Purpose. One of the main factors holding back the increase in spring barley yield is high soil acidity in the Forest-Steppe and Polissya natural zone of Ukraine. Aluminum is a major toxic factor of acidic soils. Therefore, one of the ways to increase the yield of barley is to create aluminum-resistant varieties of this crop. These studies are aimed at obtaining, highlighting the results of work and determining the prospects of selection for the creation of varieties of spring barley, tolerant to the effects of edaphic stress of high soil acidity. Methods. Field (phenological observations and accounting), laboratory (establishment of aluminostability of collection varieties), biometric and measuring-weight (for accounting of productivity and yield), mathematical and statistical (objective evaluation of the obtained experimental data). Results. Research on the evaluation and creation of promising breeding material and varieties adapted to high soil acidity was conducted in the experimental fields of the Institute of Feed Research and Agriculture of Podillya of NAAS (2013-2019). According to the results of the research conducted in the laboratory, the potential 73 aluminium resistant varieties of spring barley were established, and the results of verification of the obtained data in the field against the background of natural high soil acidity were shown. The obtained research results made it possible to select samples that are potential donors of tolerance to the toxic effects of Al3+ ions and high soil acidity. Promising breeding material of spring barley, tolerant to the effects of edaphic stress of high soil acidity, which is effectively used in the creation of new varieties of spring barley has been cteated. Conclusions. Evaluation of productivity of the studied samples, which were isolated by laboratory evaluation of potential aluminium resistance, in the field on a natural background with high soil acidity (pH 4.3-4.8) confirmed the effectiveness of this method in the selection process, aimed at creation varieties tolerant to cultivation in conditions of highly acid soils.

The Borisovsky district of the Belgorod region, located in the south-west of the forest-steppe zone of the Central Forest Region, was chosen for the study. The study covered an 11-year period, during which 3 cycles of agrochemical soil survey were conducted in the district - in 2010, 2016 and 2020. Analyzing the use of mineral and organic fertilizers, an increase in crop yield indicators was noted. Thus, an increase in the dose of organic fertilizers (up to 1.96 t/ha) and mineral fertilizers (up to 127.2 kg/ha) made it possible to obtain 5.13 t/ha of winter wheat, 4.19 t/ha of spring barley, 7.9 t/ha of corn for grain and 3.29 t/ha of sunflower seeds. In addition, the content of macro and microelements in the soil has changed. The active fight against soil acidity affected the content of available forms of phosphorus and zinc, the indicators of which decreased slightly.

The nature of the inheritance of resistance to Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei in the crosses of genotypes of spring barley in F1 and transgressive variability in F2 populations are investigated. Inheritance of the trait of resistance to Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei in F1, by hybridization of genotypes of spring barley with known genes of resistance to Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei in European varieties Eunova (mlo11) and Barke (mlo9), which are located on chromosome 1H, was positively dominated. Inheritance of the F1 trait in Aspen (mlo11) and Adonis (mlo9) cultivars was partially positive. The influence of parental pairs for hybridization on the indicators of the degree of phenotypic dominance, hypothetical and true heterosis was established. Resistance to Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei in F1 hybrids was observed heterosis (positive dominance) in fve hybrid combinations (hp = 1.1–1.9 %): Barke/Badoryi, Barke/Sanktrum, Parnas/Rostentsii, Badoryi/ Barke, Eunova/Zvershennia. Hypothetical heterosis (Ht) in F1 was observed in 13 of 16 hybrids (from +2.8 % to +97.6 %). A positive value of true heterosis (Htb) in F1 was observed in 15 hybrids out of 16 (from +1.9 % to +98.8 %). Inheritance of the trait of resistance to Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei in all studied hybrids was influenced by the cytoplasm of the mother plant, except for the hybrid Eunova / Triangel, where the influence of the nuclear apparatus was detected. Hybrids were found in the F 2 population with high resistance to Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei, which exceeded the parental components, which indicates a signifcant shaping process and the possibility of selection on the basis of the studied trait. The degree of positive transgression ranged from 16.0 % to 73.0 % in hybrids Aspen / Skarlet, Adonis / Vanja, Barke / Badoryi, Barke / Sanktrum, Eunova / Triangel and Eunova / Zvershennia, where highly resistant varieties were used for the mother form. The combinations in which the frequency of transgression was observed in more than 50.0 % of plants are hybrids: Eunova / Triangel, Barke / Sanktrum, Eunova / Zvershennia, Parnas / Rostentsii and Barke / Badoryi. Key words: spring barley, resistance, Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei, combinations of crossing, inheritance, F1, true and hypothetical heterosis, degree of phenotypic dominance, F 2, degree and frequency of transgressions.

Relevance. Evaluation of initial forms for breeding is one of the stages of the selection process. The global gene pool of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is replenished annually with hundreds of new varieties containing a different combination of genes. In this regard, it is relevant to constantly study accessions of different geographical origins according to various criteria, including productivity indicators. The research was conducted to identify genotypes for creating a new highly productive breeding material for spring barley.Methods. The objects of study were 59 accessions of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), represented by forms from Russia, CIS countries, Europe and the USA. The study of the initial forms was carried out according to The guidelines for the study of the collection of barley and oats (VIR, 1981).Results. As a result of the study of the spring barley initial material in condition of the Samara region (Kinel) in 2017-2019, 22 varieties were identified that are characterized by consistently high values of productivity indicator: Signal (K-30846, Altai region), Anna (K-30829, Orenburg region), T-12 (K-30990, Orenburg region), Lun’ (K-31101, Penza region), Vityaz (Samara region) — by the value of the indicator “weight thousand grain” above 40 g, recommended as sources for creating breeding material with high values of this criterions. The following varieties are recommended as sources for breeding work to increase the weight of 1000 grains, productive bushiness and plant productivity in the Middle Volga region: Veles (K-30982, Belgorod region), Volgar (K-29831, Samara region), Orlan (Samara region), Omsky 90 (K-30721, Omsk region) and Sasha (K-31110, Omsk region), Charivny (K-31063, Ukraine), KWS Tessa (Germany), AC 06/659/48/2 (Denmark), local (K-9267, Turkey).

Aim. The aim of the study is to create a selection material of oilseed flax with high cold resistance by hybridization. Methods. To achieve this goal, the following methods were used: simple (single and reciprocal) and complex (backcross, triple, four- and five-component step) crossing. Promising plants for cold tolerance donors were involved in the selection process. Creations of crossbreeding combinations were created on the basis of hypotheses of multiple gene action and heterosis. Results. The results of the study are the creation of hybrids of oilseed flax with high cold resistance. Conclusions. It was found that paired crosses were less effective compared to different types of complex. The formative process of complex crosses contributes to the increase of adaptive signs and properties to hypothermia. The best donor of cold resistance was the Sideral variety. Key words: flax, cold resistance, hybridization, simple crosses, complex crosses.

The productivity of agricultural crops is the most variable and integral indicator of their vital activity, which accumulates their genetic potential, soil fertility, weather conditions and components of agricultural technology. Soybean under optimal growing conditions (the reaction of the soil is close to neutral, sufficient phosphorus and potassium nutrition, the use of nitraginization) assimilates from the air about 70 % of the total nitrogen requirement. Therefore, it is believed that it is enough to apply only a starting dose of nitrogen fertilizers (20–40 kg/ha a. s.), to get a high yield with good indicators of grain quality. The results of studies of the influence of long-term (8 years) application of different doses and ratios of fertilizers in field crop rotation on podzolized chernozem in the conditions of the Right -Bank Forest-Steppe of Ukraine on the yield and quality of soybean seeds preceded by spring barley were presented. It was found that crop yields could be increased by 18–77 % owing to different doses, ratios and types of fertilizers. The highest indicators of seed yields for three years of the research (3,02 t/ha) were obtained under the application of mineral fertilizers at a dose of N110P60K80 per 1 ha of crop rotation area, including under soybean – N60P60K60. Exclusion of the nitrogen component from the complete fertilizer (N60P60K60) reduced its yield by 26 %, phosphorus – by 17, and potassium by 11 %. There was no significant decrease in soybean yield in the variant of the experiment with a decrease in the proportion of potassium in the composition of complete mineral fertilizer (N60P60K30) for three years of study. The largest mass of 1000 soybean seeds was formed at doses of N60К60 fertilizers, and their protein content — under the application of complete mineral fertilizer in doses of N60P60K60 and N60P60K30.

Improvement of dendrochronological crops yield reconstruction by separate application of earlywood and latewood width chronologies succeeded in rain-fed semiarid region. (1) Background: Tree-ring width chronologies have been successfully applied for crops yield reconstruction models. We propose application of separated earlywood and latewood width chronologies as possible predictors improving the fitness of reconstruction models. (2) Methods: The generalized yield series of main crops (spring wheat, spring barley, oats) were investigated in rain-fed and irrigated areas in semiarid steppes of South Siberia. Chronologies of earlywood, latewood, and total ring width of Siberian larch (Larix sibirica Ledeb.) growing in forest-steppe in the middle of the study area were tested as predictors of yield reconstruction models. (3) Results: In the rain-fed territory, separation of earlywood and latewood allowed increasing variation of yield explained by reconstruction model from 17.4 to 20.5%, whereas total climatic-driven component of variation was 41.5%. However, both tree-ring based models explained only 7.7% of yield variation in the irrigated territory (climate inclusion increased it to 34.8%). Low temperature sensitivity of larch growth was the main limitation of the model. A 240-year (1780–2019) history of crop failures and yield variation dynamics were estimated from the actual data and the best reconstruction model. (4) Conclusions: Presently in the study region, breeding of the environment-resistant crops varieties compensates the increase of temperature in the yield dynamics, preventing severe harvest losses. Tree-ring based reconstructions may help to understand and forecast response of the crops to the climatic variability, and also the probability of crop failures, particularly in the rain-fed territories.

The article analyzes the current state and improvement of elements of the technology of growing valuable forage and food crops, spring barley in Ukraine. It is noted that in recent years the area under large crops and the yield of this crop have decreased significantly. It is emphasized that further improvement of technologies should be focused on the transition to more use of biological agents to increase yields. Researchers have shown that the effectiveness of the use of humid preparations GK-6M, GK-4MK, GK-MK - on crops of spring barley Dokuchaivsky 15, due to foliar feeding of plants in the tiller ring phase. The main justification of the article is the results of field research conducted in 2015–2019. Maximum indicators, namely: increase in leaf area by 46–38 %, stem height by 8,3 cm; the number of grains in the ear – 4,8 pieces; ear lengths – 1,9 cm; mass of grain in the ear – 0,33 g; masses of 1000 grains – at 12,0 %; nature of grain – 34,9 g – was obtained by treating plants with humid preparation GK-6M. Foliar feeding of plants in the tiller ring phase with the studied drugs provided the largest increase in the yield of spring barley grain – 1,08 t/ha, provided the use of growth stimulant GK-6M. A slightly smaller effect of foliar fertilization of plants on the yield of spring barley was observed from the growth stimulator GK-4MK – the increase in grain yield was 0,83 t/ha and from the growth stimulant GK-MK – the increase in grain yield – 0,66 t/ha. The obtained increments are significant, mathematically proven. Further improvement of agrotechnologies due to wider use of biological means of increase of productivity and quality of production is offered. Keywords: spring barley, plant growth stimulants, foliar feeding, yield.

On the example of the territory of the Altai Krai, the article traces the consequences of destruction of the natural landscapes structure, the creation of artificial elements of their ecological framework of agricultural landscapes, which currently needs restoration and optimization. The thesis is substantiated that the ecological frame of the Altai Krai territory should be as close as possible to the structure of its natural landscapes, which will ensure the productivity of farmland. The most important elements of the ecological framework of forest-steppe and especially steppe landscapes are forest belts, for the creation of which it is necessary to use elements of a water-erosion network, tree species that form a zonal type of vegetation. Creating a system of protective forest plantations in combination with ponds and terrace embankments can increase crop yields up to 25-50 centners per hectare. Landscape planning can serve as a tool for creating an ecological framework for a territory.

Based on comprehensive environmental monitoring, geobotanical, zoogeographical, landscape-ecological, hydro-ecological, forest-typological, agroecological principles and approaches and own field research it is proposed to create a national nature park (NNP) «Central Podillya» within Vinnytsia region. A promising NNP is planned to be created on the territory of Vinnytsia and Khmilnytsky administrative districts of Vinnytsia region as a habitat and migration routes of bison (Bison bonasus) and preservation of unique biotic and landscape diversity. The projected area of NPP «Central Podillya» is 53 820 hectares. The need to create a park due to the presence of natural (forest, wetland, peat-swamp, floodplain, meadow, forest-steppe, meadow-steppe, steppe, weed-field) complexes with associations of plant groups, where more than 40 species of plants and lives more than 50 species of animals listed in the RBU, as well as the presence of a significant number of objects that have historical, cultural, recreational, health (medical) value. The general ecological and geographical characteristics of the park from the standpoint of physical-geographical and geobotanical zoning are given. There are 34 objects of the nature reserve fund (NRF), which will be a part of the perspective park. Functional zoning of the territory of the projected NNP «Central Podillya» was carried out taking into account representative and rare ecosystems, where its 4 zones (protected, regulated recreation, stationary recreation, economic) were allocated. The structural elements of the ecological network of the perspective park are singled out. The necessity of protection, preservation and reproduction of biotic and landscape diversity and historical and cultural heritage of the studied territory through the greening of economic activity, education and culture of the local population is substantiated. It was found that the creation of NPP «Central Podillya» through the Presidential Decree and the optimization of protected areas, which account for 2.27% of the total area of Vinnytsia region, the implementation of regional ecological and Emerald networks is an extremely important, important and absolutely necessary for effective adjustment of the strategy of balanced development of territorial communities. Creation of NPP «Central Podillya» will increase the percentage of protected areas to 4.5% of the total area of Vinnytsia region. According to this indicator Vinnytsia region is in one of the last places in Ukraine. According to the Institute of World Resources (Washington), for the effective functioning of the territory, the area of its reserves should be at least 10–12%. Preparation of scientific substantiation and project of creation of NPP «Central Podillya» within Vinnytsia region is a pilot project that requires official detailing, delimitation, land management, coordination with land users on which the park will be located, creation of park directorate, introduction of technologies aimed at preservation and restoration of biogeocenotic cover, reproduction of broken types of connections, preservation of settlements, optimization of land use, balanced development of territorial communities that will be a part of the NNP.
