ABSTRACT Mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) and swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) are economically important marine commodities produced from the coastal waters of Sangihe Islands Regency. But those marine commodity products are usually only caught accidentally with a bottom gill net. There has been a special trap fishing gear for that resources, but not known well by local fishermen. Addition of squid oil extraction baits could increase the fishing power of mangrove crab and swimming crab traps. This research aims to study the effect of squid oil extract on traps bait to catch mangrove crab and swimming crab; and identify the types of biota captured. This research was done in coastal waters of Malise village, Tabukan Tengah District of Sangihe Islands Regency for 2 weeks September 2015; based on experimental method. Six unit traps were operated ten trips where three units of them used scad mackerel bait that injected with squid oil extract, and tree other units just used scad mackerel bait without extract; and the capture data were analyzed using t test. The catch was 142 individuals (135 mangrove crabs and 7 swimming crab); where 86 crabs was caught by scad mackerel bait with squid oil extract, and 56 crabs caught with bait without squid oil extract. The analysis showed that the use of squid oil extracts on trap baits increased the catch. Keywords: mangrove crab, swimming crab, trap baits, squid oil extract, Sangihe   ABSTRAK[1] Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) dan rajungan (Portunus pelagicus) merupakan komoditi hasil laut ekonomis penting yang dihasilkan dari perairan pantai Kabupaten Kepulauan Sangihe. Coral reef ecosystem is known as an important place to live various types of fish, where coral conditions will affect the diversity and abundance of the fish. In healthy coral reef ecosystems generally can be found many types of fish with high density. This research aims to investigate the diversity and abundance of coral fishes at Saebus Island, East Java. The observation conducted at 4 stations, according to cardinal point by UVS (underwater visual census) methods with belt transect with the visibility of 2,5 m horizontally, and 5 m vertically. The length of transect was 100 m parallel with coastline, with the area of observation is 500 m2. The censuses were conducted at 2 different depths (3 and 10 m). This study found 70 kinds of coral fish originated form 20 family at all stations. These fishes were from 3 different fish categories i.e. 7 target fishes, 13 indicator fishes, and 50 major fishes. Three different fishes that dominated target fish, indicator fish and major fish were Epinephelus fasciatus, Chaetodon baronessa and Aulostomus chinensis, respectively. There was similar value of fish diversity index at two different depths which were 3.635 and 3,623. While uniformity index at the depth of 3m was 0.153 and at 10m was 0.217, and domination index at the depth of 3m was 0.11 and at 10m was 0.167. These values suggest that diversity of coral fish at Saebus island can be categorized as high diversity.

Abstract. Suryaningsih S, Bhagawati D, Sukmaningrum S, Sugiharto, Puspitasari IGAAR. 2020. Freshwater fish diversity in three tributary streams in Serayu Basin, Central Java, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 5811-5817. Determining the diversity of freshwater fish species in Central Java, Indonesia has been confounded by temporal and spatial limitations in past studies. The Serayu Basin is a large watershed in Central Java that is believed to have high freshwater fish diversity. We aimed to determine the diversity and community structure of freshwater fish species in three tributaries of the Serayu, elucidate the factors influencing this diversity, and determine the extent to which these tributaries contribute to the total freshwater fish species richness for southwest Central Java. We conducted gill net sampling from May to August 2018 on the Tulis, Mrawu, and Kali Sapi Rivers located at Banjanegara district Sampling followed a random group technique in upstream, midstream, and downstream river sections of each tributary. In total, we observed 21 freshwater fish species. Broadly, fish species diversity was relatively low in the study area, and water temperature and dissolved oxygen were important in maintaining fish diversity. These three tributaries house 27–46% of the freshwater fish species reported for southern Central Java.

Information regarding the diversity of bycatch from blue swimming crab fishing operations is important in ecosystem-based management and assessment for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification of crab fisheries in Southeast Sulawesi and Indonesia. However, data limitation becomes major challenges. This study aims to specify the types of bycatch caught from blue swimming crab fishing in Lasongko and Kendari Bay Southeast Sulawesi. This research was conducted in March to September 2019. Data was collected from trap and bottom gillnet fishing by using a purposive sampling method on a monthly basis. Bycatch was categorized into two groups, namely economically valuable and discarded, according to the local fishers’ perception. Information was presented both spatially and temporally. The results show that bycatch consists of 66 species including 41 economically valuable and 26 discarded species. Indices of diversity, evenness and dominance of fish were also discussed to describe the ecological conditions. Accordingly, this bycatch composition is able to support the management and assessment of MSC certification of crab fisheries in Southeast Sulawesi. Keywords: bycatch, fish diversity, blue swimming crab fisheries, Southeast Sulawesi.

ABSTRACTCommunity structure of target fishes was analyzed to understand their response to different conditions of coral reefs in several places of Hugow and Putus-Putus islands. This study focused on species abundance and diversity including Shannon-Wiener’s species diversity (H’), species richness (SR), species evenness (J’) and dominance (d) indices, respectively. A multivariate analysis was used for the classification or correspondence factorial analyses. The result recorded 4,501 individuals belonging to 52 species of target fishes. Both cluster and correspondence analyses clearly recognized 3 groups of target fish with 2 major controlling factors for the development of these 3 ecological groups, i.e. coral reef conditions and geographic position to the hydrodynamic condition.ABSTRAKStruktur komunitas ikan target dianalisis untuk melihat respon ikan target terhadap perbedaan kondisi terumbu karang di beberapa lokasi Pulau Hogow dan Putus-Putus.

We evaluated fish diversity in three tributaries of the São Francisco River, one of the largest watercourses in Brazil. The study site is in the sub-basin of the Carinhanha River [Carinhanha, Cocos (I and II) and Itaguari Rivers], located in the South region of the Bahia state. These rivers are crossed by bridges of the federal highway BR-135. After sampling, upstream and downstream from each bridge, during drought and rain seasons, 3,520 specimens of fish (57 species, 21 families) were captured. The species with highest occurrence were Astyanax cf. taeniatus, Serrapinnus heterodon, Astyanax bimaculatus and Astyanax cf. rivularis. During drought season, the number of specimens captured was higher, leading to an increase of species dominance. In the rainy season, species diversity was higher with a greater distribution of individuals among species. The data indicate the maintenance of the fish faunal structure despite anthropogenic activities on the studied areas.

Quantitative surveys of fish-species diversity were undertaken at 10 m and 20 m water depth on the outer reef at Aldabra Atoll, southern Seychelles, between November 1999 and May 2003. No significant changes in total fish-species diversity, numbers of families represented by these species, or numbers of pomacentrid or chaetodontid species were seen, contrary to fish-diversity changes seen on coral bleaching-impacted reefs elsewhere. The lack of additional anthropogenic pressures at remote Aldabara may make this system, and others like it, more tolerant of bleaching-related population changes.

Fish species, fishing gear and crafts in the most polluted river Buriganga were inventorial. During December, 2012 to November, 2013, a total of 56 fish species belonging to 20 families and 9 orders were recorded. Cypriniformes observed to be the most dominant order with 18 species (32%). The highest fish diversity was recorded during monsoon season, and lowest during winter. Maximum diversity variance (7.616 ± 2.76 Sd) observed in the monsoon season for 56 species (220 individuals). Also 12 different types of gears of two categories (active and passive) and two types of crafts were observed to be used for fishing in the study area. The highest number of species of fishes (n = 56) recorded in August and lowest (n = 3) in April and May 2013. Strong correlation between water depth and number of fish species (r = 0.74) and fishing activities (r = 0.96) was observed.Bangladesh J. Zool. 45(1): 11-26, 2017
