Radiation-induced homogeneous precipitation in Ni-Be alloys was recently observed by high voltage electron microscopy. A coupling of interstitial flux with solute Be atoms is responsible for the precipitation. The present investigation further shows that precipitation is also induced at thin foil surfaces by electron irradiation under a high vacuum.

AbstractEuropium-doped hexagonal-mesostructured and nanotubular yttrium oxides templated by dodecylsulfate species as well as surfactant free bulk oxides were synthesized by the homogeneous precipitation method. All the as grown nanostructured or bulk materials with amorphous or poorly crystalline frameworks showed weak luminescence bands at room temperature. On calcination at 1000°C these materials were converted into highly crystalline yttrium oxides, resulting in a total increase in intensity of all the bands by one order of magnitude. In the hexagonal-mesostructured system, the main band due to the 5D0-7F2 transition for the calcined phases showed a sharp but asymmetrical multiplet splitting indicating multiple Eu sites. Concentration quenching was found at a Eu content of 3 mol% or above for these phases. In contrast, the main emission for the calcined solids in the nanotubular system occurred as poorly resolved broad band and the intensity of the main band at higher Eu content was significantly enhanced compared with those for the other two systems.

Sinkonin praktis tidak larut dalam air, sedikit larut dalam kloroform dan alkohol. Hal ini berdampak pada rendahnya penetrasi transfollicular sinkonin, karena hanya bahan aktif hidrofilik yang mampu melewati hair follicle. Dengan demikian dibutuhkan satu sistem penghantaran yang mampu menurunkan hidrofobisitas sinkonin untuk meningkatkan penetrasi sinkonin ke follicle. Niosom merupakan vesikel ampifilik dengan struktur lapisan rangkap yang terbentuk dari hidrasi kombinasi surfaktan nonionik dan kolesterol yang mampu menurunkan hidrofobisitas sinkonin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan proses pembuatan niosom sinkonin yang optimum. Pembuatan niosom sinkonin diawali dengan menentukan temperatur gelasi (Tg) dari span 60 dengan Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), kemudian dilanjutkan dengan optimasi proses meliputi: optimasi kecepatan rotavapor pembentukan film lapis tipis, temperatur hidrasi, kecepatan rotavapor hidrasi, waktu hidrasi, dan waktu sonikasi. Karakteristik vesikel niosom yang optimal meliputi: ukuran partikel dan indeks polidispersitas dengan menggunakan Particle Size Analized (PSA) serta efisiensi penjeratan sinkonin dengan menggunakan KCKT. Temperatur gelasi (Tg) span 60 45±2 oC, kecepatan rotavapor pembentukan film lapis tipis niosom 210 rpm, temperatur hidrasi 55±2 oC, kecepatan rotavapor hidrasi 210 rpm, waktu hidrasi 20 menit, waktu sonikasi suspensi niosom 1 menit. Ukuran vesikel yang diperoleh adalah 100–200 nm, indeks polidispersitas 0,2–0,4 dan efisiensi penjeratan niosom sinkonin 84,49±0,0025%. Proses pembuatan niosom sinkonin memiliki pengaruh besar terhadap hasil ukuran vesikel dan efisiensi penjeratan niosom sinkonin.

Objective: The objectives of present investigation were to prepare and evaluate proniosomes of neomycin sulphate (NS) by coacervation phase separation method by using sorbitan monostearate (span 60) and lecithin as a surfactant to increase the penetration through the skin and study the effect of concentration of the same. Methods: Proniosomes of neomycin sulphate (NS) were prepared by coacervation phase separation method by using span 60 and lecithin. The effect of concentration of span 60 and lecithin was studied by factorial design. The prepared proniosomes were converted to gel by using carbopol as a gelling agent. The prepared formulations were evaluated for entrapment efficiency, in vitro drug diffusion, in vitro antibacterial activity and in vivo skin irritation test etc. Results: All Formulation showed the percentage entrapment efficiency in the range 38.31±0.05% to 77.96±0.06%, good homogeneity and gel was easily spreadable with minimal of shear. Optimized formulation showed enhanced rate of diffusion in vitro, increase in zone of inhibition against staphylococcus aureus, no skin irritation and showed good stability. Conclusion: The results of present study indicates that proniosomal gel formulated by using combination of span 60, Lecithin, cholesterol can be used to enhance skin delivery of NS because of excellent permeation of drug. Developed proniosomal gel formulation was promising carrier for NS

In the current study, promising glass composites based on vanadium pentoxide (V2O5)-doped zinc borate (ZnB) were investigated in terms of their nuclear-radiation-shielding dynamics. The mass and linear attenuation coefficient, half-value layer, mean free path, tenth-value layer, effective atomic number, exposure-buildup factor, and energy-absorption-buildup factor were deeply simulated by using MCNPX code, Phy-X PSD code, and WinXcom to study the validation of ZBV1, ZBV2, ZBV3, and ZBV4 based on (100−x)(0.6ZnO-0.4B2O3)(x)(V2O5) (x = 1, 2, 3, 4 mol%) samples against ionizing radiation. The results showed that attenuation competencies of the studied glasses slightly changed while increasing the V2O5 content from 1 mol% to 4 mol%. The domination of ZnO concentration in the composition compared to B2O3 makes ZnO substitution with V2O5 more dominant, leading to a decrease in density. Since density has a significant role in the attenuation of gamma rays, a negative effect was observed. It can be concluded that the aforementioned substitution can negatively affect the shielding competencies of studied glasses.

AbstractRecently, sonochemistry has been used for the synthesis of inorganic compounds, such as zinc borates. In this study using zinc sulphate heptahydrate (ZnSO4·7H2O) and boric acid (H3BO3) as starting materials, a zinc borate compound in the form of Zn3B6O12·3.5H2O was synthesized using an ultrasonic probe. Product’s characterization was carried out with using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopy. Zinc borate compound’s chemical bond structure was observed with Raman and FTIR. From the XRD results it was seen that Zn3B6O12·3.5H2O can be quickly synthesized upon heating at 80°C and 85°C (55 min) or 90°C (45 min) in very high yield (>90%). The minimum particle size obtained was ~143 μm from the SEM results. Zinc borate compound was synthesized at a lower temperature in less time than other synthesized zinc metal compound in literature.

Samples of m-PPO (virgin and flame retarded) and high impact polystyrene blended with zinc and zinc borate (2ZnO·3B2O3·3.5H 2O), were pre pared. The effect of triaryl phosphate on the flame retardancy of PPO-HIPS in conjunction with zinc and zinc borate was studied. For polystyrene zinc borate shows some reduction in smoke generation. Zinc, however does not show any effect on smoke generation for high impact polystyrene. Triphenyl phosphate shows minimal flame retardancy in HIPS which is not enhanced by zinc. Addition of zinc gives an increase in oxygen index for FR m-PPO, whereas zinc borate decreases the OI values. Zinc borate may sequester triaryl phos phate and thus eliminate its vapor phase activity. Zinc borate shows a signifi cant reduction in smoke generation and rate of heat release for m-PPO.
