This study discusses the psychological aspects of the main character. The purpose of the study is to explain the understanding and details in depth about the personality and emotional classification of the main character. This is a descriptive qualitative study. The approach used is literary psychology. The documentation technique by means of reading and taking notes is used to obtain data from Hamka's novelette entitled “Waiting for the Sounding”. The content analysis technique is used in this study to find information and in-depth understanding of the data collected. Data validation uses theory triangulation. The results and discussion show that Mr. Sharif's personality is influenced by the id, the ego, and the superego. Mr. Sharif in the novelette is described as having a lonely character and suffering from the life he lived. He worked as a Dutch employee in order to escape the misery of the colonial period at that time. Therefore, it seems that Mr. Sharif’s various emotions demonstrate a form of conflict both with oneself (internal conflict) in the form of regret and feelings of guilt and with the environment (external conflict) in the form of love, envy and hate, and loneliness

Data is obtained, analyzed and explained based on dialogues contained in the film, namely: 1) white supremacy that is analyzed from a) the appearances of the character using a sequence table, and b) visible glorification and invisible glorification using glorification dialogue table, and 2) structural racism, using binary opposition, namely positive and negative characterization of the characters. By the sequence table, the character that is predominant in the film is Andy Dufresne. From the glorification dialogue table, visible glorification gets the highest presentation while invisible glorification gets the lowest presentation. Abstract- In a modern environment, the existence of genius loci is starting to become rare. Places seem to lose their defining characteristics and this diminishes people’s experience with them. In 2015, Sunaryo succeeded in building Wot Batu as a place that can exemplify a “man-made place” created in “modern” times that can showcase the existence of a genius loci. Therefore, this research discusses the factors that contribute to the emergence of genius loci and how it emerged in Wot Batu. This research employs a descriptive-qualitative approach. The researcher analyzes theories that are related to definitions of, factors that constitute place, and types of genius loci, which are then utilized to provide an observation of the object. The data that is gathered consist of organizations of spatial structure and articulation of concrete properties. In addition, the researcher also interviewed Sunaryo Sutono about the background of Wot Batu.  The researcher identifies and classifies said data in a table of factors that constitute place which are then summarized to serve as a basis for explaining the genius loci that is established in Wot Batu. In Wot Batu, the creator’s strong intent to express spiritual meanings is accomplished in a specific way. The complexity of that spiritual understanding is manifested in its spatial structures and concrete properties that are impressively detailed. The ideas and personal life experiences that were once only found in Sunaryo Sutono’s mind are brought into the world as a very specific place, and those things eventually coalesce into a totality and form genius loci that is meaningful to its user.  Key Words: genius loci, Wot Batu, Sunaryo, Ciburial Bandung
