of current and last year's needles showed that shoots in which photosynthesis was interrupted in this way produced shorter, lighter-weight stems than did control shoots.

Changes in live weight and in the water, Na+ and K+ content of the tissues and faeces have been examined in adult male Periplaneta americana in various states of hydration. During dehydration the haemolymph volume decreases markedly, but the Na+ and K+ concentrations rise only slightly. Less than 25% of the Na+ removed from the haemolymph during dehydration was found to be excreted, but the K+ excreted during dehydration was in excess of that removed from the haemolymph alone. It seems likely that the major tissue for regulating the haemolymph Na+ during dehydration and rehydration is the fat body, in which dehydration causes an increase, and rehydration a decrease, in the Na:K ratio. The Na+ and K+ content of the fat body was found to be variable in both hydrated and dehydrated animals and absolute changes in the ion content of the tissue could not be estimated because of unknown changes in the amount of food reserves and excretory products.

AbstractPregnant women are very susceptible to anemia due to lack of food reserves and before pregnancy they were already anemic. Pregnant women need more iron intake than before pregnancy. Problems in pregnant women are problems in pregnancy that can cause anemia. This literature review aims to determine the description of the incidence of anemia in pregnant women from various articles. This study uses a descriptive method with a literature review approach. Search articles through PubMed and Google Scholar according to keywords and then analyzed according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and found 5 articles and reviewed using the Joanna Instrument (JBI). The description of the incidence of anemia in pregnant women showed anemia as many as 258 respondents (35.3%) and those who experienced anemia were not as many as 472 respondents (64.7%). In this literature review, it was concluded that most pregnant women did not experience anemia.Keywords: Anemia, Pregnant Women AbstrakIbu hamil sangat rentan mengalami anemia karena cadangan makanan kurang dan pada saat sebelum hamil sudah mengalami anemia. Ibu hamil membutuhkan asupan zat besi yang lebih banyak dibandingkan saat sebelum hamil. Permasalahan pada ibu hamil adalah masalah – masalah dalam kehamilan yang dapat menimbulkan anemia. Literatur Review ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Gambaran Kejadian Anemia Pada Ibu Hamil dari berbagai artikel. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan literature review. Pencarian artikel melalui PubMed dan Google Scholar sesuai dengan kata kunci kemudian dianalisa sesuai dengan keriteria inklusi dan ekslusi dan ditemukan 5 artikel dan di review menggunakan Instrument Joanna (JBI). Gambaran kejadian Anemia pada ibu hamil didapatkan hasil anemia sebanyak 258 responden (35,3%) dan yang mengalami tidak anemia sebanyak 472 responden (64,7%). Dalam penelitian literature review ini disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar ibu hamil tidak mengalami anemia.Kata kunci : Anemia, Ibu Hamil

Changes in the anatomy, morphology, and stored food reserves of stratifying (5 °C) sugar maple embryos were followed from a strongly dormant state through germination. The correlation of cell division and cell elongation with radicle protrusion was also investigated. No morphological or anatomical changes were observed before first maturation of phloem elements on the 17th day of stratification. Mature xylem elements were first observed on day 37, and first germination was noted on day 38. Radicle protrusion was initiated by cell elongation, and cell division was not active for several days after emergence and a marked increase in lengths of the axes had occurred. Changes in amounts of protein, lipid, and starch were not observed during the stratification period, but mobilization of stored reserves was clearly evident with emergence of the radicles. Several of these key events appeared to be closely associated with previously described peaks and patterns of growth regulator activity.

Based on the documents of the National Archives of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), published reviews and reports of the regional administration, the creation of state and public grain and food reserves in the 19th century Yakutsk region that were necessary for the population to protect them from starvation and mortality in cattle during adverse years is considered. The main attention is paid to the influence of the bread storage system on the distribution of agriculture, the development of traditional crafts and occupations of foreigners, the development of loan and entrepreneurship. It is noted that, with the efforts and purposeful work of the regional government in Yakutia in the 19th century, along with state-owned shops, a network of rural public bakery stores was created that could adequately provide the population of the region with food, hay and other reserves. It is shown that the organization of a food safety system in the Yakutsk region was based on the principles of a careful attitude of the state to the needs of its subjects, which significantly increased the importance of government events, strengthened the authority and trust of the population in the activities of government. It is concluded that the process of organizing the bread storage system and food funds created favorable conditions for the spread of agriculture in the region, supported traditional crafts and occupations of the population, and opened up opportunities for the development of entrepreneurship.

The aims of this research are to analyze the level of food security, the factors that influence the level of household food security, and efforts to increase the level of food security of palm oil farmer households.   The location of this research is chosen purposively in Bangunrejo Sub district, Central Lampung Regency in which respondents are 75 palm oil farmers household.  The data were collected in January – March 2019 using a survey method and analyzed using cross-classification between the share of food expenditure and energy adequacy level, ordinal logistic regression, and descriptive qualitative analysis.  The results of the research showed that the majority of farmer households (61.33%) were classified as food secure, and the rest were classified as less food secure (28%), vulnerable to food (9.33%), and food insecure (1.33%).  The affecting factors on the level of food security were formal education level of housewives, households’ income, and number of household members. The efforts to increase the level of food security by Government were through monitoring food availability and food reserves, developing food distribution and stabilization of food prices, Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH), Raskin, and Bantuan Pangan Non Tunai (BPNT). Whereas, the efforts by palm oil farmer households were food loan (93.33%) and changing dietary habit (6.67%).Key words: cross-clasification, food security, palm oil farmer households
