In Poland, the statistics on the number of people diagnosed with cancer reveal an increase in the enormity of the problem. In consequence, these include an increase in the number of people taking care of cancer patients at homes. There are currently no available Polish version questionnaire, which allows the assessment of the quality of life for home caregivers. English-language questionnaire examining the quality of life of cancer patients’ caregivers has been developed by the team supervised by M.A.Weitzner and has been widely used since 1999. It contains 35 questions, which are aimed at assessing the level of functioning on four levels: mental, emotional, spiritual and financial. The validation of this questionnaire fulfils the guidelines of translation and validation for the questionnaires, which are deterrmined in a document about the process of translation and adaptation of the instruments of the World Health Organization. Cultural adaptation was an indispensable element for validation, which has met four criteria: allegiance to the translation of the questionnaire into Polish language, the criterion of functional equivalence, the principle of the facade equivalence and the criterion of accuracy reconstruction. The main goal of therapeutic teams in the palliative care is continuous enhancement of their patients and families life quality, including home environments. Both the Polish validation and the application of the questionnaire assessing the life quality of the cancer patients’ caregivers will make it possible to focus on the issues and needs of that population better. The scale may become a useful research tool for evaluation and prevention of the burnout syndrome experienced among family members providing care for cancer patients. Polish version of the CQOL-C questionnaire has met all the validation criteria and can be applied by the therapeutic teams in the palliative care.

Objectives. Cancer cachexia (CCA) is an intractable and ineffective metabolic syndrome that attacks 50–80% of cancer patients. It reduces patient’s life quality, affects the efficacy of treatment, and then increases their mortality; however, there are no established therapeutic strategies for CCA in the world. In this study, we assess the positive and negative effects of cannabinoid in the treatment of CCA. Methods. We searched the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) in The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and PubMed up to December 2017. Results. Of the 256 screened studies, three studies with a total of 592 participants were included. Compared with placebo, cannabinoid increased the appetite (MD 0.27, 95% CI -0.51 to 1.04; n= 3) but failed to improve the overall quality of life (QOL; MD -12.39, 95% CI [-24.21 to -0.57; n = 2), and a total of 441 patients had 607 adverse events (AEs; 496 in the cannabinoid group and 111 in the placebo group). Conclusions. Our analysis showed cannabinoid is effective in increasing appetite in cancer patients. However, it declines the quality of life, which may be due to the side effects of cannabinoid.

Breast cancer is a health problem since so many years ago especially to women. In 2013, Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) showed that the number of national breast cancer prevalence was the second most numerous patients in the world especially attacked women in Indonesia. The common problems experienced by breast cancers patients is the decrease of life quality of the patients. The purpose of this research was to identify factors related to the life quality of the breast cancers patients in Bandung city. This research used cross sectional method. The determination of life quality based on Quality of Life Cancer Survivor Version (QOL-CSV). Accidental sampling was used to choose samples. This research was taken place in four rumah singgah (shelters) of breast cancer located in Bandung city. There were 30 women involved in this study. Inclusive criterion in this research was the patients of breast cancers who are undergoing medications such as surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy, who are willing to be the respondents voluntary. Result of normality test included age factor, marital age and firts time pregnance. Multivariate test used in this research was the linear regression analysis. Based on the result of bivariate analysis, age factor and frequency of pregnancy had positive correlated (p<0.05) to the life quality of breast cancer patients, while menarche had a negative correlated. Regression linear result was determined to life quality factor (p<0,05) including age factor, marital age and  pathology anatomy result. Half of the result of coefficient correlation showed a strong relationship in the quality of life of breast cancer patients. This Research showed that some of the reproduction factors related to the quality of life. Some factors are contributed to the quality of life of breast cancer patients such as age of the patient, marital age and result of pathology anatomy (cancer stage). This research needs more in-depths studies toward the quality of life of breast cancers patients as well as efforts of intervention to increase the quality of life of breast cancers patients. Keywords: breast cancer, quality of life, reproductive factors

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world and is one of the biggest causes of cancer deaths every year. Measurement of the quality of life in breast cancer patients could improve treatment and become a prognosic factor along with medical parameters for the patients. This study aims to measure the life quality of breast cancer patients and observe how it affects the life quality based on patient characteristics. The study was conducted on 93 breast cancer patients. Data were collected form patients in several breast cancer comunities in Denpasar which were carried outh within 3 months (January – March 2019). This study used a cross sectional design using a snowball sampling technique involving breast cancer patients in several cancer communities in Denpasar. The patient's life quality data was obtained using the EuroQol-5 Dimension-5 Level (EQ-5D-5L) generic instrument and conversion to health utility (utility) used the Indonesian value set. The entire data was analyzed using the independent t-test and multivariate regression. The results showed that pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression were the most dominant problem in breast cancer patients (82,7%). The utility value of breast cancer patients was 0.821±0.123 and the VAS value was 74.41±11.67. There was a significant difference in utility value based on patient characteristics of occupation (p=0.035), symptoms (p=0,003), and cancer stadium (p=0.015). Affected 20.5% of the quality of life of breast cancer patients in Denpasar city.

Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor inhibitors (EGFRi) are approved as therapeutic options in several solid tumors. Cutaneous papulopustular eruption is the most frequent cutaneous adverse-event (AE), usually treated with emollient or corticosteroids according to toxicity grade. Our study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a topical product containing polydatin, a glycosylated polyphenol, natural precursor of resveratrol showing anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities, for the prevention and treatment of skin papulopustular rash in EGFRi-treated patients. Forty oncologic patients treated with EGFRi were enrolled in two groups: group-A, 20 patients with papulopustular AE, and group-B, 20 patients without cutaneous manifestations. The study consisted of twice-daily application of polydatin cream 1.5% (group-A) and 0.8% (group-B) for 6 months. In group-A patients, we observed at week 4 a remarkable improvement of skin manifestation and quality of life evaluated with National-Cancer-Institute-Common-Terminology-Criteria for Adverse-Events (NCI-CTCAE), Dermatology-Life-Quality-Index (DLQI) score and Visual-Analogue-Scale (VAS) pruritus, with a statistical significance of p < 0.05. None of the patients of group-B developed skin AEs to EGFRi. No cutaneous AEs related to the polydatin product were reported in both groups. Polydatin can be a good topical aid for the prevention and management of papulopustular rash in cancer patients receiving EGFRi, also capable of improving cancer patients’ quality of life.

Anemia is a common hematological complication in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Reduction of hemoglobin level is accompanied by a significant deterioration in the patients’ life quality. A transfusion of erythrocyte mass is used to rapidly increase the hemoglobin level in case of development of a symptomatic anemia. However, a large range of risks limit the wide use of blood transfusions. Erythropoiesis-stimulating proteins are the drugs that reduce the need for blood transfusions. Treatment with erythropoietins provides a smooth and prolonged rise in the hemoglobin level, the release of fully functional red blood cells into the blood. The use of erythropoietins can significantly improve the quality of life of cancer patients without reducing the effectiveness of chemotherapy.
