A sound understanding of the water permeability evolution in fractured shale is essential to the optimal hydraulic fracturing (reservoir stimulation) strategies. We have measured the water permeability of six fractured shale samples from Qiongzhusi Formation in southwest China at various pressure and stress conditions. Results showed that the average uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and average tensile strength of the Qiongzhusi shale samples were 106.3 and 10.131 MPa, respectively. The nanometre-sized (tiny) pore structure is the dominant characteristic of the Qiongzhusi shale. Following this, we proposed a pre-stressing strategy for creating fractures in shale for permeability measurement and its validity was evaluated by CT scanning. Shale water permeability increased with pressure differential. While shale water permeability declined with increasing effective stress, such effect dropped significantly as the effective stress continues to increase. Interestingly, shale permeability increased with pressure when the pressure is relatively low (less than 4 MPa), which is inconsistent with the classic Darcy's theory. This is caused by the Bingham flow that often occurs in tiny pores. Most importantly, the proposed permeability model would fully capture the experimental data with reasonable accuracy in a wide range of stresses.

Competition is among the pivotal features and it considered as one of he international interaction movement. Generally, relationships between all countries, such as relations between individuals, no matter how close and cooperative they face, are not without manifestations of competition and conflict that may take a peaceful structure, and even take the method of violence that sometimes reaches the degree of physical confrontation. Since the end of the Cold War, international competition has become an inevitable phenomenon that characterizes international relations due to the absence of an ideological counterfactual, and as a result of many of these forces owe the same ideology as the strongest powers on the international scene. It can be noticed that they are competing forces rather than conflicting forces. Characterized by the rules of management of international relationships between these most powerful features is competition feature , not the conflict. Accordingly, the phenomenon of international competition is an aspect of international dealings. In addition it is a dominant characteristic of most international transactions between several states, especially when it comes to the economic aspect, as the conflict of interests between states necessitates the supremacy of competition in international relations. The US-European relations are stated as other manifestations of interaction between countries and do not differ too much from other international relationships, as they have cases of competition despite the manifestations of cooperation and understanding between them in many life aspects towards various international issues, but the competition between them has its nature and specifics. This topic aims to identify the nature of competition in relations between the United States of America and the European Union countries in several vital regions of the world, most notably the Middle East and the African continent. Keywords: International Competition, International Relations, International Conflict, The Middle East.

Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage and makes the patient lose or impair language skills. One of the diseases which often cause people to experience aphasia is stroke. In this study, the researchers observed the characteristics of language impairment of Sarah Scott. She’s a young woman suffering from Broca's aphasia after stroke. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method on the utterances she produced in SymphUK YouTube channel as the data source. In collecting the data, the researchers watched and transcribed the utterances containing the language disorder. The analysis used the theory of Hallowel (2017) on the characteristics of Broca's aphasia and Ardila (2014) about the linguistics defects in aphasia. The finding shows that the most dominant characteristic was dysnomia, literal (phonemic) paraphasia, and agrammatism among twenty-six utterances. Then, the other characteristics that also appeared were disfluency, repetition, and telegraphic speech. Furthermore, the levels of language-impaired in Sarah Scott were morphemic, morphosyntactic, and phonetic. Thus, the following study should cover more subjects with different age, gender, and language to see whether more variation of characteristics of Broca's aphasia appears in different contexts.

Purpose: This study is aimed at establishing hierarchy and strategy relationship in registered professional bodies in Kenya. Design/Method/Approach: The dependent variable was measured through policy implementation, resource assessment and motivation. Hierarchy culture as an independent variable was measured through dominant characteristic and management of employees. Using a descriptive design approach, the study collected a return of 132 responses from a target of 168 in professional bodies of Kenya.  The study set up a null hypothesis to be tested using a linear regression model to establish the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Findings: For hierarchy constructs, it was established that there was a significant correlation between strategy implementation and dominant characteristics r = .316, p < .05 with the management of employees r = .288, p < .05. Theoretical Implications: This paper expanded the body of research on organizational culture by showing that there is a significant relationship between the hierarchy culture and strategy implementation with both dominant characteristics and management of employees showing positive effects for the relationship. Originality/Value: This research shows that the organizations that are most successful in the market have a strong hierarchy culture within their environment. Therefore, professional bodies must at least have a mechanism of ensuring hierarchy culture within the organization. Research Limitations/Future Research: The study only looked at the association between hierarchy culture and strategy implementation. Future studies should investigate the relationship between strategy implementation and other dimensions of an organizational culture.   Paper type: Empirical

The phenomenon of clinical miscarriage sparks increasing interest of researchers from non-medical disciplines. Although there is still a significant disproportion between the voluminous literature on spontaneous miscarriage from a medical perspective compared to the growing number of studies conducted in the social and philosophical sciences, the process of changing the research orientation of early procreative losses is gradually progressing. The hitherto dominant one-sided biomedical approach is giving way to holistic axiomedical approaches. This study contributes to the axiomedical model of clinical miscarriage. It aims to provide an in-depth analysis of four key contexts of procreative loss occurring at early stages of prenatal development - anthropological, relational (parental attachment), psychological and supportive. As a result of the research conducted, it is concluded that the main dominant characteristic of clinical miscarriage as a thanatic event is the level of anthropological settlements regarding the status of the foetus and its ethical implications.

Personality is one of the main things that are being shaped during the formation of Catholic Priest.  However, assessments of personality are often only based on preceptor observations. This study aims to find out the personality characteristics of the brothers to help the preceptors educating them. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with 82 brothers who live in Archdiocese of Jakarta as participants. Participants are currently undergoing stage of Bachelor studies, Pastoral Orientation Year, or Master studies with age range of 20-38 years (M = 23.44, SD = 3.447). Participants were collected by convenience sampling method, by distributing online questionnaires. The general personality description is obtained by processing the score of each Big Five Marker (IPIP-BFM-50) in Indonesian domain with descriptive statistical methods. ANOVA test is carried out to see the differences based on the formation stages. Most of the brothers have moderate scores for each domain, so the expressions can be trained to suit the needs of Church. However, some of them have extremely low score on Emotional Stability (3.7%), thus showing high tendency to be susceptible to stress and negative emotions. Agreeableness is the dominant characteristic as there are no extreme low scores in this domain and the SD on the raw score is also the smallest. It is also found that there are significant differences in Agreeableness based on the stages of the formation that are being undertaken.

As the institution of university has evolved into a highly diverse educational community, the language of communication (or linguistic capital) in higher education plays a vital role. Therefore, English as a medium of instruction (EMI) became the dominant characteristic of academia in many parts of a (globalized) world. This growing influence of EMI has affected the scope of both higher education and academic research. Being a linguistic form of capital, the significance of English as a major linguistic resource can be analyzed historically since the institution of university was founded. In fact, EMI seems to have challenged the linguistic diversity and accessibility to higher education in the contemporary world. The case of Canadian higher education highlights new directions in the exploitation of the linguistic capital at university, and the emerging concept of a multilingual university could offer some unique opportunities for knowledge mobilization and access to higher education. Thus, the issue of linguistic capital at the current (globalized) university needs to be re-examined.

This article discusses the problem of self-expression of a language personality in the modern blogosphere on the example of Instagram and Twitter, as well as the problems of describing communicative interactions in personal Internet discourse. As subjects of personal communication, the authors studied the characteristics of self-expression of media personalities on the example of well-known politicians and representatives of the media community. The authors attempted to analyze the communicative means of self-expression of a public personality, which are used to revise the image of a carrier of cultural, linguistic, communicative and activity values and reflexive processes in the modern blogosphere. Using the example of blogs of famous personalities, the authors describe the process of creating a media image of a language personality through the means of self-expression of its personal assessments, experience and ability to influence the emotional mood of society. The research material has shown that the dominant characteristic of self-expression is the created image and publicistic image of the language personality, confirmed by the use of language and communication tools of different stylistic markings, various aspects of the modality of the proposed opinions, the necessity and obligation of decisive actions of society in assessing various political and economic situations. Self-expression of a media personality in the blogosphere is based on freedom of speech and thinking, as well as on the use of language and communication tools that actualize the cognitive and motivational factors of the presence of a person in this communication format. Posted blogs of well-known media personalities form an information picture of modern society, the analysis of their quantitative indicators is an assessment of the degree of readiness and ability of the target audience to perceive and follow the ideas broadcast by the authors of these blogs.

Rail corrugation can reduce riding comfort by vibration and noise, and even cause running accident. In this paper, the vehicle–track coupled dynamic model was developed for a metro’s tangential track considering the wear in rail materials. The influences of different track structure parameters and vehicle speed on the generation and development of rail corrugation of the tangential track were analyzed using the developed model by the control variable method. The results show that for different parameters, the friction power in wheel–rail contact patch fluctuates with time, but the overall fluctuation range is relatively uniform. Meantime, an analysis of one-third octave curves of the friction power reveals that the characteristic frequencies of friction power are mainly concentrated in the middle and low frequency bands. At the dominant characteristic frequency, the longitudinal stiffness and damping of fasteners, and lateral and vertical damping of fasteners have less influence on rail corrugation, while the lateral and vertical stiffnesses of fasteners, spacing of fasteners, wheel–rail friction coefficient and vehicle speed have greater effect on rail corrugation. The changes in vertical stiffness and spacing of fasteners will cause the characteristic frequency of friction power to be offset, resulting in a shift from 80[Formula: see text]Hz to 100[Formula: see text]Hz, which will further lead to rail corrugation of the corresponding wavelength. Thus, it can be concluded that the vertical stiffness and spacing of fasteners have an important impact on the generation and development of rail corrugation at the specific frequency. Besides, the variations of the other variables bring little change to the characteristic frequencies of friction power as well as on rail corrugation. The mechanism of parameters unveiled here provides some guides for the parameter optimization problem on restraining the generation or development of rail corrugation on the tangential track.

Abstract Discontent is seen as a critical driver for the appeal of populism, yet studies have typically focused on cases of populism in opposition. We argue that scholars’ emphasis on populism in opposition led them to overlook the roles of elite messages and partisanship in the adoption of populist attitudes. Drawing on theories of elite-driven public opinion, we contend that populist attitudes do not need to be rooted in discontent. In cases of populism in power, those who are more satisfied politically and economically, and partisans of the ruling party should display higher levels of populist attitudes. We provide observational and experimental survey evidence in this direction from Turkey, where a populist party has long been in power. We also find that the dominant characteristic of support for populism in power is an emphasis on popular sovereignty at the expense of institutions of horizontal accountability.
