The present study investigated constraints faced by chemistry teaching and learning. It also suggested possible solutions for addressing the identified constraints. A total sample of 138 respondents including 125 students in chemistry combinations, 10 chemistry teachers and 3 directors of study were chosen purposefully to participate in this study. A qualitative research method using case study design was employed to gather necessary data. Content and thematic analysis methods were used to analyze the data. The results revealed that abstract nature of some chemistry concepts, lack of laboratory apparatus and chemicals, lack of laboratory technician to support chemistry teachers are major constraints faced by teaching and learning of chemistry. This study suggested that government and educational stakeholders should supply adequate chemicals and apparatus, chemistry teachers must use hands-on activities and video simulations to concretize chemistry concepts. Chemistry teachers should also motivate learners to enjoy chemistry to reduce negative attitude of students towards chemistry. Lastly the recruitment of laboratory attendants was also suggested as a major strategy to support chemistry teachers in preparation of chemistry practices.

This study analyzes the English teacher candidate’s use of instructional media in the teaching practicum. The English teacher candidate who became the participant in this study was doing their teaching practicum in MTsN 5 Jember. This study applied the qualitative case study design. Interview and observation were done one time to select the participant. The four-times classroom observations and questionnaires were used in order to collect the data. This study employed the model of Creswell in analyzing the data. The findings of this study showed that the English teacher candidate applied one type of instructional media namely Visual Media. Those were Picture and Whiteboard. The way the teacher candidate implemented the instructional media was almost the same in each meeting of the teaching and learning process. However, the students’ participation and response were not always the same in every meeting. It depended on the way the teacher candidate managed the class activity.

Total management of overcrowded classrooms have across-the-board effects for English as a Second Language teaching and learning environments as in any subject. Greater attainment and achievements in schools depend on the choices made with regard to teacher-learner ratios that consider of classroom management. Recruitment of learners and teachers should ensure that classrooms are enabled to meet the demands of professional teaching challenges, amongst other, inidvidualised teaching and learning. The aim of the research was to explore the challenges and related matters in managing English as a Second Language overcrowded classrooms. A qualitative approach, steered by a case study design, purposively guided the study. It was deemed fit in order to understand the phenomena with deeper understanding of beliefs and situated lived experiences. Semi-structured interviews and nonparticipant observations were used as methods to generate data for analysis. The research exposed that copious problems were experienced by teachers and leaners who were subjected to overcrowded classrooms. Amongst many, noise and unruly behaviour, poor time management and teaching approaches result in such classes. Guiding principles regarding sound teacher-learner ratios should be put in place by policymakers and schools in order to support both teachers and learners for the success of teaching and learning.

The present study was conducted to explore the effect of smart classroom on learners’ performance in chemistry. This study was carried out on 71 senior five students selected randomly. After collecting data, t-test and linear regression analysis were used to analyze the data. Based on the research findings, it has been discovered that smart classroom motivated learners in teaching and learning organic chemistry. The results showed a significance difference between leaners taught through smart classroom and those not taught through smart classroom. These results also demonstrated that there is a positive effect of smart classroom on learners’ performance in chemistry. This indicated that an effort should be put in increasing adequate smart classrooms across the country to improve the teaching and learning process. Furthermore, other researchers should emphasize on the effect of smart classroom on other units in chemistry. In addition, educational stakeholders should emphasis on the use of smart classroom in instructional activities in education.

Attitude is essential issue to be considered in designing an appropriate learning for learners because it greatly affects the performance and implementation of the teaching and learning process in the classroom. One of the most important attitudes to be explored is the willingness of teachers to implement the curriculum set by the government. This study aims to determine the willingness of English teachers to carry out scientific approach and also to know the implementation of scientific approach in the learning. This research applies qualitative approach with case study design. It is conducted in SMAN 1 Situbondo with three teachers become the informants. Interview and observation are implemented to explore the willingness and the implementation of Scientific Approach. Data analysis in this research using Spradley’s method. From this research, it can be seen that the teachers has enough willingness to apply scientific approach totally. Furthermore, the implementation of scientific approach has been implemented well enough and has implemented it in accordance with government regulation.

The application of Integrated teaching materials in teaching and learning science is very important, to support students acquire comprehensive knowledge and skills and make the learning process more memorable. Teachers must be good at choosing methods and packaging the teaching materials well to attract students' learning interests. This study aims to examine the analysis of the development of integrated Science on Student Worksheet using the steps of cooperative methods of Student Teams Achievement Divisions type. The study was conducted using a qualitative approach (Multi-case single-site case study design). The data were collected through analytical documents and analyzed thematically with NVIVO 10 software. The results showed that the steps to develop integrated science on Student Worksheet using cooperative method of Student Teams Achievement Divisions are: (1) In Student Worksheet there must be motivation and apperception; (2) team building; (3) presentations from teachers; (4) learning activities in teams must be heterogeneous; (5) implementation of individual quizzes; (6) awarding. The results of this study are discussed with various results of previous research.

The advancement of technology provides education with varioussolutions to create new learning environments. Edmodo as a learning platform is believed to offera solution in the teaching of English, particularly for teaching writing. This research was aimed to investigate how Edmodo as a learning platform,in a blended learning setting, was implemented in teaching writing in its combination with Genre-based Approach, how Edmodo facilitated students’ engagement, and how students perceived the use of Edmodo in teaching and learning activities. This research employed a qualitative approach with case study design. The research involved 17 participants from the eleventh grade of a senior high school in Bandung, Indonesia. The data were collected through observations, document analysis, interviews, and questionnaires. The results showed that in teaching writing,it was possible to integrate Edmodo into GBA writing cycles. Edmodo also facilitated students’ engagement cognitively during classroom sessions. The students showed various responses towards the use of Edmodo based on the Uses and Gratification Theory (UGT) framework. Some issues on the use of Edmodo identified in this research were bandwidth, confusion in using Edmodo, incompatibility of smartphone applications, and students’ lack responsibilities for learning. The suggestions for the authority and areas of further research are presented.

This paper reports the results about teachers’ perceptions towards the utilization of WhatsApp in supporting teaching and learning of chemistry during the COVID-19 pandemic in Rwandan selected secondary schools. The collected data by using a survey questionnaire were from 18 chemistry teachers in Nyarugenge and Kicukiro Districts. The findings illustrated that WhatsApp is effective for teaching chemistry and supporting students learning. This application promotes students’ motivation, engagement, collaboration, interaction, participation, and ubiquitous learning. Despite the facilitation of collaboration between teachers and their students while using WhatsApp, the internet connection related problems including its cost and availability were among the hindering factors for effective collaboration for both students and teachers. The lack of smartphones and computers for some students, teachers, parents, or guardians was among the highlighted limitations for the participation of some students. The limited students’ management and their distraction were also highlighted by some teachers. The provision of computers, smartphones, and enough internet connection for all teachers, parents, or guardians were among the proposed potential solutions. To deal with students’ management and distractions while learning via WhatsApp, there should be the follow-up and guidance provided by teachers, guardians, or parents. Chemistry teachers and students are recommended to use WhatsApp as a supporting learning tool due to its added value of providing ubiquitous learning. Parents, boards in charge of education, and other educational stakeholders should integrate WhatsApp in teaching and learning to complement classroom learning.

Activities, which are defined as activities that support students’ mathematical learning and increase their levels of mathematic learning, enable the individual to be active by mentally and physically engaging in an action, to establish a cause-effect relationship, and to satisfy his/her curiosity. In this respect, activities have an important effect on the attitude towards mathematics. For this reason, it was aimed to examine the math activity preparation processes of pre-school primary teachers in the current study. To this end, the study was designed in accordance with the case study design, one of the qualitative research methods. In the analysis of the collected data, content analysis was employed. As a result of the study, it was found that the pre-service teachers prepared the activities themselves, they used books and the internet during the development process, and they prepared the activities for the introduction and ending sections of the lesson. In addition, it was observed that while preparing the activity, they considered its suitability for the level of the students and for the purpose of the lesson, they did not take into account individual differences while preparing the activities, and they made use of daily life examples in the activities. The pre-service teachers stated that they had difficulties in preparing activities suitable for the level of the students and stated that they did not consider themselves adequate in preparing activities. Therefore, more emphasis should be placed on improving the skills of developing activities suitable for primary school mathematics lessons in teacher training faculties.

This study aims to know the effect of teaching and learning using Algebraic Stucture materials based on mathematical proof to improve mathematical proof ability. The type of this study is experimental method with One Shot Case Study design. Population in this study is students of 6th semester in Departement of Mathematics Education and sample is students in class A and B which are consist of 83 students. The results show that teaching and learning using Algebraic Structure materials based on mathematical proof can improve mathematical proof ability with 16Z0bs=9,74>1,645=Z0,05"> . The total score of mathematical proof ability is 44,34 from 100 or 44,34 % (good). In each aspect, teaching and learning using Algebraic Stucture materials based on mathematical Proof can improve the ability to construct evidence includes the use of methods of proof and the use of fact, the concept and principles of mathematics by 26,99 from 50 or 53,98 % (good) and 17,14 from 50 or 34,70 % (good) in the aspect of the ability to read a proof to determine truth or mistake by seeing the correspondence between the system of axioms, premises, or theorems existing. Keywords : algebraic structure material, mathematical proof ability

Pre-service teachers’ first experiences and ideas prior to application affect their teaching activities. For this reason, it is aimed to determine transferring the experiences and ideas of prospective science teachers before lesson activities and its development with lesson activities. The study was carried out with 29 third year prospective teachers who attended the course named Laboratory Application II and undergraduate students at the Department of Science Education at Karadeniz Technical University during 2012-2013 spring semesters. The study was conducted by case study design. Thirty-minute lesson activities were carried out by them. Reflective writings constituted by candidates, lesson observations and plans were used as data collecting tools. They were examined through inductive thematic analyze. When compared before and during lesson activities process, it was determined that pre-service teachers’ perception, ideas or application had changed at some concepts. This case might be a proof of development of pre service teachers’ professional skills doing practice.
