For the situation that the smoke exhaust vents are located on both sides of the fire source, critical ventilation velocity is not appropriate to evaluate the smoke control effect. “Confinement velocity” is proposed as the characteristic parameter to study the longitudinal ventilation by O.Vauquelin in this situation. However, there have been few studies on confinement velocity. An experimental study was carried out on two reduced scale tunnel models. The main objective is to analysis the relationship between confinement velocity and fire heat release in this situation. Helium and air in different ratio was used as the smoke, and the "cold smoke" produced by smoke generator was put into the mixed gas in order to measure the length of smoke layer. The experimental models were based on the half tunnel as flow field at two sides of fire is symmetrical. The CFD model was created on the basis of the experiment, and the results were basically accord with the experimental results. It was shown from the experimental results that the critical point of the confinement velocity is between L / H = 2 to L / H = 4 in section 1, between L / H = 1 to L / H = 2 in section 2, rather than a fixed value; Two tunnel models had similar dimensionless confinement velocity, but the dimensionless total confinement velocity was different.

Taking a subway tunnel as the research object and based on the CFD simulation method, this paper adopts a large eddy simulation analysis software FDS to simulate and analyze the effect of exhaust velocity on fire smoke control under the condition of the same longitudinal ventilation velocity in subway tunnel. The simulated results can provide some reference to design institutes in the selection of exhaust fan. While the longitudinal ventilation velocity set as 1m/s, the simulation results demonstrate that a quite good smoke control effect could be achieved when the exhaust velocity reaches 5 m/s in the smoke exhaust duct

Metro trains running in tunnels cause piston wind, and when a metro train stops in a tunnel due to a fire, the effect of the piston wind on smoke propagation characteristics cannot be ignored. In this paper, a theoretical model based on the unsteady flow theory of the Bernoulli equation was established to describe the change in piston wind speed under fire conditions. The characteristics of the smoke propagation in tunnel fires under the effect of the piston wind were analysed by means of numerical simulation. The result indicates that the piston wind has a significant effect on the characteristics of smoke distribution. In a longitudinally ventilated tunnel, whether the direction of piston wind is the same as that of longitudinal ventilation could seriously affect the control of fire smoke. When the direction is the same, the piston wind could enhance the smoke control effect of the longitudinal ventilation. Otherwise, the smoke control effect could be significantly diminished, and the smoke control by the critical wind speed of longitudinal ventilation would fail. The findings could contribute to a better understanding of the characteristics of tunnel fire to control smoke spread under the influence of piston wind.

Abstract: This research is a comparative literary study that uses Malay and Javanese versions of Mahabarata text sources. The research objects used were the text edition of Pandhawa Gubah (PG) by Sudibjo Z. Hadisutjipto and the text of Cheritera Pandawa Lima (CPL) by Khalid Hussain. The research method used is descriptive-analysis method. In the comparative study used a comparative literary theory proposed by Endraswara (2011). The results of the text comparison reveal the similarities and differences in the image of Bima figures in the Javanese and Malay versions. The equation as a whole is that both texts contain the same heroic storyline and heroic character, Bima. In addition, Indian influence is still evident in the two texts seen from the nuances of Hinduism that exist in both texts. While the difference is seen in the events that accompany Bima's struggle in achieving his victory. Based on these similarities and differences, it can be seen that the authors attempt to represent the concept of metaphysical interactions vertically and horizontally expressed through PG text. --- Abstrak: Penelitian ini adalah satu kajian sastra bandingan yang menggunakan sumber teks Mahabarata versi Melayu dan Jawa. Objek penelitian yang digunakan adalah edisi teks Pandhawa Gubah (PG) karya Sudibjo Z. Hadisutjipto dan teks Cheritera Pandawa Lima (CPL) karya Khalid Hussain. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif-analisis. Dalam telaah perbandingan digunakan teori sastra bandingan yang dikemukakan Endraswara (2011). Hasil perbandingan teks mengungkapkan adanya persamaan dan perbedaan citra tokoh Bima dalam versi Jawa maupun versi Melayu. Persamaan secara keseluruhan adalah kedua teks tersebut mengandung alur cerita kepahlawanan dan tokoh pahlawan yang sama yaitu Bima. Selain itu, pengaruh India masih tampak dalam kedua teks tersebut dilihat dari nuansa Hinduisme yang ada dalam kedua teks. Sementara perbedaannya tampak pada peristiwa-peristiwa yang menyertai perjuangan Bima dalam mencapai kemenangannya. Berdasarkan persamaan dan perbedaan tersebut tampak adanya upaya penulis untuk merepresentasikan konsep interaksi metafisik secara vertikal dan horizontal yang diungkapkan melalui teks PG.

The model of contrastive cultural comparison discussed here is claimed to have applacibility to every possible study of other countries (»Auslandswissenschaft«) and to be able to provide the Geisteswissenschaften with an intercultural orientation.
