Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the development of institutional repositories (IR) in tertiary institution libraries in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted a survey research method. Online questionnaire and IR site investigation methods were used to collect data from 25 university libraries in Nigeria. Findings The study revealed that only 25 (14.7%) universities out of the 170 universities in Nigeria have successfully developed IRs and registered their presence in OpenDOAR. Other tertiary institutions such as Polytechnics and Colleges of Education investigated in Nigeria are yet to develop IRs. Contents such as theses and dissertations, conference proceedings and journal articles ranked highest being the most popular contents in the various IRs. The results showed that the development of IR saves space in the library, increases readership, increases access to local contents, minimizes damage to the original material, facilitates the dissemination of scholarly research and assists in globalization of Nigerian research findings. The IRs site investigation revealed that only few IRs have clearly defined access policy, content policy, submission policy and digital preservation policy. The study identified challenges such as inadequate facilities, unstable internet connectivity, lack of fund, irregular power supply, challenge of collecting materials for the IR, lack of skilled ICT personnel, copyright issues and absence of IR policies. Practical implications The results from the study will provide important data and insight into the development of institutional repositories in tertiary institution libraries in Nigeria, and generate suggestions for University Librarians, College Librarians, Polytechnic Librarians, tertiary institutions management and policy makers for developing institutional repositories in Nigeria and other developing countries. Originality/value The study investigated IR development in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The findings will inform other tertiary institutions in developing countries that the development of IR provides an opportunity for the visibility of local contents emanating from institutions and make them see the reason to embrace this laudable development.

Student readiness continues to be an issue among the professoriate (Cramer, 2010; Greenberg, 2010; Kelley, 2010).  Enrolment growth trends in Canadian universities suggest this concern may remain prevalent for some time (Overall, 2011).  At the secondary level, government bodies have developed and implemented policies and standardized assessment instruments with the expressed means of improving accountability and student academic proficiency.  Despite these efforts, there does not appear to be a perceived change in the readiness of students attending tertiary institutions.  The purposes of this study were to determine the current state of alignment between high school and university learning outcomes and assessment standards, and outline policies/factors that would establish or strengthen this alignment.

Open Access (OA) atau akses terbuka dapat menjadi jalan alternatif dalam menyebarkan informasi ilmiah kepada seluruh dunia tanpa dibatasi ruang dan waktu. Repositori institusi atau instutional repository (IR) telah banyak diaplikasikan pada beberapa perguruan tinggi di Indonesia. Tulisan ini mendeskripsikan pemetaan perkembangan repositori institusi perguruan tinggi di Indonesia yang open akses dan perangkat lunak yang digunakannya pada portal OpenDOAR. Penelitian ini terbatas pada repositori institusi perguruan tinggi yang telah terdaftar di OpenDoar saja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan jumlah perkembangan repositori di Indonesia pada OpenDOAR mulai dari tahun 2008 hingga 2018 ini. Sementara perangkat lunak yang digunakan ialah Eprints, Dspace, dan lainnya.ABSTRACT Open Access (OA) can be an alternative way of disseminating scientific information to the globe without limited by space and time. Institutional repositories (IR) have been widely applied to several universities in Indonesia. This paper describes the mapping of the development of open access institutional universities in Indonesia and the software used from the OpenDOAR website. This research is limited to the repository of tertiary institutions that have been registered in OpenDoar only. The results showed that there was an increase in the number of repository developments in Indonesia in OpenDOAR starting from 2008 to 2018. While the software used is Eprints, Dspace, and others.

Australian sport psychology was effectively “launched” in conjunction with the establishment of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in 1981. Prior to this date, sport psychology sat within the realm of a small number of research academics in tertiary institutions and many more unqualified practitioners with backgrounds in sport, hypnotherapy, medicine, and marketing and sales. The commencement of the legitimacy of the profession in the early 1980s correlated with the co-location of the AIS Sport Psychology Department with other sports medicine and sports science disciplines. From this rather humble but significant beginning, Australian sport psychology quickly became integrated into the training and competition plans of the vast majority of Australian Olympic sports and the developing professional football, tennis, golf, and cricket codes. The rapid growth of the AIS and its team of qualified and experienced sport psychology practitioners, combined with international competition exposure, international conference presentations, reciprocal visits to international sports institutes, and Olympic training centers culminated in the inclusion of sport psychology within the auspices of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the accreditation of undergraduate and postgraduate tertiary programs in Australian universities. Applied sport psychology services are now a regular inclusion in most, if not all, Australian sports programs. An increasing emphasis on athlete and coach mental health in conjunction with the performance enhancement capability associated with sport psychology support has firmly entrenched the profession within the Australian sporting milieu.

The present article discusses the drawbacks in strategic planning of higher education internationalization on the meso level (universities) in Armenia and possible impact of internationalization strategy development on the macro level (national). It seeks to identify the major issues and outlines some recommendations for further planning and performance improvements in higher education internationalization. Thereby, it draws upon the findings of survey and study conducted within the framework of Erasmus + HARMONY project on the level of internationalization, research and innovation of higher education in Armenia.

This study seeks to ascertain academic staff level of motivation, dissatisfaction and performance at work. The study employed a survey research method to collect research data from academic staff of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Nigeria. A total of 141 or 64% of the academic staff of the University were sampled out of a population of 219 academic staff. Descriptive statistical tools were used to measure the research variables. The study reveals that academic staffs are very highly motivated at work and also highly contented with the working environment. The study further revealed that staff performance as it relates to teaching is very high while their performance in the areas of research and other publications is moderate. It is therefore recommended that universities and other tertiary institutions should take the issue if academic staff motivation seriously to facilitate effective teaching and delivery of knowledge.
