The work focuses on the study of WeChat (main social network in China) and its digital activity for its advanced functionalities which build intelligent society in China. The importance of this platform lies in the prohibition of Western social networks in China.  For 7 years,  WeChat has evolved as a “super social network”, from an instant messaging application to a hybrid including application, marketplace, payment method and operating systemz, as an integrated means rather than just social network. In today's western world, almost no network can be compared with WeChat in terms of its functionalities. It is a good example of promotion and development of the intelligent society because of its advanced functionalities. The new usage and the rapid expansion of its integrated functionality and impacts form the new communication consumption framework in China. This work shows how an intelligent society changes and develops through a social network, and detailed analysis of advanced technology and social network of WeChat to give a good example to Westren countries which want to build intelligent society.

With the rapid development of mobile Internet, the social network has become an important platform for users to receive, release, and disseminate information. In order to get more valuable information and implement effective supervision on public opinions, it is necessary to study the public opinions, sentiment tendency, and the evolution of the hot events in social networks of a smart city. In view of social networks’ characteristics such as short text, rich topics, diverse sentiments, and timeliness, this paper conducts text modeling with words co-occurrence based on the topic model. Besides, the sentiment computing and the time factor are incorporated to construct the dynamic topic-sentiment mixture model (TSTS). Then, four hot events were randomly selected from the microblog as datasets to evaluate the TSTS model in terms of topic feature extraction, sentiment analysis, and time change. The results show that the TSTS model is better than the traditional models in topic extraction and sentiment analysis. Meanwhile, by fitting the time curve of hot events, the change rules of comments in the social network is obtained.

This paper reports our experience with developing a Business-2-Social (B2S) platform that provides necessary support to all this platform’s constituents, namely business processes, social media (e.g., social network), and Internet of Things (IoT). This platform is exemplified with smart cities whose successful management requires a complete integration of IoT and social media capabilities into the business processes implementing user services. To ensure a successful integration, social actions, that a smart city would allow citizens execute, are analyzed in terms of impact of these smart city’s business processes. Reactions to these actions are tracked and then analyzed to improve user services.

Abstract Instant messaging, texting, or even Computer Mediated Communication are the terms used to refer to communication in social networks. These terms are not the most appropriate ones because the technology and platforms of this way of communication have evolved rapidly. Since this communication is widespread, there is a need to have a much more standardized communication in terms of the language variety used for it. Having in mind various principles of socio cognitive approach in terminology, the study aimed to build a new appropriate term in this regard. Having in mind all the circumstances and the scale of standardization of this way of communication, I think that the best term that fits it is “Netlect”. This is done in order to include, using the same word, the name of the platform where this communication is being developed (net) and the paradigm for linguistic variety (lect), as in socio+lect, dia+lect etc. The case of Albanian and other languages goes in favour of this term because we are talking about “a language variety that never existed before”, as Ferrara, Brunner, and Whittemore stated earlier in 1991.

The Most well - known social software applications are blogs, wikis, social networks, and instant messaging. The social network is described as a convergence of technologies, which means that individuals can easily communicate, select information, and form new communities on the Internet. The rapid growth of social networks is forcing companies to step up their activities in traditional CRM systems. One of the important advantages of the Internet is the creation of an active contact between stakeholders, making it easier for businesses to get feedback from their customers, which allows them to more effectively identify customer needs and develop corrective actions.

Ever since the introduction of social networks in the early 2000s information and communication of ideas have drastically changed in their framing and mediums and also the delivery method between the sender and intended and unintended receivers. Social networks have many distinctive characteristics that demarcate them from SMS (Short Message Service), VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) and the ordinary voice phone call.Early social networks prior to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin included MySpace and Xanga. MySpace which was founded in 2003 was early adaptor to the fundamental concepts we know today like networking, personal framing online and sharing that undermine every social interaction offline and online. Xanga pioneered the highly customizable profile which gave users the option to customize practically any element on their page by accessing the HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) code of the visual elements they could modify to their own liking and personality, this however required a lot of programming skills and was a set back for the social network’s aim of customizability. In our current state and time in the western world in academic, work and extracurricular activities nearly all of the members interacting are on one social network, if not all that are mentioned. Facebook serves as a social marketing tool for some of its users that frame their lives in a pseudo-happy frame and some let out their problems and grasp Facebook as a personal journal without the confidentiality of a paperback journal. Instagram is visually based social network that aims to extrovert one’s creative skills of being a smartphone photographer. Instagram includes tools that help your photography skills and even provide a toolbox of premade filters set to provide digitally taken photographs with an old-school visual of film photography. Linkedin lets business workers, owners, seekers and entrepreneurs connect to one another in a highly formal manner, something that isn’t found in Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. This research takes the social network Twitter as its content matter due to its significant uniqueness of not being a visually based social network that is prevalent today. Twitter has been known for its straight message transmissions from the sender to the receiver. On Twitter everyone can interact with everyone from celebrities and politicians to farmers and students. This research aims to answer the concept of correlations and trends between Twitter users and their social network scope. Being branded as the “social network for smarter people”, Twitter is relevant to the intellectual property that composes the electronic knowledge base. Twitter is a witty and smart social network; users have 140 characters or less to compose their message. In the below section we present the aimed research questions and likely outcomes of the research known as the hypotheses. Afterwards the methodology used to collect the examined data is presented and our results post-data collection. The conclusion of the paper provides a discussion, conclusion and limitations of the aforementioned study.

Since the first decade of the 21st century, when social networks have become a part of everyday life, socially-oriented activities of Internet users have been on the continual rise. By creating a profile on social networks, Internet users cease to be passive Internet content and information consumers, but rather turn into creators, who shape a dynamic space of new media by virtue of their activities and personal contribution. One of the most significant areas in which social network users introduce numerous changes and innovative contents is most certainly communication and language practices. Each and every social network most often ground their recognizability on a fixed set of communication genres available to their members and in that way determine how the members are going to communicate with each other. This has made all the polyfunctional languages, Croatian among them, respond with a rather swift expansion of the existing vocabulary. In my paper, I will be presenting most productive word formation methods in which Croatian language makes up for social networks lexical gaps and shapes the communication style on social networks and instant messaging services. The first is a semantic loan from the English or neosemanticism word formation (e.g. profil, prijatelj, status, zid, dodati, blokirati, notifikacija); the second is a lexical loan word (e.g. lajkati, postati, šerati, atendati, hejtati, trolati, folover, selfi), and the third is creation of abbreviations (pozz, nezz, bmk, jbt, dns, fkt). Emergence of this new and abundant lexical layer in Croatian language requires from us to register a number of new entry units in general dictionaries of Croatian language.

Popularity of the social media and the amount of importance given by an individual to social media has significantly increased in last few years. As more and more people become part of the social networks like Twitter, Facebook, information which flows through the social network, can potentially give us good understanding about what is happening around in our locality, state, nation or even in the world. The conceptual motive behind the project is to develop a system which analyses about a topic searched on Twitter. It is designed to assist Information Analysts in understanding and exploring complex events as they unfold in the world. The system tracks changes in emotions over events, signalling possible flashpoints or abatement. For each trending topic, the system also shows a sentiment graph showing how positive and negative sentiments are trending as the topic is getting trended.

This study focused on social networks and business performance among Igbo businessmen in Ibadan, South-west Nigeria through the exploratory research design. Social exchange, social network and social capital theories were employed as theoretical framework. Twenty-six in-depth interviews, key informant interviews and case studies were conducted with purposively selected respondents in four business locations in Ibadan. The results showed that among the factors that facilitated migration of the Igbo to Ibadan were their interest to learn a trade, their inability to attain higher education, and having a relative in Ibadan. The types of social networks available showed that social network was not location bound, as all the respondents belonged to town progressive unions and mutual benefits/cooperative associations. Social networks played vital roles in business performance, including social support, access to loan, business growth and expansion. The main challenges to maintaining adequate social network in business were distrust, envy, unbridled competition, dishonesty and inability to keep terms of agreement. The study concludes that social networks have positively influenced the business performance of migrant Igbo in Ibadan. There is need for the Igbo to strengthen their social networks through honesty, forthrightness, and transparency in all their dealings.

What is the role of social networks in driving persistent differences between races and genders in education and labor market outcomes? What is the role of homophily in such differences? Why is such homophily seen even if it ends up with negative consequences in terms of labor markets? This chapter discusses social network analysis from the perspective of economics. The chapter is organized around the theme of externalities: the effects that one’s behavior has on others’ welfare. Externalities underlie the interdependencies that make networks interesting to social scientists. This chapter discusses network formation, as well as interactions between people’s behaviors within a given network, and the implications in a variety of settings. Finally, the chapter highlights some empirical challenges inherent in the statistical analysis of network-based data.
