Objectives: To estimate the frequency of iron deficiency anemia in a sample of population of pregnant women residingpermanently at high altitude of ≥5000 feet in different areas of district Abbottabad. Study Design: Cross sectional Study. Place & duration ofStudy: Northern Institute of Medical Sciences Abbottabad: From 17 August 2009 to 15 June 2010. Subjects and Methods: This study wascarried out on hundred pregnant women residing permanently at an altitude of ≥5000 feet above sea level in district Abbottabad. The agerange was fixed to 15-45 (child bearing age ) years. Suspected study participants having anemia were tested for iron status by serum ferritintest. Pregnant women having both anemia and iron deficiency were labeled as patients of Iron deficiency anemia. Results: The age range was15-41 years with a mean of + / - SD of 28.13 + / - 6.61. All women were of low and middle socioeconomic class with 74 % illiteracy. 60 % of womenhad birth spacing of two or less than two years. 64 % of pregnant women had three children. Anemia was detected in 74 % (X2 =9.42 p > 0.05),iron deficiency in 66 % (X2 = 14.76 p <0.01) and iron deficiency anemia in 60 % (X2 = 13.56 p < 0.01). Conclusions: High altitude residentpregnant women remain at high risk of developing iron deficiency anemia because of illiteracy, poverty and ignorance. With adequate nutritionand health education the problem can be addressed effectively.

Objectives: To determine the importance of the RDW and other red cell indices(MCV, HBG) in the prediction of iron deficiency anemia in third trimester of pregnancy in a tertiarycare hospital of Peshawar. Design: Cross sectional study. Setting: OPD Department ofGynecology and Obstetrics Postgraduate Medical Institute, Lady reading Hospital (PGMI-LRH)st th Peshawar. Period: 1 August 2012- 10 Dec 2012. Material and Methods: A Total of 152 womenattending the centre were included. Necessary information’s were recorded on the questionnaireprepared in accordance with the objectives of the study. Results: A total of 152 women in theirthird trimester presenting to Gynecology and obstetrics department of Lady reading hospitalPeshawar. The age range of the patient was from 20 years to 55 years with mean age of33+3.4years.Out of total 27(18%) were primagravida. Majority of the cases 118(77.6%) werefrom Peshawar, 9% from charsadda, 8% nowshera etc. We also received 2 patients 1.2% fromAfghanistan. Regarding financial status 57 %( 87) females were in upper Class ( i.e. income>20000/month) on recall. Of total 81(53%) of the females were having hemoglobin less than11g/dl and 22% of the women had HCT<32% which as per criteria of the WHO were anemic at thetime of presentation. While 29(19%) patients had low value of MCV (microcytic). Fifty five patients(36.2%) had RDW CV(%) more than 15% which points more towards the microcytic nature ofanemia and more anisocytosis. Conclusions: Fifty five patients (36.2%) had RDW CV(%) morethan 15% which points more towards the microcytic nature of anemia. While 29(19%) patientshad low value of MCV (microcytic). Increased RDW is best indicator for the detection of irondeficiency anemia than MCV. Increased RDW even in the presence of normal MCV can be anearly signal for iron deficiency anemia in pregnacy. Hence RDW is more reliable indicator for irondeficiency especially in pregnancy. Changes in RDW in last trimester is more significant that MCV.

Introduction: The prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women in the world according to WHO ranges from 35-37%, similarly found in pregnant women in Indonesia, Riskesdas in 2013 reported a prevalence of 37.1%. Although the treatment of iron deficiency anemia for pregnant women has been entered into ANC treatment, the prevalence has not given the expected thing. However, in Sumedang District, the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women in 2016 lower, 9.69%, pharmacoepidemiological data related to the use of blood boosting vitamins in Jatinangor is still limited. this research was conducted in Jatinangor as target area of Universitas Padjadjaran.Objective: To know the blood Enhancer supplement consumption practices on pregnant women in Jatinangor.Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in July-August 2018 with pregnant women in Jatinangor, based on the formula large sample descriptive, sampling conducted in 12 villages and subjects were selected consecutively. Data analysis was carried out descriptively interview data using a closed questionnaire.Results: within research recorded 532 pregnant woman, 110 pregnant women are eligible to participate. It was found 96 pregnant women taking blood boosting vitamins, 69 Taking folicacid, 27 taking irontablets, 15 consuming B12, 2 consuming B6. It was found who did not take vitamins, 14 pregnant women for several reasons, 8 people felt healthy, 3 people felt the complaints were mild so it does not require vitamins, 4 others were afraid of the side effects.Conclusion: Most of the respondents already know how to consume suplments

Background. Anemia in pregnancy is an essential problem due to affect to not only the mother’s life but also to baby’s life. An iron deficiency causes about 75 percent of anemia during pregnancy. Objective. This study aimed to identify risk factors for iron deficiency among pregnant women and determine the possible link between iron status and tannin levels associated with tea consumption. Method. The population-based cross-sectional studies were conducted from secondary data of previous thesis-research in 2013, “Pengaruh Kadar Tanin pada Teh Celup terhadap Anemia Gizi Besi (AGB) pada Ibu Hamil di UPT Puskesmas Citeureup Kabupaten Bogor Tahun 2012”. The study population consisted of 94 randomly selected pregnant women. The inclusion criteria were pregnant women who participated in the previous study and have a complete antenatal care record. Demographic data were collected, including data on age, working status, gestational stage, time since last pregnancy, and parity. The information included nutritional variables, such as iron supplements, nutritional status, and iron intake. Also, data for tannin level grouped as low, medium, and high based on the frequency of daily tea consumption and tea-making habits. The linear model analysis was used to determine the influence of tea consumption on serum ferritin levels. Results. The results showed that time since last pregnancy (<2 years), parity (more than two children), reduced consumption of foods containing heme, and levels of tannin consumption (low, medium, or high) were predictors of iron-deficiency anemia. The results also suggested that tannin levels were inversely proportional to serum ferritin levels. Conclusion. Pregnant women who consumed tea with a low tannin level had the highest serum ferritin levels, whereas those who drank tea with medium and high tannin levels had the lowest serum ferritin levels.

Abstract: Iron deficiency anemia is a major nutritional problem in the world and until now has not resolved properly. World Health Organization (WHO) had estimated more then 2 million people had been exposed with anaemia with prevalence of 30% in pregnant women especially in Developing Countries such as Indonesia, which according RISKESDAS in 2013 the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia approximately 31.7%. There are several risk factors that cause pregnant women to experience iron deficiency anemia like economic problems, the lack of iron absorption and blood loss resulting in decreased hemoglobin levels such as menstruation, bleeding and infection. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of iron tablets on antenatal care for pregnant women hemoglobin. This research is analytic survey with cross sectional study. Then the data that had been collected will be processed by using SPSS program. The population is all pregnant women in the working area in 6 health centers Mongondouw Bolaang North and sampling done purposive sampling. By using the chi square test, it showed that there is a correlation between antenatal care with hemoglobin levels (P=0,047) and there is a correlation between iron tablet with hemoglobin levels (P= 0,015). There is a correlation between iron tablets and antenatal care with hemoglobin levels in pregnant women in North Bolaang Mongondouw.Keywords: iron tablets, antenatal care, hemoglobin levelAbstrak: Anemia defisiensi besi merupakan masalah gizi utama di seluruh dunia dan sampai saat ini belum teratasi dengan baik. WHO memperkirakan terdapat 2 juta penduduk dunia yang terkena anemia dari berbagai lapisan kelompok masyarakat dengan prevalensi 30% pada ibu hamil terkena terutama di Negara berkembang. Prevalensi anemia defisiensi besi di Indonesia menurut RISKESDAS 2013 yakni 31,7%, banyak faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya anemia defisiensi besi seperti kebutuhan zat besi yang tidak terpenuhi, kurangnya absorbsi zat besi serta kehilangan darah yang mengakibatkan kadar hemoglobin menurun seperti menstruasi, perdarahan dan infeksi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan pemberian tablet besi pada antenatal care terhadap kadar hemoglobin ibu hamil di Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondouw Utara. Penelitian bersifat survey analitik dengan rancangan cross sectional study. Kemudian data yang terkumpul diolah dengan menggunakan SPSS. Populasi adalah semua ibu hamil yang ada di wilayah kerja di 6 puskesmas Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondouw Utara dan pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara Purposive Sampling. Dengan menggunakan uji Chi Square didapatkan ada hubungan antara antenatal care dengan kadar hemoglobin serta terdapat hubungan pemberian tablet dengan kadar hemoglobin pada ibu hamil di Kabupaten Bolaang Mongodouw Utara. Ada hubungan pemberian tablet besi dan antenatal care terhadap kadar hemoglobin pada ibu hamil di Kabupaten Bolaang Mongondouw Utara.Kata kunci: tablet besi, pemeriksaan antenatal dan kadar hemoglobin (hb)

<p><em>Iron deficiency anemia is anemia caused by iron deficiency in the blood. Maternal iron deficiency affects the low iron reserves in neonates </em><em>and it also influences on </em><em>Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) </em><em> which affects cognitive function.</em><em> </em><em>The purpose of this study was to determine the difference mean of BDNF in neonates from normal pregnant women and pregnant women with iron deficiency. </em><em>The design of this research was Cross Sectional</em><em> </em><em>design. This research was conducted in Community Health Center of Lubuk  Buaya, Ambacang Community Health Center, Community Health Center of Ikur Koto Health Center and Biomedical Laboratory of Andalas University on February 2017 to April 2018. There were 42 pregnant women was selected as sample e of this research. The samples were chosen by Consecutive Sampling. Then, the sample is divided into two groups: normal pregnant women and pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia. BDNF are examined by the ELISA. Next, the data were analyzed by using T test. The levels of BDNF neonates in normal pregnant group was 3.65(ng/ml) and the anemia pregnant group was 1.74(ng/ml) (p &lt;0.05). There was significant difference of BDNF levels in neonates from normal pregnant women and pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia. </em><em>The conclusion of this study is there is a difference of average BDNF in neonates from normal pregnant women and pregnant women with iron deficiency.</em></p><p> </p><p>Anemia defisiensi besi adalah anemia yang disebabkan karena kekurangan zat besi dalam darah. Defisiensi besi  maternal berdampak pada rendahnya cadangan besi pada neonatus dan berdampak terhadap ekspresi Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor (BDNF) yang berpengaruh pada fungsi kognitif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan rerata kadar BDNF pada neonatus dari ibu hamil normal dan ibu hamil defisiensi besi. Desain penelitian ini adalah Cross Sectional. Penelitian dilakukan di Puskesmas Lubuk Buaya, Puskesmas Ambacang, Puskesmas Ikur Koto dan Laboratorium Biomedik Universitas Andalas pada bulan Februari 2017 – Juli 2018. Sampel Penelitian adalah ibu hamil sebanyak 42 orang yang dipilih secara Consecutive Sampling, sampel dibagi menjadi dua kelompok yaitu ibu hamil normal dan ibu hamil anemia defisiensi besi. BDNF diperiksa dengan metode ELISA. Data dianalisa menggunakan uji T test. Kadar BDNF neonatus pada ibu kelompok normal adalah 3,65(ng/ml) dan kelompok ibu anemia adalah 1,74(ng/ml) (p&lt;0,05). Terdapat perbedaan bermakna kadar BDNF pada neonatus dari ibu hamil normal dan ibu anemia defisiensi besi. <em></em></p>

Objectives: To evaluate electrolytes levels in patients suffering from iron deficiency anemia and to compare it with patients without anemia. Study Design: Descriptive Cross Sectional study. Setting: Department of Pathology, Sahiwal Medical College Sahiwal. Period: November, 2019 to May, 2020. Material & Methods: After taking informed consent, five milliliter of blood was drawn from each patient. Blood sample was analyzed for electrolytes, complete blood counts and serum ferritin levels. Results were compared in normal and iron deficiency anemic groups. Results: A total of 287 clinically anemic suspects including 181 (63.0%) female and 106 (37.0%) male with mean age of patients as 36.11±12.23 were included in this study. A total of 205 (71.4%) of the suspects had anemia whereas frequency of anemia remained higher among females (78.5%) as compared to males (59.5%) in this study. On the basis of serum ferritin levels a total of 178 (62.0%) patients had iron deficiency. Mean values of Sodium (130.41±0.59) and Bicarbonate (24.10±0.31) remained low while mean Potassium (4.33±0.07) and Chloride (103.93±0.47) levels of Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) group remained high as compared to non-anemic group. Conclusion: Levels of sodium and bicarbonate are found to be on the lower side while potassium and chloride remained on higher side in patients with Iron deficiency Anemia in this study. Thus these findings indicate close monitoring of electrolytes to evade impediments during management of patients.

Pregnant women are at risk for iron deficiency anemia especially pregnant women in malaria-endemic areas. This study aimed to analyze the profile of iron in the third trimester pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia in co-endemic area of Bengkulu city. This study was cross-sectional study with a total sample of 66 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria. Examination profile of iron in pregnant women is done by taking blood specimen through the vena cubity. Profile iron includes examination sTfR levels, hepcidin, transferrin were examined by ELISA. Determination of iron deficiency anemia is based on the results of Hb, serum iron and TIBC. The results showed 39.4% of pregnant women experience iron deficiency anemia. There is an average difference between hepcidin levels with the incidence of iron deficiency anemia (p-value 0.031). Based on binary logistic regression analysis profile iron with irondeficiency anemia in pregnant women, hepcidin levels are predictors factors on the incidence of iron deficiency anemia (p-value 0.000, 95% CI .296-.709).

Iron deficiency anemia among pregnant women is a widespread problem in developing countries including Ethiopia, though its influence on neonatal iron status was inconsistently reported in literature. This cross-sectional study was conducted to compare hematologic profiles and iron status of newborns from mothers with different anemia status and determine correlation between maternal and neonatal hematologic profiles and iron status in Ethiopian context. We included 89 mothers and their respective newborns and performed complete blood count and assessed serum ferritin and C-reactive protein levels from blood samples collected from study participants. Maternal median hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels were 12.2 g/dL and 47.0 ng/mL, respectively. The median hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels for the newborns were 16.2 g/dL and 187.6 ng/mL, respectively. The mothers were classified into two groups based on hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels as iron deficient anemic (IDA) and nonanemic (NA) and newborns of IDA mothers had significantly lower levels of serum ferritin (P=0.017) and hemoglobin concentration (P=0.024). Besides, newborns’ ferritin and hemoglobin levels showed significant correlation with maternal hemoglobin (P=0.018;P=0.039) and ferritin (P=0.000;P=0.008) levels. We concluded that maternal IDA may have an effect on the iron stores of newborns.
