Purpose: This study aimed to analyze and explain the implementation of venture capital financing at PT. Sarana Ventura on MSMEs in terms of maslahah aspectDesign/Method/Approach: This was descriptive qualitative field research. The subjects were the leaders, the divisions of VCO & investment, legal, and agents of MSMEs at PT. Sarana Ventura in Yogyakarta. The data collection used observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The data analysis consisted of four stages, namely, data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification.Findings: The results showed that first, the distribution process of financing conducted by PT. Sarana Ventura is in the form of equity without charging any interest payment but applying the concept of revenue sharing to avoid usury. Second, the distribution process of financing to MSMEs is free from gharar by implementing the principle of the contractual agreement as well as a consensual principle in agreeing. Third, however, the capital distribution to the actors of micro, small and medium enterprises has not yet met the principle of justice because the firm is only willing to provide venture capital to medium scale enterprises which have been running and developing, not for new small scale enterprises (startup).Originality/Values: The main contribution of this study is expected to make venture capital companies more open and competitive in the future in advancing MSMEs.

Purpose: The objective of this paper is to determine the effect of venture capital financing on investment in Kenya. Methodology: To achieve the objective of the study, venture capital was disaggregated into two variables, namely, the number of firms financed and the total amount of financing. Other variables, such as interest rate and GDP per capita were also included in the analysis to act as control variables. The study used 10 years of data spanning from 2009 to 2018. A regression analysis was done in order to analyze the data. Results: The study established that there is a positive correlation between the number of firms financed and the aggregate investment in Kenya. The study observed that the total amount of financing has a positive correlation with aggregate investment. Implications: The study concludes that venture capital financing has a positive effect on aggregate investment levels in Kenya. The study recommends that the Kenyan government should come up with ways of financing small and medium enterprises, which will boost their productive capacities leading to more investment in the country and more generation of income.

So far, the role of venture capital has not been optimal, or it can be said that while it is not working. In practice, in Indonesia, venture capital companies carry out their business like banking. That until now, in general, venture capital companies practice more as credit providers as the usual practice of providing bank loans. All requirements and conditions requested for a business partner company (actually: a debtor) are like a bank in giving credit. Therefore a legal reform of venture capital financing institutions is needed to optimize financing for micro, small, and medium enterprises to realize national development.

The article focuses on the study of prevailing decision making styles of Small Scale Industrial (SSI) Units. It presents data collected from 200 SSI units from Bhavnagar – a coastal city of Gujarat, India. The objective of writing the article is to depict heuristic decision patterns of small and medium enterprises, and the rare use of analytical or statistical business intelligence tools in decision making processes. It would be interesting to study the design of decision taken on routine basis in small units, poorly equipped with technology and technical know-how. The paper is descriptive in terms, and lays a lucid picture of present decision making processes.

Purpose This paper aims to examine technical efficiency and its determinants in Indian textile garments industry in post-agreement on textiles and clothing regime and evaluate the technical efficiency among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) firms. Design/methodology/approach This study uses unbalanced panel data for the period 2005–2010 to 2015–2016. The stochastic frontier function is used to estimate technical efficiency and its determinants. Findings The results show that the overall ecosystem of textile garments’ value chains could be improved to enhance the technical efficiency thereof. The result also reveals that small-scale firms have the highest technical efficiency scores, and medium-scale firms have the least technical efficiency score among all the categories of MSMEs. Research limitations/implications The textile garments industry needs to define its innovation strategies, as these strategies lead to different results that can be achieved only through the management of resources dedicated to the generation and implementation of innovations. Practical implications This study has shown that to offset India’s cost disadvantage in the international markets, there is a need to develop an ecosystem of textile manufacturing and value chains, eliminate the inverted duty structure (where inputs are taxed at a higher rate than the final product) and switch over from shuttle looms toward shuttle-less looms. This would unleash the potential of textile and garments industry and make it globally competitive and technically efficient. Further, there will be an alignment with the ease of doing business with an appropriate mix of policy, technology, institution, infrastructure, information and services. Originality/value Using frontier production function takes stochastic context into account for the dynamic character of technical efficiency and its components. Most of the past studies have assessed technical efficiency at the aggregate level using three-digit National Industrial Classification (NIC) or four-digit NIC code. An analysis at higher levels of aggregation masks the variation in technical efficiency. This study used five-digit NIC data to measure the firm-specific technical efficiency of the textile industry. According to the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first of its kind in the Indian textile industry using stochastic frontier approach and panel data. Further, it also looks at the contribution of different determinants in technical efficiency to the firms.

This study aims to describe the role of local government and the participation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the development of Plastic Woven Crafts in Karanggebang Jetis Village, Ponorogo Regency. The theory used in the formulation of the first problem regarding the role of local government uses the theory of Gede Diva (2009) which divides the role of government in three ways, namely the role of government as a facilitator, the role of government as regulator and the role of government as a catalyst. Second, the participation of UMKM actors uses the theory of Cohen and Uphoff in Distianto (2016) into four forms of participation, namely participation in planning, participation in implementation, participation in the utilization of results and finally participation in evaluation. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. The technique of determining informants using purposive sampling techniques and data collection techniques carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this research in the efforts to develop UMKM Plastic Weaving Crafts in Karanggebang Jetis Village, Ponorogo Regency, in general, there has been no interference from the government and UMKM entrepreneurs. So far, plastic woven crafts are still not developed. To develop UMKM especially plastic woven handicrafts located in Karanggebang Jetis, it is necessary to have the role of government and participation of UMKM actors.
