This study aimed to determine the many types of translation methods, how they were employed in the translation of the folklores "Deli Malay" and "Serdang Malay" from Indonesian to English, and why the translators used the prevailing types in these folklores. The descriptive qualitative method was used to perform this research. The data was gathered from a folklore book and an interview with the folklores' translator. Descriptive qualitative research is the method used to analyze the data. The findings of this study revealed that literal translation accounted for 39 sentences (16%), faithful translation accounted for 23 sentences (9%), semantic translation accounted for four sentences (2%), adaptation translation accounted for seven sentences (3%), free translation accounted for 158 sentences (64%) and communicative translation accounted for 16 sentences (6%). A total of 247 sentences were extracted from the data. Because he did not follow any theories or methods of translation when translating the texts, the translator utilized free translation as the dominating method. Instead, he evaluated the translations' target audience, youngsters, and made them acceptable and simple to understand.

The topic of the research is Readers' Reactions to Maman Suherman's Re: The study's goals were to look at the readers' reactions to the plot components in Maman Suherman's Re: and the reasons for their reactions to Maman Suherman's Re: The descriptive qualitative method was used in this study's investigation. The readers' responses to the novel's questionnaire served as the study's data. The information was gathered from readers who had completed the novel in its entirety. The outcome revealed how readers reacted to Maman Suherman's Re: Beach, and Marshall's theory was used to examine the data. This research aimed to find out the factors affecting the autonomous learners in learning English and how these factors can influence the autonomous learners in learning English. This research employed qualitative narrative research. Narrative research was deemed to be relevant for this research since it deals with the specific phenomenon of the autonomous learner which analyzed life experience from the participants in learning English. The research subjects were two identified of autonomous learners. The data was taken by conducted interviews. In analyzing the data, the researcher used some procedures; data condensation, data display, and drawing conclusion/verification. The research revealed a finding related to the research question indicating that (1) internal and external factors were the factors affecting autonomous learners in learning English. From internal factors, it was argued that self- motivation (passion and willingness) was the biggest factor effecting autonomous learners eager to learn English. In addition, they also mentioned several external factors such as the family environment, school environment, and teachers as other factors that affected them in learning English (2) from several factors affecting autonomous learners in learning English, the participants also explained how these factors could encourage them in learning English, because of there were self-initiation, self-direction, and self-realization in themselves that stimulate them to become autonomous in learning. From these findings, it can be inferred that teachers or lecturers could play a role to promote students learning autonomy in order to stimulate students’ others positive psychological behavior, English proficiency and academic achievement.

This study aimed to identify the types of logico-semantic relations and the use of logico-semantic relations of Raja Parhata in the Saur Matua ceremony. This study was conducted by applying the descriptive qualitative method by Flick (2009). The source of data was Raja Parhata in the Saur Matua ceremony. The result of this research was types of logico-semantic relations can be found in Raja Parhata are paratactic elaboration (44,28%), paratactic enhancement (21,42%), hypotactic elaboration (7,14%), paratactic extension (11,42%), hypotactic enhancement (12,85%), hypotactic extension (2,85%). Moreover, the realization of logico-semantic relations in Raja Parhata’s utterances mostly appears by using conjunction jadi (so), molo (if), and holani (that all), adverbial clause dungi (after that), verb baen (play), and preposition tu (to).

This study was aimed at investigating the use of indirectness and question tags in some Indonesian trials. The data were chosen randomly from YouTube’s videos. The subjects were twenty people consisting of judges, witnesses, and defendants (the accused). To analyze the data, the conversations of the videos were firstly transcribed verbatim. Then, they were analyzed using the framework of Thomas (1995) and Holmes (1984). The data showed that indirect speech style and question tags were more attached to powerful women.

The thesis deals with conversational analysis of selling-buying in DolokSanggul traditional market. The objectives of this study were to find out types and most dominant type of turn-taking used in Batak Toba Seller and buyers in DolokSanggul Traditional market. The study was conducted by using desccriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were conversation and interaction between sellers and buyers during the selling-buying process. The data of this study contained 25 conversations. The data analysis were taken by listing and tabulating the data. The data were analyzed based on the theory that proposed by Sack et al (1974) . The findings inducted that there were three types of turn-taking found in Doloksanggul Traditional market . The finding were showed that   CS2TNS (48%) SS (20%) and SCS (32%) and the most frequent turn-taking occurred in the conversation among seller and buyer is Current Speaker Select the Next Speaker (C2TNS). The conversation described how participant organize their interaction by distributing turns to the speakers. The transition from turn to next with no gap and no overlap are common occurred.

The research dealt with taboo words in Deapool movie. The objectives of research aimed at explaining the types of taboo words and also to figure out motives of using taboo words in Deadpool movie. The research conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. This study was different from previous researcher that found types and function of taboo words while in this study focused on types and motives of using taboo words. The data were taken from the utterances that contain taboo words by first main character in this movie. There were 82 taboo words that had been uttered in this movie. From nine types of taboo words, there were eight of them, they were Cursing 2,44 %, Profanity 3,66 %, Obscenity 40,24%, Vulgarity 6,10 %, Insults and slurs 9,76 %, Slang 12,20 %, Epithets 20,73 %, and Scatology 2,44 %. And for the motives of using taboo words, there were five from five motives of them, they were Angry or Frustration 30,48 %, Descriptive- evaluative 43,90 %, Joking 7,32 %, Surprise 14,64 %, and Sarcastic Irony Insults 3,66 %.

The research was about Stylistics of Nemokke in Javanese wedding ceremony in Langkat Sumatera Utara. This study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative design. The source of data was taken from the utterances of dukun manten and activities happened in Nemokke (traditional Javanese wedding ceremony) in Langkat Sumatera Utara. The data are the transcription of the Javanese ‘dukun manten’ utterances recording in Javanese wedding ceremony, especially in Nemokke and activities happened in Nemokke.  The technique for analyzing the data is descriptive qualitative research based on Miles & Huberman (1984). The technique of collecting the data of this research is observation, recording and interview. The findings indicate that there were three Stylistics (Sympson, 2004) found in Javanese wedding ceremony, they were Semantics, Pragmatics and Discourse. It is suggested to the dukun manten in Javanese wedding ceremony to use Discourse to give information and to show the great meaning and audience understand.

This study dealt with sign in Ndungndungen Karo. The objectives of the study were to investigate the sign types (icon, index and symbol) used in Ndungndungen nasehat & Adat by using Peirce’s theory. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were 32 Ndungndungen Orang Tua, consisted of 16 Ndungndungen Nasehat and 16 Ndungndungen Adat from the book entitled 375 Ndungndungen Karo by P.Angelo PK. Purba OFM Cap. For collecting data, this study used the method of literature study and interview. The findings showed that the total numbers of sign classification were 59. There were (46%) Icon, (15%) Index and (39%) symbol. The use of icon became the most dominant types of sign classification found in Ndungndungen Nasehat dan adat after the use of symbol and index. The meanings of sign types (icon, index and symbol) found in Ndungndungen Nasehat dan adat to show their politeness in talk and the messages, advices, or as a guidance to their life.

The objectives of this study were to find out meanings, what, how, and why the meanings were realized in the Gotilon Batak Toba Ceremony in Dolok Sanggul Humbang Hasundutan. This study was conducted using an observation study. The data of this study were taken from Gotilon Ceremony. The sources of the data were the Gotilon Ceremony in Dolok Sanggul and the informants or Raja Parhata in Dolok Sanggul. The data were analyzed by using Roland’s theory of semiotics object. The writer found the meanings on Gotilon Batak Toba Ceremony, namely: revise, support one, support two, support three, rid, speed, addition, exploitative two, exploitative three, survive, joyfulness, invitation, stay focus, keep fight, togetherness, convince, easier, kinship, honor, offering, and thanksgiving. From those materials were found that there were verbal utterances that consist of Atur biur, Angkat nomor sada, Angkat nomor dua, Angkat nomor tolu, Buang jauh-jauh, Eme, Rugi, Ponggol nomor dua, Ponggol nomor tolu, Naeng Sahat, Tambun Namboru, Hurre Alogo, Unang mekkel, Tahan nafas, Satukan, Beres. And there were symbols namely Luhutan, Marsirippa, Sipanganon, Mangamoti, and Pesta Gotilon. The signs used in Gotilon ceremony because they want to convey the meanings of the ceremony.
