The objective of this paper is to explore how gender stereotypes influence social structures which creates barriers for non-custodial fathers (NCF) and to identify possible solutions to challenge societal prejudice. The findings suggested that gender stereotypes shape NCF’s perception of fatherhood, the mother’s opinion of NCFs, the proceedings during a custody battle, and the type of social services provided to NCFs. These act as barriers that negatively affect NCF-child relationships, which are further diminished by non-cooperative mother-father relationships. Surprisingly, stepfamilies were found to improve NCF-child relationships. Remote fathering was found to be detrimental to children’s development that can result in poor socioemotional adjustment, increased externalized problems, diminished abilities to form strong bonds with friends, and feeling lonely. It was also found that absent fathers increased the risk of their children developing behavioural problems, engaging in criminal behaviour, and experience poverty. Based on qualitative data, possible solutions outreach programs created through community collaboration, that promote education, empathy and respect. For more problematic NCF visitation, perhaps a version of the Israeli visitation center could be used. In sum, these conceptual solutions can challenge gender stereotypes and social prejudice which benefits NCFs and family as a social institution.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide a sector-based analysis of the drivers for social entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector. Design/methodology/approach – The paper uses qualitative data from two studies in the Danish region of Northern Jutland. The data include responses from 38 farmers who offered or had considered offering social services. The analytical framework is taken from a review of the limited literature on Green Care and Social Farming and social entrepreneurship theory. Findings – Strong and consistent tools for the categorisation of farmers’ social entrepreneurship have been developed. However, these tools have merely been used descriptively rather than to create proactive agriculture policies to facilitate social entrepreneurship. In Region Northern Jutland social entrepreneurship in farming is driven by a combination of tradition, close relationships and coincidence. It is ad hoc, with each initiative starting from scratch because no knowledge or experience has been gathered or distributed. Research limitations/implications – The agricultural sector-based approach to social entrepreneurship will not be discussed against other approaches to social entrepreneurship. This would be a suggestion for another more conceptual kind of article in the future. Originality/value – A study of social entrepreneurship among farmers has not yet been coupled with a sector-based analytical framework. This paper contributes to the literature of social entrepreneurship by supplementing with an agricultural sector-based approach.

AbstractSocial Institution Bina Grahita Harapan Ibu (PSBGHI) is the only social institution in West Sumatra Province who provide social services and rehabilitation for people with mental disabilities. Persons with disabilities who are in the shelter are from various districts / cities in West Sumatra which amounted to 100 people. This orphanage is located in Kalumbuk, Padang City with an area of 5,007 m2. Since the implementation of regional autonomy, PSBGHI employees totaling 44 people either civil servants and honorarium received minimally training, seminars, even a refresher material. Partners in this IbM classified into 2 groups: 1) group of civil power as many as 24 people, with educational background is not a disability, and 2) a group of honorary staff of 20 people. Problems formulated partners namely the lack of knowledge about reproduction and sexuality in the development of persons with disabilities, reproductive problems / sexuality of persons with disabilities, and to tackle the problem. Results showed an increase understanding of sexuality and handling of sexuality problems encountered in children with disabilities. Therefore, the provision of material and playback video in the form of seminar is one alternative that can be given.Keywords : disability, seminars, PSBGHIAbstrakPanti Sosial Bina Grahita Harapan Ibu (PSBGHI) merupakan satu-satunya panti sosial di Propinsi Sumatera Barat yang memberikan pelayanan dan rehabilitasi sosial bagi penyandang cacat mental (disabilitas). Panti ini berlokasi di Kalumbuk, Kota Padang dengan luas area 5.007 m2. Semenjak pemberlakuan otonomi daerah, pegawai PSBGHI yang berjumlah 44 orang baik PNs maupun honor sangat minim sekali memperoleh pelatihan, seminar, bahkan penyegaran materi. Mitra pada IbM ini diklasifikasikan atas 2 kelompok yaitu 1) kelompok tenaga PNS sebanyak 24 orang, dengan latar pendidikan bukan disabilitas, dan 2) kelompok tenaga honorer sebanyak 20 orang. Permasalahan mitra yang dirumuskan yaitu minimnya wawasan tentang perkembangan reproduksi dan seksualitas pada penyandang disabilitas, permasalahan reproduksi/seksualitas penyandang disabilitas, dan penanganan permasalahannya. Hasil menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pemahaman tentang perkembangan seksualitas dan upaya penanganan permasalahan yang ditemui pada anak penyandang disabilitas. Oleh karena itu pemberian materi dan pemutaran video dalam bentuk seminar merupakan salah satu alternatif yang dapat diberikan.Kata kunci : disabilitas, seminar, PSBGHI

Abstract Mixed economies of welfare have seen increasing numbers of service users funnelled into voluntary, rather than statutory sector services. Many service users with (complex) human needs now fall within the remit of ill-researched voluntary organisations that are rarely social work led. Voluntary sector practitioners comprise a large and rising proportion of the social services workforce, but their experiences have received minimal analysis. Despite the importance of emotions across the helping professions, voluntary sector practitioners’ emotional experiences are largely unknown. We address this gap, using an innovative bricolage of original qualitative data from England and Canada to highlight how ‘emotions matter for penal voluntary sector (PVS) practitioners across diverse organisational roles, organisational contexts, and national jurisdictions’. We examine the emotions of paid and volunteer PVS practitioners relating to their (i) organisational contexts and (ii) relationships with criminalised service users. Problematising positive, evocative framings of ‘citizen participation’, we argue that continuing to overlook voluntary sector practitioners’ emotions facilitates the downloading of double neo-liberal burdens—‘helping’ marginalised populations and generating the funds to do so—onto individual practitioners, who are too often ill-equipped to manage them.

Background:A number of previous studies have concluded that long-term unemployment is destructive to health.Objective:This study examined health behavior and self-assessed health of some long-term unemployed persons living in the city of Turku, in Southwestern Finland.Methodology:The qualitative data were collected from February to March 2016 from 40 long-term unemployed men and women, aged between 31 to 63 years.Results:Of the participants 85% (n=34) reported that their long-term unemployment situation had had a negative impact on their health. There were 95% (n=36) who needed medical care because of their health condition. There were 59% (n=24) who were not satisfied with the healthcare and social services compared to 49% (n=16) who were satisfied with the services.Conclusion:There were more single men than single women among the participants. Half of the participants had a profession of which the women constituted the majority. Several participants were suffering from a chronic disease. The participants were not satisfied of their lives and attributed their health behavior and poor health conditions to their long-term unemployment situation. They were not satisfied also with the healthcare and social services provided to them.

Abstract The Estonian child helpline service launched in 2009 uses a free nationwide 24h Child Helpline phone number. The purpose of the service is to enable everyone to report on children in need, forward the information to specialists and, if necessary, get primary social counselling and crisis counselling for children and other people. The service is provided in accordance with the Estonian Child Protection Act that prescribes that all citizens are required to immediately notify the social services, police or other assistanceproviding authorities about children in need of protection or assistance. This article is based on studies conducted between 2013 and 2015. In the course of the research, data were collected for increasing the effectiveness of the hotline’s communication campaigns. In addition to the general objective of the article, the data collected includes quantitative research mixed with qualitative data that helps to understand the factors that encourage and inhibit the use of the hotline service. The focus is on indicators that illustrate the effectiveness of the diffusion of innovation, and special attention is paid to the results that highlight risk, the existence of mental barriers and trust. Finally, the study analyses the weaknesses of past hotline campaigns and makes some suggestions for future.

Objective: The study is a descriptive survey based on quantitative and qualitative data. Its purpose is to describe leaders’ self-assessed competence and learning needs in small and medium-sized health and social care enterprises as part of a larger research and development project in Finland. The information produced will be used in planning a simulation-based coaching intervention. The project partners are a health technology enterprise and two educational institutions.Methods: Data were collected in late 2017 from 23 leaders of 20 enterprises using an internet-based questionnaire. The quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS for Windows and the qualitative data using inductive content analysis.Results: The leaders felt confident about their ability to organize day-to-day activities, but reported learning needs related to interaction and entrepreneurship. Training was required in supporting staff in challenging situations, in understanding group dynamics and in developing dialogic interaction and emotional intelligence. The leaders were interested in learning how to market their services and improve the competitiveness of their enterprise with help of digitalization and networking, and how to prepare for the reform of health and social services. Most leaders were involved in practical care work and reported a need to update their clinical skills.Conclusions: Increasing self-management contents and fostering an entrepreneurial attitude in nursing and social work curricula may provide one answer to the learning needs reported in this study. Simulation-based education can provide an effective learning environment for both students and professionals in health and social services.

Social work is aimed at meeting the vital and social needs of man. An important mission is assigned by the state to the head of a social institution who has a high level of professional competence. Competence is a key concept that characterizes the quality of professional training of the head of a social institution, his readiness for social activities and is one of the important factors in improving the quality of social services in the state. The essential features of the state personnel policy confirm the need for high professional competence in public administration. Competence is a concept that logically comes from attitudes to values and from skills to knowledge. The head of a social institution must have formed civic competencies, which is a prerequisite for national security. Participation in international projects (for example, in the Swiss-Ukrainian project "Development of Civic Competences in Ukraine – DOCCU") aims to use the best international experience in the formation of civic competences, promotes awareness of educators, civil servants, local governments on democratic citizenship and human rights. The structure of civic competence of the head of a social institution, which contains cognitive, value and activity components. Such projects contribute to the creation of conditions for the head of a social institution to acquire skills of civil law activity, self-organization and self-government. Conclusions and prospects for further research. So, based on the above, we came to the following conclusions: - the level of formation of civic competencies of the head of the social institution is an indicator of his readiness to perform his professional duties; - civic competencies of the head of a social institution, based on the national interests of the state, are an important prerequisite for national security; - We see the introduction of the obligatory discipline "Formation of civic competencies of the future head of a social institution" in the educational program "Social work" as a promising direction of further research.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinds of field education experiences that social services students (N = 113) regard as meaningful. The theoretical structure was based on a ”purpose of life” framework (Damon, Menon & Bronk 2003). Pursuing a helping profession is identified as a life purpose whenit is a personally meaningful long-term life goal that is intentionally realized by benefiting others. Based on quantitative and qualitative data, the study relates the students’ meaningful field education experiences to a sense of community, learning professional competencies, and learning related to the self. Students’ confidence in helping and in social advocacy increased after their field education, and they were less concerned with searching for purpose. Helping seems to be an important life goal for the students but explicitly reflecting its pro-social meanings does not seem apparent.

Considering the importance of providing services for the elderly, the social institution Tresna Werdha also manages the day care service program, where this service is very helpful for the elderly who need services to create social relationships. Services provided through day care services are social services, physical services, psychosocial services, skills services, spiritual and religious services and providing economic business assistance. This service is an activity to increase productivity in order to increase income and as a place or facility for positive activities in the utilization of leisure time for the elderly.Research design is descriptive with a sample of 88 people using purposive sampling divided into two groups, namely 44 elderly people in each group. Data collection techniques using oxford happiness questionnaire sheet while the analysis used with Mann Whitney Test (alpha 0.05)Based on the results of the study, it was found that there were differences in happiness levels in elderly beneficiaries and not beneficiaries of day care service programs (p = 0,000). Elderly beneficiaries of the dominant day care service program have a high level of happiness as evidenced by the number of elderly in the category of high happiness 37 people (84.1%) compared to the elderly who did not receive the benefits of the day care service program as evidenced by the number of 26 people (59.1%) . Elders who attend their day care service get family support and services from social care institutions in the form of physical, skills, psychosocial, spiritual and religious services and can meet with peers. Keywords: Elderly Happiness, Day Care Service

Language is the most effective tool of communication across cultures. Proverbs are one such component of stylistic poetic and rhetoric devices which serves to communicate the worldview of an ethnic group. The paper is an analysis of ways in which gender differences are perceived, symbolized, portrayed, expressed and promoted rhetorically through the use of proverbs amongst various ethnic groups in Pakistan such as Pashto, Saraiki, Urdu and Sindhi consistent with the Whorfian hypothesis of linguistic determinism and relativism. The study employs qualitative data using the descriptive methodology. Discourse analysis of the secondary data and participant observations cast as primary methodological approaches has been gauged to decipher the meanings and intent of the proverbs. The study findings suggest that meanings of proverbs and messages are context-bound and reflect power dynamics rooted in conventional gender roles which serve to construct and deconstruct the notion of 'womanhood' in the ethnicities mentioned above.
