<p>The purpose of this study was to analyze white supremacy and structural racism in the film "The Shawshank Redemption". The method used is descriptive-qualitative to describe white supremacy and structural racism in the film. Data is obtained, analyzed and explained based on dialogues contained in the film, namely: 1) white supremacy that is analyzed from a) the appearances of the character using a sequence table, and b) visible glorification and invisible glorification using glorification dialogue table, and 2) structural racism, using binary opposition, namely positive and negative characterization of the characters. By the sequence table, the character that is predominant in the film is Andy Dufresne. From the glorification dialogue table, visible glorification gets the highest presentation while invisible glorification gets the lowest presentation. This shows that white supremacy exists in American film. As for structural racism, the negative characterization of the supporting characters is the highest while the negative characterization of the main character is the lowest. The main purpose of this study is to explicate the aesthetics portrayed in Geni Jora novel by Abidah El Khalieqy, published by Qanita Bandung in 2009. Regarding the aesthetics approach, the author believes that this novel has presented a salient contribution to producing more creative literary works. Comprehensive dictions are carefully selected and tightened with strong aesthetic sense in representing particular moments from this novel in order to demonstrate the power of language as a strong energy in expressing any incident. Aesthetic conflicts, as a part of postmodern aesthetics, mostly appear in any scene of this novel as Abidah El Khalieqy tried to explore the most common problems women face against restrictions of binary opposition in society. Postmodern aesthetics is definitely characterized by the main character that makes this novel has its power to convey the other sides of a woman’s life. Key Words: aesthetics; language energy; aesthetics conflict Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap dan mendeskripsikan estetika dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy dengan pendekatan estetika. Estetika berperan penting bagi pengarang dalam proses kreatif penciptaan karya sastra. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy yang diterbitkan penerbit Qanita Bandung tahun 2009. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan bahasa sebagai energi untuk mengungkapkan peristiwa dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy tampak melalui pilihan kata (diksi) yang mampu mewakili suasana tertentu sehingga menjadikan peristiwa tersebut menyatu dan memberikan pemaknaan estetik yang cukup kuat. Adapun bentuk estetika posmodern yang digunakan dalam novel Geni Jora karya Abidah El Khalieqy berupa estetika pertentangan karena di dalamnya mengungkapkan bagaimana sesungguhnya persoalan-persoalan perempuan dikonstruksi secara sosial, dibentuk dan disimplikasi dalam cerita dengan mematahkan sebagian oposisi biner yang selama ini terjadi dalam masyararakat. Estetika posmodern yang diungkapkan melalui tokoh utama membuat novel ini memiliki kekuatan tersendiri untuk menyampaikan sisi lain kehidupan perempuan.

This study focuses on the analysis of the main characters; Jack Frost, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, Pitch Black, and the Sandman’s internal and external conflicts in “Rise of the Guardians” Movie. The purpose of this study is to find out type of the internal and external conflicts based on the William Kenney’s theory. The study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative approach. The findings of this study; internal conflict: Jack Frost vs. Himself and the external conflict include Santa Claus vs. Yeti, Jack Frost vs. Easter Bunny, Pitch Black vs. Group of Guardians, Jack Frost vs. Group of Guardians, Jack Frost vs. Pitch Black. The problem solving of those conflict is competitive, because the Group of the Guardians pursues their own concerns at the Pitch Black’s expense.   Key Words: Conflict, main character, rise of the guardians, movie

This study deals with the characterization of Ronggur as the main character in Toba Dreams Movie and it was aimed to knowing the characteristics of antisocial personality of Ronggur in the movie. It was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data was taken from Toba Dreams movie and the data were which showed actions and dramatic statements from Ronggur and other characters in the movie. The findings of the study showed that the characteristics of antisocial personality of Ronggur are : (1) failure to conform to social norms and respect lawful behaviours with 2 items, (2) deceitfulness with 10 items, (3) impulsivity with 5 items, (4) irritability with 33 items, (5) reckless disregard for the safety of self or others with 7 items, (6) Lack of Remorse with 3 items. The method of characterization and antisocial characteristics used on the main character in Toba Dreams have different meaning. Which in Robert & Jacobs theory of characterization methods presents antisocial personality characteristics, whereas in Schwartz theory antisocial characteristics apply to see the depiction of antisocial personality. Keywords: Characterization, antisocial personality, main character, movie.

The study was aimed to find outthe characterizations and the most dominant characteristic of Amy Elliot Dunne in thefilm. The study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were taken from all utterances of Amy’s dialogues and monologues which were transcribed into 39 selected sentences. The findings of the study were: (1) the kinds of Amy characterizations: intelligent(17.94%), perfectionist (12.82%), insecure(28.20%), liar (33.33%)and vengeful(7.69%);(2) the most dominant characteristic of Amy was liar(33.33%).Keywords: characterization, characteristic, main character, film.

The purpose of this research is to discribe the characterization of the main characters, the plot in the film with a tittle Forget Me Not, and to determine a relationship between those two elements. Author used structuralism theory to analyze characterization of main character, plot, and the relation between those two elements. Furthermore, the analysis arranged using descriptive qualitative method. The data source of this research is a film with a tittle Forget Me Not, and using dialog and scene in these film to analyze it. Referring and taking notes is a method to collecting data and using structural and narrative method to analyze the data. Based on the analysis, the result of this research are the main character in the film Forget Me Not is Oribe Azusa and Hayama Takashi. Oribe Azusa has a kind, mysterious and resign characterization. Meanwhile Hayama Takashi has a faithful and liar characterization. The plot in these film is a progressive plot. And the characterization of the main character and the plot in a film called Forget Me Not is interrelated each other until the story in these film can go trough to the final stage.

This thesis deals with the characterization of Louis Bloom as the main character in Nightcrawler Movie. The study was aimed to know the characteristics of antisocial personality and characterization methods of antisocial personality of Louis Bloom in the movie. The study was conducted by applying descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data was Nightcrawler movie. The data of the study were actions and statements from Louis Bloom and other characters in the movie. The findings of the study showed that the characteristics of antisocial personality of Louis Bloom are: (1) failure to conform to social norms and respect lawful behaviors with 12 items, (2) deceitfulness with 17 items, (3) impulsivity with 2 items, (4) irritability with 4 items, (5) reckless disregard for the safety of self or others with 11 items, and (6) lack of remorse with 9 items. From the five characterization methods by Roberts and Jacob theory, only three of them which show the characteristics of antisocial personality in Nightcrawler movie, they are actions with 17 items, dramatic statements and thoughts with 28 items, and statements by other characters with 15 items.

The purpose of this research is to know the character and characterization of Forrest Gump as main character in the movie by analyzing the evidence from the dialogues and his actions in the movie. To know what the character and characterization of Forrest, the writer used the method descriptive-qualitative. The writer employs himself to collect the data by reading script, watching the movie and classifying them. The writer focused the dialogues of the movie, and then followed by classifying and analyzing the character and characterization through the big five personality theory The writer found that The Character in the movie are Forrest as Protagonist Character and Forrest as mayor Character. The  Forrest character in the movie viewed the Big Five personality, Forrest have all the type of the character such as Openness, Contentiousness, Extraversion or Introversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism, but the dominate of Forrest character is Agreeableness. Forrest have high agreeableness, he have the character flexible, trusting, cooperative, forgiving, empathic, soft-hearted, tolerant. Keywords: Character, big five personality

Characterization is the author’s effort in presenting the character of the characters. It is made to build and develop the characters in a story. This characterization is related to the attitudes, desires, interests, emotions, and moral principles of the characters. This characterization also suggests the embodiment and development of the characters in the story. The objectives of this research are to analyze the characterization of the main characters in “Hichki” movies. The approach used in this analysis is descriptive qualitative research, the research data are from dialogues between characters in the movie that are linked to character characterization. The results of this research show that Naina Mathur is the main character or central figure in the “Hichki” movie. She is Tourette’s syndrome sufferer. The characterizations are educated woman, always keep the spirit and never give up, have confidence, stands to belief and stick to the principles, protective, optimistic, creative, responsible, and being a good teacher. This movie shows the character of Naina Mathur as a teacher who is rarely found in educational circles. Like teachers who are challenged to guide their students to develop according to their respective talents. Naina Mathur is a central character where her character becomes the essence as well as the beginning until the ending of the story.
