The work is devoted to the problem of fatigue strength of welded-cast joints as applied to the operating conditions of body parts of machines. Such operating conditions are characterized by non-uniformity of intensity and concentration of the load on parts and assemblies during the operation of the equipment. This heterogeneity of the load actualizes production of precisely welded-cast base parts for metalworking equipment beds. This is of considerable technological and economic interest. The aim of the work is to study the strength of welded-cast bearing structures in relation to the work of beds of heavy lathes. Unalloyed medium-carbon structural steel 35L and steel of ordinary quality MCT3 in the form of rolled products were used as the main materials for research. The research methods are presented. The study of the structure and properties of the welded joint made it possible to assess the technical feasibility of using the studied metals in the manufacture of welded-cast bearing structures. It has been established that welding of steel castings with rolled steel causes significant structural and mechanical heterogeneity. The influence of processing technology on the nature of formation of the structure of welded-cast joints is presented. The influence of heat treatment on the value of the hardness of the welded seam and the heat-affected zone was investigated. The study of the fatigue resistance of welded-cast specimens was carried out in relation to the operating conditions of joints undergoing vibration loads at normal temperatures, which can be classified as fatigue with a symmetric load cycle. It was found that the use of heat treatment of welded-cast specimens significantly reduces the mechanical heterogeneity of the joint along the seam and the heat-affected zone. Based on the results of studying mechanical characteristics, the choice of technology for the production of welded-cast joints is justified.

One of ways to improve properties of materials without changing the product shape toobtain the desired engineering applications is heating and cooling under effect of controlledsequence of heat treatment. The main aim of this study was to investigate the effect ofheating and cooling on the surface roughness, microstructure and some selected propertiessuch as the hardness and impact strength of Medium Carbon Steel which treated at differenttypes of heat treatment processes. Heat treatment achieved in this work was respectively,heating, quenching and tempering. The specimens were heated to 850°C and left for 45minutes inside the furnace as a holding time at that temperature, then quenching process wasperformed in four types of quenching media (still air, cold water (2°C), oil and polymersolution), respectively. Thereafter, the samples were tempered at 200°C, 400°C, and 600°Cwith one hour as a soaking time for each temperature, then were all cooled by still air. Whenthe heat treatment process was completed, the surface roughness, hardness, impact strengthand microstructure tests were performed. The results showed a change and clearimprovement of surface roughness, mechanical properties and microstructure afterquenching was achieved, as well as the change that took place due to the increasingtoughness and ductility by reducing of brittleness of samples.

This article deals with structural features and characteristic changes that affect the mechanical characteristics after different service life in real conditions using the example of the blades of the 4th stage of turbine GTE-45-3 with an operating time of 13,000 to 100,000 hours. To study the change in the state of the material under different operating conditions, determine the degree of influence of heat treatment on the regeneration of the microstructure, and restore the mechanical characteristics of the alloy after different periods of operation, non-standard methods were used: relaxation tests on miniature samples to determine the physical yield strength and microplasticity limit and quantitative evaluation of the plasticity coefficient of the material from experimental values of hardness, which allow us to identify the changes occurring in the microvolumes of the material and predict the performance of the product as a whole.

This study evaluated the microstructure, grain size, and mechanical properties of the alloy 800H rotary friction welds in as-welded and post-weld heat-treated conditions. The standards for the alloy 800H not only specify the composition and mechanical properties but also the minimum grain sizes. This is because these alloys are mostly used in creep resisting applications. The dynamic recrystallization of the highly strained and plasticized material during friction welding resulted in the fine grain structure (20 ± 2 µm) in the weld zone. However, a small increase in grain size was observed in the heat-affected zone of the weldment with a slight decrease in hardness compared to the base metal. Post-weld solution heat treatment (PWHT) of the friction weld joints increased the grain size (42 ± 4 µm) in the weld zone. Both as-welded and post-weld solution heat-treated friction weld joints failed in the heat-affected zone during the room temperature tensile testing and showed a lower yield strength and ultimate tensile strength than the base metal. A fracture analysis of the failed tensile samples revealed ductile fracture features. However, in high-temperature tensile testing, post-weld solution heat-treated joints exhibited superior elongation and strength compared to the as-welded joints due to the increase in the grain size of the weld metal. It was demonstrated in this study that the minimum grain size requirement of the alloy 800H friction weld joints could be successfully met by PWHT with improved strength and elongation, especially at high temperatures.

Magnesium alloy tailor-welded blanks(MTWBs) of AZ31 and AZ80 sheet had been manufactured by gas tungsten arc welded(GTAW), which the thickness were 0.8mm. The welding properties of Magnesium alloy sheet had been analyzed, and the technology parameters of GTAW were determined by experiment study, which was that welding thread being Φ2.0mm, welding electricity 50A, welding voltage 9V, welding rate 12—13cm/min. The research results presented that the grain in welded seam was isometric crystal, and the grains were branching crystal in heat-affected zone (HAZ). For MTWBs of AZ31and AZ80 sheet which the thickness was 0.8mm, the forming parameters were that the forming temperature of AZ31 being 190-220°C, and forming temperature of AZ80 being 310°C-350°C, and the temperature of tools is 180°C~200°C.

The Inconel X-750 indicates good hot corrosion resistance, high stability and strength at high temperatures and for this reason the alloy is used in manufacturing of gas turbine hot components. The objective of this research was study the effect of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on fusion zone and heat affected zone microstructure and mechanical properties of Inconel X-750 weld. After welding, samples were solutionized at 1500 0C. Various aging temperature and times were studied. The results show that aging temperature and time during PWHT can greatly affect microstructure and hardness in fusion zone and heat affected zone. As high aging temperature was used, the grain size also increased and M23C6 at the grain boundary decreased. This can result in decreased of hardness. Moreover excessive aging temperature can result in increasing MC carbide intensity in parent phase (austenite). It can also be observed that M23C6 at the grain boundary decreased due to high aging temperature. This resulted in decreasing of hardness of weld metal and heat affected zone. Experimental results showed that the aging temperature 705 0C aging time of 24 hours provided smaller grain size, suitable size and intensity of MC carbide resulting in higher hardness both in weld metal and HAZ.

To upgrade the operational stability of the tool at LLC “Karbaz”, Sumy, Ukraine, carbonation of tools and samples for research in melts of salts of cyanates and carbonates of alkali metals at 570–580 °C was carried out to obtain a layer thickness of 0.15–0.25 mm and a hardness of 1000–1150 НV. Tests of the tool in real operating conditions were carried out at the press station at LLC “VO Oscar”, Dnipro, Ukraine. The purpose of the test is to evaluate the feasibility of carbonitriding of thermo-strengthened matrix rings and needle-mandrels to improve their stability, hardness, heat resistance, and endurance. If the stability of matrix rings after conventional heat setting varies around 4–6 presses, the rings additionally subjected to chemical-thermal treatment (carbonitration) demonstrated the stability of 7–9 presses due to higher hardness, heat resistance, the formation of a special structure on the surface due to carbonitration in salt melts cyanates and carbonates. Nitrogen and carbon present in the carbonitrided layer slowed down the processes of transformation of solid solutions and coagulation of carbonitride phases. The high hardness of the carbonitrified layer is maintained up to temperatures above 650 °C. If the stability of the needle-mandrels after conventional heat treatment varies between 50–80 presses, the needles, additionally subjected to chemical-thermal treatment (carbonitration) showed the stability of 100–130 presses due to higher hardness, wear resistance, heat resistance, the formation of a special surface structure due to carbonitration in melts of salts of cyanates and carbonates.  ABSTRAKTanto merupakan senjata tajam yang berasal dari Jepang dan merupakan senjata kedua bagi para Samurai di Jepang. Tanto biasa terbuat dari baja karbon menengah hingga baja karbon tinggi yang. Material baja yang digunakan untuk pembuatan Tanto dalam penelitian ini adalah baja AISI seri O1 karena memiliki karakteristik sifat mampu bentuk yang baik serat dapat dikuatkan melalui proses heat treatment. Material baja ini dibuat dengan proses tempa lipat  dengan variasi tempa empat lipatan dan satu lipatan. Pembuatan Tanto dan spesimen uji dilakukan dengan proses tempa lipat secara konvensional menggunakan tungku arang, dengan temperatur tempa rata-rata yaitu ±1200oC, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan quenching pada temperatur ± 850oC, serta tempering pada temperatur ±250oC. Penelitian ditujukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari proses tempa empat lipatan dan tempa satu lipatan terhadap sifat mekanik, yaitu kekerasan dan kekuatan impak serta untuk melihat perubahan pada struktur mikro. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa nilai kekerasan paling tinggi sebesar41HRC yang dimiliki oleh pada raw material, ,sedangkan nilai impak paling tinggi sebesar 224,02 Joule/cm² ayng dicapai oleh material dengan proses tempa empat lipatan, Fasa akhir yang ditemukan pada baja tempa empat lipatan adalah  bainit dan martensit, sementara  perlit dan ferit ditemukan  pada baja satu lipatan, dan lath martensit ditemukan pada pada raw material  Kata kunci: Pisau Tanto, Tempa lipat ,Quenching, Tempering, Uji Impak  ABSTRACT Tanto is a sharp weapon originating  from Japan and is the second weapon for Samurai in Japan. Tanto is usually made of medium carbon steel to high carbon steel. The material which is used in this research is AISI O1 series steel because of its high ability to be formed and also can be made tough through a heat treatment process. This steel is made by folding forge process, with variation in number of folding, which is 4 folds and 1 fold. The making of Tanto and test specimens was carried out by conventional fold forging processes by using a charcoal furnace, with an average forging temperature at ± 1200oC, continue with quenching at ± 850oC, and tempering at ± 250oC. The research is carried out in order to determine the effect of the four-folds forging and one-fold forging to the mechanical behavior, which are hardness and impact strength,  and also to see change in its micro structure. The test that have been carried out shows that the highest hardness value of 41 HRC owned by raw material, while the highest impact value of 224.02 Joules / cm² obtained by material with four layer forging process. Final phases that found in the four-fold forged steel are bainite and martensite, pearlite and ferrite found in one-fold forged steel. and lath martensite in found in the raw material. Keywords: Tanto Knife, Folding Forging, Quenching, Tempering, Testing, Impact Tests
