The Speech Act of Cartoon Movie: Spongebob Squarepants’ The Movie

Direct and indirect speech acts are the two types of speech acts. This study aims to know how indirect speech acts are employed in the movie "SpongeBob SquarePants." It employs descriptive qualitative research to explain the main character's speech act types. There is currently a scarcity of studies examining speech act types in cartoon or animation films; yet, it is necessary. According to this study, the result of this article is: first, there are seventy-four discussions of indirect speech acts obtained from all characters in the movie SpongeBob SquarePants. Each dialogue in the film SpongeBob SquarePants can be deduced to reveal the meaning of indirect speech acts. Second, The reader can use the domain analysis indirect speech acts summary to help them understand each dialogue in this movie that has a different meaning. This stage permitted the main characters to say literal things to the listener. The main character did not make a difficult-to-understand statement to the listener. This research looks at Yule's theory's utterances of indirect speech activities. As a result, the outcome differed from the prior study, despite the same issue.

The aim of this research is to describe the expressive speech acts of the YouTube user (netizen) and the politeness strategy used by the netizens in line to respond polling of Presidential-VP candidate in Indonesia. This descriptive qualitative research used library research in collecting the data. Some theories related to expressive speech acts and politeness strategy were used to analyze the data. The analysis was represented by using informal method. The result of analysis showed that the expressive speech act is the most frequently used by the YouTube users. The results indicated that the netizens used expressive speech acts to express anger, satirizing, sympathizing, blaming, thanking and fulminating. The research also revealed the importance of expressive speech act in keeping politeness in witten language. It was concluded that the netizens were creative in expressing their ideas through written language. Expressive speech acts and politeness strategy reflected the way the language users show their emotion by using words.

The objectives of the research were to describe the types of speech acts used in televised political debates of governor candidates of North Sumatera, to derive the dominant type of speech acts used in televised political debates of governor candidates of North Sumatera and to elaborate the way of five governor candidates of North Sumatera use speech acts in televised political debates. This research was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative research. The findings show that there were only four types of speech acts used in televised political debates, Debat Pemilukada Sumatera Utara and Uji Publik Cagub dan Cawagub Sumatera Utara, they were assertives, directives, commissives and expressives. The dominant type of speech acts used in both televised political debates was assertives, with 82 utterances or 51.6% in Debat Pemilukada Sumatera Utara and 36 utterances or 41.37% in Uji Publik Cagub dan Cawagub Sumatera Utara. The way of governor candidates of North Sumatera used speech acts in televised political debates is in direct speech acts, they spoke straight to the point and clearly in order to make the other candidates and audiences understand their utterances. This study aims to describe the forms of expressive speech act uttered by adults in TPI in Pesisir Selatan Regency, Sumatera Barat. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data are any utterances which contain expressive speech acts of adult in TPI Pesisir Selatan. The analysis is done by using speech acts theory proposed by Searle. Data source of this research is Adult in TPI. In this research, the researcher used observational method because the data are in the form of spoken language that obtained in a Adult in TPI. Thus this research used notetaking technique in collecting expressive speech act. The research findings show that there are ten kinds of expressive speech act in adults in TPI, namely apology, thanks, sympathy, attitudes, expressing greeting, wishing, expressing joy, expressing pain, expressing like, and expressing dislikes.

AbstrakPenelitian terhadap novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kesantunan tindak tutur menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data penelitian ini adalah tindak tutur direktif menyuruh pada tokoh protagonis dalam novel tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara membaca dan memahami novel, mencatat kata, frasa, klausa, dan kalimat tokoh yang dapat dirumuskan sebagai bagian dari tuturan maupun tindak tutur menyuruh, dan menginventarisasikan data berdasarkan masalah-masalah tindak tutur direktif yang terdapat dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye. Data dianalisis dan dibahas berdasarkan teori pragmatik. Dalam penelitian ini ditemukan sembilan tuturan tindak tutur direktif menyuruh, yang menunjukkan bahwa tokoh protagonis dalam novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga karya Tere Liye cenderung melakukan tindak tutur menyuruh secara santun. Strategi bertutur tokoh utama dalam novel cenderung menggunakan tindak menyuruh kepada adik-adiknya. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive methods. The data source in this research is the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye. The data of this research are directive speech acts ordered to the protagonist in the novel. Data were collected by understanding the novel, noting down words, phrases, clauses, or sentences that can be formulated as part of speech acts, and making an inventory of the data based on the problems of directive speech acts contained in Tere Liye's novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga. Data were analyzed and based on pragmatic theory. The results of this study shows nine directive ordered speech act utterances, which indicate that the protagonist in the novel Bidadari-Bidadari Surga by Tere Liye tends to perform speech acts politely. The study entitled Quasi-Mental Retarded Represented in Speech Act of Forrest’s Utterances in Forrest Gump Movie. The objectives of the study were to find out the types of speech acts found in Forrest’s utterances of Forrest Gump Movie and to describe the function speech acts were used by main character that had a mental retardation. The study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative design. The data of the study were utterances that used by main character in Forrest Gump movie, and there were 620 utterances found in Forrest’s utterances. Yule’s theory deals with types of speech acts were applied to analyze the data. The findings of the study showed that the types of speech acts were realized in Forrest’s utterances with the ratio; Declaration acts were 24 (3,87%), Representative acts were 443 (71,45%), Expressive acts were 44 (7,11%), Directive acts were 85 (13,70%) and Commissive acts were 24 (3,87%). The representative acts was one of speech acts type that most dominant uttered by Forrest in Forrest Gump Movie. It showed that mental retardation disorder wanted to represent a world as they believe.

The objectives of this study are to describe the types of speech acts used in Jokowi’s campaign speeches, to elaborate the realization of Jokowi used illocutionary act in campaign speeches, to know the reason of using illocutionary act. This study was conducted by descriptive qualitative research. The data of the research are the utterances of Jokowi’s speeches. The source of the data was Jokowi’s campaign speeches. The technique for collecting data is documentary technique. The technique of data analysis was interactive model by using Miles and Huberman. The findings show all types of speech acts were used in Jokowi’s campaign speeches, namely: locutionary act, illocutionary act can be classified into five parts; there were assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, declarative and the last types was perlocutionary act. The realization of illocutionary act used in Jokowi’s campaign speeches, the directive speech act was used in form of warning, commanding, promising, offering, questioning, requesting. The reasons of using illocutionary act in Jokowi’s campaign speeches are to point out or to identify what the speaker mean from his utterance, which influence of meaning and information of the speech and to get information clearly from Jokowi’s campaign speeches. This study focused on indirect speech act used by the main characters in Toba Dream movie. The objectives of the study were to: (1) find out the types of indirect speech acts used in Toba Dream movie, and (2) describe how types of indirect speech acts used in Toba Dream movie. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were all utterances uttered by the main character in Toba Dream movie and collected by watching the movie. The result of the study showed that there were four types of indirect speech acts found in Toba Dream movie, they were: representative, directive, commisive, expressive containing indirect speech acts in Toba dream Movie. Representative (25,71%) were realized by interrogative sentences and imperative sentences. Directive (21,43%) were realized by declarative sentences and interrogative sentences. Commisive (14,28%) were realized by declarative sentences. The main characters in Toba dream movie dominated the use of indirect speech act to express statement, command and warning. It showed that they could produce the language more politely and keep the hearer’s face while getting instruction or information indirectly.Keywords: indirect speech act, movie pragmatic, Toba Dream
