In the textbook, for the first time, a comprehensive comparison of traditional macroeconomics with the theory of modern neo-ricardianism is carried out. A new model of the historical devel-opment of macroeconomic knowledge is presented, which makes it possible to more clearly iden-tify and more effectively solve its main problems. The existing models of economic equilibrium and growth are critically and constructively analyzed, the concepts of economic regulation based on the system of social parameters are considered. Recommended for undergraduates, postgraduates, university professors and researchers specializing in economics.

Abstract Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution (HBOI) designed, built and has operated two JOHNSON-SEA-LINK (JSL) manned submersibles for the past 25 years. The JSL submersibles each incorporate a 66–68 in. (1.6764–1.7272 m) OD, 4–5.25 in. (0.1016–0.13335 m) thick acrylic two-man sphere as a Pressure Vessel for Human Occupancy (PVHO). This type of spherical acrylic sphere or submersible was first introduced in around 1970 and is known as Naval Experimental Manned Observatory (NEMO) submersibles. As the demand increases for ocean exploration to 3000 ft. (914.4 m) depth to collect samples, to study the ocean surfaces, the problem of developing cracks at the interface of these manned acrylic submersibles following few hundred dives have become a common phenomena. This has drawn considerable attentions for reinvestigation of the spherical acrylic submersible in order to overcome this crack generation problem at the interface. Therefore, a new full-scale 3-D nonlinear FEA (Finite Element Analysis) model, similar to the spherical acrylic submersible that HBOI uses for ocean exploration, has been developed for the first time in order to simulate the structural behavior at the interface and throughout the sphere, for better understanding of the mechanical behavior. Variation of the stiffness between dissimilar materials at the interface, lower nylon gasket thickness, over designed aluminum hatch are seemed to be few of the causes for higher stresses within acrylic sphere at the nylon gasket/acrylic interface. Following the basic understanding of the stresses and relative displacements at the interface and within different parts of the submersible, various models have been developed on the basis of different shapes and thickness of nylon gaskets, openings of the acrylic sphere, hatch geometry and its materials, specifically to study their effect on the overall performance of the acrylic submersible. Finally, the new model for acrylic submersible has been developed by redesigning the top aluminum hatch and hatch ring, the sphere openings at both top and bottom, as well as the nylon gasket inserts. Altogether this new design indicates a significant improvement over the existing spherical acrylic submersible by reducing the stresses at the top gasket/acrylic interface considerably. Redesigning of the bottom penetrator plate, at present, is underway. In this paper, results from numerical modeling only are reported in details. Correlation between experimental-numerical modeling results for the new model will be reported in the near future.

This chapter presents and discusses the experience of two university professors' participation in two different study abroad programs. Within the first two years of employment at the university, one professor went to Oaxaca and the other went to Ireland with groups of pre-student teachers. The chapter discusses previous literature and the impact of study abroad programs on teacher education, program basics from the authors' university, the authors' personal experiences travelling with students for the first time, commonalities and differences among the two programs, benefits from their experiences, and ideas for further development of effective study abroad programs for education students.

Community Child Health Nursing Services provide support for new mothers; however, the focus has often been on individual consultations, complemented by a series of group sessions soon after birth. We describe a new model of community care for first-time mothers that centres on group sessions throughout the whole contact period. The model was developed by practicing child health nurses for a large health service district in south-east Queensland, which offers a comprehensive community child health service. Issues identified by clinicians working within existing services, feedback from clients and the need for more resource-efficient methods of service provision underpinned the development of the model. The pilot program was implemented in two community child health centres in Brisbane. An early individual consultation to engage the family with the service was added in response to feedback from clinicians and clients. The modified model has since been implemented service-wide as the ‘First Steps Program’. The introduction of this model has ensured that the service has been able to retain a comprehensive service for first-time parents from a universal population, while responding to the challenges of population growth and the increasing number of complex clients placing demands on resources.

AbstractThe advent of large spectroscopic surveys of the Galaxy offers the possibility to compare Galactic models to actual measurements for the first time. I have developed a tool for the comprehensive comparison of any large data set to the predictions made by models of the Galaxy using sophisticated statistical methods, and to visualise the results for any given direction. This enables us to point out systematic differences between the model and the measurements, as well as to identify new (sub-)structures in the Galaxy. These results can then be used to improve the models, which in turn will allow us to find even more substructures like stellar streams, moving groups, or clusters. In this paper I show the potential of this tool by applying it to the RAdial Velocity Experiment (RAVE, Steinmetz 2003) and the Besançon model of the Galaxy Robin et al. 2003.

This paper proposed a new model of computer Go based on patterns and designed CGML (a new markup language based on XML)for computer Go, and applied the G/S cloud for computer Go for the first time. Connection relations (patterns) were used to construct basic model of Go. This new idea was an ideal and practical solution to the problem of computer Go.

Abstract In this study, carbon dots (CDs) synthesized by hydrothermal method with amino-rich surface exhibit tunable fluorescence across entire visible range by simply controlling the concentration. A comprehensive comparison has been performed for the first time between concentration-induced aggregation of the single-type CDs and electrostatic-induced agglomeration of opposite-charged CDs in terms of their fluorescence properties. Experimental results show that both the aggregation of CDs and internal absorption filtration are possible causes of the concentration-dependent fluorescence emission. Subsequently, the inter distance of adjacent CDs in their aggregates was enlarged by forming rigid double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) between adjacent CDs through base pairing. It is clear that the contact of CDs induces the changes of fluorescence emission and light absorption. Through a better understanding of the mechanisms behind concentration-induced multicolor emission, this work can provide a novel strategy to develop the advanced applications of CDs.

In this chapter, a new model of a tumor growth is dynamically investigated. The model is presented in a form of a system of three ordinary differential equations, which describe the avascular, vascular, and metastasis tumor growth, respectively. For the investigation of system's dynamics and especially of the population of the immune cells in system's behavior, some of the most well-known tools from nonlinear theory, such as the phase portrait, the Poincaré map, the bifurcation diagram the Kaplan-Yorke dimension, and the Lyapunov exponents have been used. Interesting phenomena related with chaos theory, such as a period-doubling route to chaos, crisis phenomena, and antimonotonicity, have been revealed for the first time in this model.

A comprehensive revision of the species of the genus Ommatoiulus in Andalusia, southern Spain, is carried out for thefirst time, revealing the presence of a total of 19 species, among which are one new record for the country, one for con-tinental Spain, two new records for Andalusia and 10 species new to science: Ommatoiulus baenai, O. baileyi, O. hoff-mani, O. jaenensis, O. kimei, O. pseudoflagellatus, O. recueroi, O. reipi, O. sabinarensis, O. schubarti n.spp. Thefollowing taxa are synonymised: Schizophyllum hoplites Verhoeff, 1910, S. diplurum appendiculatum Brolemann,1925, and Ommatoiulus diplurus mauriesi Hoffman, 1975, are regarded as junior synonyms of Ommatoiulus diplurus(Attems, 1903), n.syn. Schizophyllum dorsovittatum estrellanum Verhoeff, 1910, and S. calatravanum Brolemann,1920, are junior synonyms of Ommatoiulus dorsovittatus (Verhoeff, 1893), n.syn. Schizophyllum nivale Schubart,1959, is a junior synonym of Omnmatoiulus ilicis (Brölemann, 1896), n.syn. Full descriptions and diagnostic notes areprovided for all the species with accounts on their distributions, habitats, and notes discussing their taxonomy. A di-chotomous identification key, based on gonopod structures, is presented to facilitate species identification. In the dis-cussion section, the general patterns of species distribution are underlined, showing a clear tendency to ‘endemism’ forthe majority of species and to polymorphism for species with broader distribution ranges, especially O. diplurus. A dis-junct distribution Andalusia/Pyrenees is registered for O. ilicis. A comprehensive comparison of gonopods is attempt-ed, and three main types of gonopod configuration are delimited, denoting a wide range of structural complexity. Thefovea, a cavity in the posterior gonopods, is explored for the first time with scanning electron microscopy, revealing anagglutination of spermatozoa and confirming Verhoeff’s original observation dating back nearly 120 years. The con-stancy of the fovea in all Schizophyllini, combined with its absence in the rest of the julids, provides an additional apomorphy for the tribe.

AbstractHodostates Foerster is revised, representing the first comprehensive comparison of Nearctic and European species. Three species are recognized as valid, and the Nearctic Hodostates rotundatus (Davis) is recorded from Canada for the first time. Hodostates schaffneri Hinz is transferred to Lethades Davis, based largely on ovipositor morphology, and is redescribed. Placement in the tribe Pionini is discussed, given the presence of a deep subapical notch in the ovipositor of both New and Old World species of Hodostates. Host records for Hodostates are reviewed.

ABSTRACTStart is the main decision point in the eukaryotic cell cycle at which cells commit to a new round of cell division. It involves the irreversible activation of a transcriptional programme through the inactivation of Start transcriptional repressors: the retinoblastoma family in mammals, or Whi5 and its recently identified paralogue Whi7 (also known as Srl3) in budding yeast. Here, we provide a comprehensive comparison of Whi5 and Whi7 that reveals significant qualitative differences. Indeed, the expression, subcellular localization and functionality of Whi7 and Whi5 are differentially regulated. Importantly, Whi7 shows specific properties in its association with promoters not shared by Whi5, and for the first time, we demonstrate that Whi7, and not Whi5, can be the main contributor to Start inhibition such as it occurs in the response to cell wall stress. Our results help to improve understanding of the interplay between multiple differentially regulated Start repressors in order to face specific cellular conditions.
